I do prefer the SNES versions, but GBA DKC3 will always, ALWAYS, have a special place in my heart. It was the first donkey kong country game I ever owned as a kid. I’d sit in my grandparents’ rocking chair and kept playing the first level of Lake Orangutan over and over until I had 99 Bear Coins, bought that shell, chocolate, and mirror from that bear, then get back to 99 coins.
I'm only first level in but music seems crappy compared to snes, and graphics seems worse and better at the same time some how. 😂 never played this version but I love the snes version.
One thing I really like in this version is that they added an additional world in the giant lake next to K3. Idk it just felt like a wasted opportunity in the SNES version, I'm glad they made use of it here!
I totally agree, I think some of the levels would have really benefited from the enhanced graphics on the SNES! Maybe we get HD remakes of these games in a few years with all the additional content from the GBA games. Just let me dream and hope..
this port was so weird. The Happy Music in Ripsaw Rage, clipping through the ground at random if you swap kongs on cliff levels, all the weird minigames, a complete new soundtrack.
okay so there are several tracks on this game that I can't get with. it doesn't make sense that I sound like I'm enjoying fun at the beach when I'm in treetops running from a giant saw. However, I do enjoy the remixed aquatic ambiance. Great job on the TAS. I think I played this game a little, but was turned off when I heard the music and stopped playing it lol. The SNES soundtrack was definitely better, though much darker.
@bessux1995 maybe you don't understand what I mean by darker. So by darker I mean utilizing minor keys throughout various portions of the song or soundtrack. Doorstop dash songs like a minor key song, thus is a darker song. Not sure what you're going for here. In the end, my opinion is that the SNES has a darker musical signature than that of the gba version, and that is why I prefer it over the latter.
I love how you gave Candy Kong to the Kremlings XD The controls in those Funky minigames are JANKY AF, maybe even worse than those go-karts I did on Hatteras Island last year. This game, to me, has always been the worst in the GBA trilogy as it feels just so LAZY
Came here for the soundtrack that im more familiar with Edit: i literally just noticed that the zingers are not authentic, they are actually robots O_O
Makes sense: Their Queen got curbstomped in the first game and their King got Mufasa'd in the second. They basically have no means of organization anymore without the Kremlings' hold on their deceased monarchs.
I don't get it. It can't be because of copyright, so why didn't they use any of the music from the original game? Was it a budget thing? Still kinda hard to believe.
According to some comparison-videos, the original SNES soundtrack would have sounded very badly ported to the GBA, which would have ruined it. So they asked David Wise to compose new music instead.
ASKING YOU SOMETHING: How does a Tas work? Is it like playing every level ten times and afterwards the best run is saved into the program or editing parts together so they work like one run? or is it something completly different?
Hey! You are close, but it works a little bit different. Let me try to explain: A TAS is basically nothing else but a text document that lists the inputs given for every single frame. You open the game on an emulator and freeze the game, so that it doesn't advance on it's own. You can then use a function called "Frame Advance" to progress forward frame by frame, and give the proper inputs for them. You make savestates along the way, to be able to try different methods/tricks/ways and therefore see which one is the fastest. All this information is saved in, as mentioned, some kind of movie that draws the inputs from a text document that is saved within. So it's not like you would type in "Frame 1: A+B" or something, that happens automatically. You just tell the emulator to record your inputs, and then you watch what you have recorded by replaying it. That is what this video does. It shows the inputs I have recorded while going through the game frame by frame, using savestates to work out the fastest way I could find. I hope that explains it well enough. :)
As far as I know that barrel and the coins are exclusive to GBA. Also the way of teamthrowing used to reach the barrel is only possible in this version. By pressing 'Up' when Kiddy is about to be thrown, it will result in a combination of a normal throw to the front and a throw upwards, covering both height and distance. :)
It is, indeed. The physics are entirely different, there is a completely new world with 6 levels to play and the glitches in this game also have their impact. Not so much in 103% however, the any% run shows that better. There is also a TAS of that, if you're interested.
That comes down to personal preference, I guess. I've ran both versions and both gave me a lot of fun. I would say for 103% I prefer SNES, but GBA has the more interesting any% run. That's of course just my own opinion. :)
