I am a 78 yo Dutchman and since my youth I am looking at the last night of the proms, a series of prom(enade) concerts in the summer in the Royal Albert Hall. This last night is special, because the music is partly the same each year, national songs for ages known to every Brit! It is a festival of being British together, not only in the Hall, but also in Hyde Park thousends of people unite to sing along!

I'm not sure, not convinced that 'offending' people is some terrible thing, some harmful danger that people ought to be protected from... And I'd say it's more accurate to describe what Carlin does as 'confronting' us rather than 'offending'... And many of us need to be confronted with some different ideas, fact, points of view... Offence is taken, not given. Getting upset about being offended is, in my opinion, a weak, lazy and self-indulgent luxury that should be ridiculed and laughed at, not used as an excuse to stifle and silence discussion of things we'd rather not hear about or deal with.
