I'm a Canadian living in Australia. I have lived in the U.K. and the United States. I have also travelled to other countries. What I can say is nobody does pomp and circumstance like the British. Nobody. They bring an enthusiasm and retrained energy, in both the military and the public, to to events of patriotism.

@HankD13 While I agree with a lot of what you said, we decided to end slavery in the British Empire and that is what we did, unilaterally, but it was only later that the British state got seriously involved in ending slavery wherever they encountered it. British Slavery "ended" in 1807 but took over 30 more years to effectively end in the British Overseas Colonies and then only because we compensated the slave owners. On the other hand, David Livingston was still combatting slavery in Africa when he died in 1873. BTW I used to love films about the Alamo, until I discovered that the Texian defenders wanted Texas to be a slave state, whereas Mexico began to end slavery in 1821 and finally did so by 1831. So it is not quite accurate to suggest that Britain was in some way unique.

I was raised about 100 yards away from Edgar's birthplace in Upper Broadheath, Worcester, and that song, often derided by republicans as being about all the bad things of our imperial past couldn't be further from the truth.
It's not about conquest and supremacy, it's literally about Hope, and the UK being a source for hope and triumph over adversity for the whole world to share.
Nimrod (by Elgar) never fails to bring a tear too. It captures the essence of loss... and restoration of hope.

The Promenade Concerts have been going on for over a hundred years. Every summer for eight weeks - during July to September - top orchestras, conductors and performers from around the world are invited to London to play at London's Royal Albert Hall. Classic music, jazz, blues all types of music are played. At the end of the Summer Concert Season each year we finish with 'The Last Night of the Proms'. They play British Patriotic, music.
These concerts are heard, live, in many countries around the world, via our national broadcaster, the BBC. They are also broadcast Nationally here around the UK. People from many countries come to party with us. They bring their own national flags to wave and they sing the words, just as loudly, along with us. We love that they do. Until lock down the BBC used to arrange for the Last Night of the Proms to be relayed to parks all around the UK so people could gather and sing along too. I don't know if they still do. You saw the immense crowd outside in Hyde Park, London in this video. Usually there are crowds in Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Salford in the North of England. It's a very happy event.
Other performances you might like are: 'The Last Night of the Proms 2009: Rule Britannia' and 'The Last Night of the Proms 2012: Jerusalem (which you reacted to yesterday I think) and God Save the Queen' . Jerusalem will sound a little different - definitely no paintings this time - and you will hear our UK National Anthem 'God Save the Queen' ( though now, since our beloved Queen's death, new concerts will sing 'God Save The King' . Thank you for this lovely reaction. Love from the UK

First time seeing your channel. And what a lovely reaction! And what a truly LOVELY girl! You just won a new subscriber - thank you! And it is a single piece of music, Elgar's "Pomp and Circumstance March no.1 with lyrics added by Arthur Benson. OK, the words may not all have aged well, but this piece - and "Jerusalem" and "I vow to thee my country" must be pretty well the three most powerful pieces of music in the English language? I was going to suggest you looked at "Jerusalem", but then I saw you already have. That said, I think Elgar's orchestration version - always for me the highlight of the "Last Night" - is a more moving version.

Most of the concerts are held at the Royal Albert Hall which is the large round building in the video. Most concerts are classical played by orchestras from around the world

The 'Proms' (short for promenades or walks) are a series of music concerts that takes place during the summer primarily in London but also in other cities occasionally, and ends in September with a very traditional evening called the Last Night, always Based in the Albert hall in London, but T THE SAME TIME, many other cities take part with huge open air concerts - which proves it doesn't always rain in the UK - which winds up the series for another year.

By Freedom gained, by Truth maintained
    Thine Empire shall be strong
Thy fame is ancient as the days
    As Ocean large and wide:
A pride that dares, and heeds not praise
    A stern and silent pride
Not that false joy that dreams content
    With what our sires have won;
The blood a hero sire hath spent
    Still nerves a hero son

When those words were written well over 100 years ago they really meant something, Britain was indeed mighty and a land of hope and glory, respected throughout the world, but when a true Brit looks at the state of the country today thay are a mockery, and almost enough to make him cry. The Uniparty has succeeded where the Nazi party failed, and brought Britain to its knees. The Tory half of the Uniparty will be made to pay in a couple of days time, the day of reckoning for the Labour half is yet to come, but it will come, they wont get away with it. Vote Reform!
