    IMPORTANT NOTES - READ THIS! 23/12/18 Release note: This has been updated to (version 002) and now uses the stMaps directly from the lenses for a 100% pixel to pixel match of the real lenses. The pack includes ALL anamorphic prime lenses + a bonus two zoom anamorphics. These zooms don't have a focal length in the lens file, only distortion, so you will need to type in the focal length you want in the camera settings. It's very important that you place the "Lenses" folder in the "Content" folder and nowhere else, otherwise the links in the files to the stMaps will be unlinked due to another file path and the distortion won't work. Please read the important notes on the Gumroad page. Thanks.

    • @ArthurBaum
      @ArthurBaum 5 месяцев назад +2

      Sorry, I just don't understand the procedure here. The folder I've downloaded from Gumroad is called: Tiedtke_RealCinemaLenses_v002. I've put that folder into the content folder but neither the focal lengths nor the distortion works properly.

    • @ProjektZeitsand
      @ProjektZeitsand 4 месяца назад +3

      @tiedtkeio I have the same issue, the distortion doesn't work anymore. I checked the paths for the stmap files and it is still linked. If I switch to parameter mode and enter some numbers, the distortion works. Could you put up the old version with parameters to download? Or any idea how to fix this? The textures are imported as 32bit Highres and not as Normal maps? Is that correct? Also some have very high resolutions, some have not. Any thoughts?

      Does the file path need to be exact for the Lenses folder, or can the lens assets be anywhere as long as they're in the Content folder?

    unreal 5.4, cameraComponant Film Back Super 35mm Crop 2.39, Squeeze Factor 2.
    Then Lens component using lens file (Panavision_G_series_2x_40mm), use camera settings and apply distortstion I see the effect but notice the camera compoant says the focal leng is 20.140045
    is this correct?

  • @akadolypse

    Thank you so much, but I don't seem to get the lens profiles to work properly. They distort the image, but they don't seem to give me the correct focal length. 75mm Panavision equals to 41,95mm in the Camera settings, which is so confusing to me. I did everything exactly as you said in the video.
    _Create CameraActor
    _Set Filmback to Super 35mm or as you said in the video to 27.99mm x 19.22mm
    _Squeeze Factor to 2.0
    _Set Crop Settings to 2.39
    _Add LensComponent
    _Set Lens File Panavision_AutoPanatar_2x_75mm
    _Set Evaluation Mode to "Use Camera Settings"
    -> This is where the camera changes automatically to a different focal length, in my case to ~42mm.
    _Tick "Apply Distortion"
    What am I missing? I'm using UE 5.3.2

    Hey there,
    I just found out about this, and it seems you launched that v002 yesterday? Might there be a chance that there are still some bugs in there? I'm eager to try this out, yet, I don't see any distortion happening. Panavision_C_Series_40mm looks exactly the same as Atlas_Orion_2x_40mm for example. I've enabled the grid overlays in the cinematic viewport and I can see that everything still looks very straight and linear. I've truly set this up 3 times, step by step. Any chance that v001 is still available somewhere? This is exacly what I'm looking for and it could help sooo much with the current project I'm doing.
    Thank you for the incredible work and hopefully you get a chance to look into this (and maybe temporarily re-release that v001!

    • @tiedtkeio
      @tiedtkeio  9 месяцев назад

      Hi there! I've just checked and confirmed that everything is setup correct and working. What I probably only touched upon briefly in the video is that the sensor settings are important, as the grids were shot on a S35 4:3 sensor with de-squeeze in post. So having a small/larger sensor (MFT, LF, 65mm) won't show the correct distortion. Try enable the plugins "Camera Calibration" and "OpenCV Lens Distortion", change to a S35 filmback, squeeze to 2x (if it's a 2x lens) and crop settings to 2,39. ☺

      And of course check that the checkbox for distortion is enabled in the lens file added to the camera actor. Should be on by default, but might not for some reason.

    • @samgielen

      I've checked those steps. Yet without result. All lens files have a 'SphericalLensModel' as lens model, instead of the 'AnamorphicLensModel' and all Distortion Parameters are N/A. That doesn't seem right, right? Or am I not seeing something that these parameters need to be read from somewhere else?@@tiedtkeio

      1. Import the "Lenses" folder to the Content Browser through Windows Explorer.

      3. Create a Cine Camera.

      5. In the camera settings change "Squeeze Factor" to 2,0.
      6. In the camera settings change "Filmback" to Super 35mm.
      7. Up at the CineCameraActor in details panel click +Add and add an lens.
      8. In the lens change to any lens, such as the 25mm Elite MK4.
      9. Underneath change "Evaluation Mode" to Use Camera Settings.
      10. Click the "Apply Distortion" in details panel. I've tried this combination in lots of different ways now and different engine versions and every time I get the correct distortion from the lenses.

    Please, could you tell me if it is possible to make an Alexa 35 camera, an Alexa 65 camera, or will your new package be required for this? For example, I want to make a different version of your Alexa 35 camera (Alexa 65), I will change the width and height in mm as in Alexa 65, and apply your distortion maps, will this lead to problems? will it look the same as in a real Alexa 65 camera? If this is not the case, could you add a preset for the Alexa 65 camera. Your work is amazing, it's the first time I've seen lenses work so well in unreal, it's incredible

    • @tiedtkeio
      @tiedtkeio  11 месяцев назад +1

      Hi Kirill! Yes, you are correct! If you change the sensor size in the Unreal Engine camera to match the Alexa65 sensor size it will look exactly the same as it would in real life. However these lenses (both in real life and in UE5) are made to have the FOV according to the S35 sensor/film size standard. That means one of "my" 50mm anamorphic lenses will be more zoomed out on a Alexa65 sensor. In real life they would have a vignette as the optics wouldn't match the sensor size, but they will work in UE5. You would have to keep this in mind. A 50mm lens on a Alexa65 doesn't look the same as a 50mm on a Alexa35 FOV wise.

      There's no quality loss where the distortion occurs, however it is worth noting that this is a permanent look for the image and when you render you cannot undo the distortion. Just like in real life, once the anamorphic glass has distorted the light in the optics and recorded the image on the film the look cannot be undone. 🙂
