Hi Matt. What an excellent choice of subject for a mini series!
I'm a little conflicted on this one. The class 37 is by far my favourite diesel loco, both in real life and model form. The sound of that lazy 4 stroke engine is just, well, iconic. But then you also have my 2nd favourite, the class 55 which, as someone once said, "Is the diesel all other locos call sir". But to my great surprise, on this day, listening to these locos on your layout, I'm going to vote for the Cavalex Class 56. The sound seemed so rich and full: almost audiophile standard.

Hi Matt theyre all excellent mate, what a thing to try and choose the best one. I suppose if i had to choose it would be the class 37 followed very closely by the 66. Cheers Andy

Ooooh tough one that….. I’m very biased towards the Accurascale class37 as 37s are my favourite locos.
But……& it’s a big but! The Cavalex 56 straight out of the box is absolutely superb👍
Cavalex have nailed it for me!

All loco’s will have a different sound due to the type of engine used.
In model form I have to say the Cavalex class 56 gets my vote.
Good bass, clear sound & no distortion at higher volumes.

I’ve commented on the class 37 before and still think it ranks #1. I like it’s throaty rumble. I have to say the Deltic sounded pretty good, too! Not sure if it’s a fair vote from me, living in Canada.😂

First hand experience with these models, my opinion.
    1. Cavalex Class 56 (loud, solid and crisp straight out of the box...they nailed it!)
    2. Accurascale Class 55 (yes pretty good and near perfect to be honest thus a very close second)
    3. Accurascale Class 37 (best 37 sound in the market but not without issues, I had to replace my 4ohm with 8ohm speakers due to crackling and distortion which was supported by Accurascale)
    4. Hattons Class 66 (very good but sounds too deep to be better than the others)

The class 56 for me but I also think the 66 sounds great too

Hi Matt, mmm a great idea for a video. Out of the locos you showed us, I think it has to be the Class 55. It sounds great at low speeds and still sounds great at high speeds too. Some get very annoying at high speed but I don't think that one does. However you didn't have a Suttons Locoworks Class 24, which for me is even better! Thanks and all the best Dave.

A good video here Matt, funnily enough I have just managed to pick up my first sound decoder, even though it is second hand I have managed to get hold of the factory sound decoder that bachmann put into their Class 158 DMUs, definitely like the cavalex 56 sound and currently have on order 2 of the decoders that they are releasing for them, overall favourite for me is a bit difficult, to me they all sound pretty good, the 56s as I have said I have those on order, the Deltic one is quite nice, for the 37 I will be looking to fit sound to my new bachmann one at some point and wouldn’t mind fitting a sound decoder to either my bachmann or a hattons 66, overall good video here and I look forward to hearing the steam locos in t( next part of this series.

Very difficult indeed to choose the best sound fitted diesel locomotive and my decision is the class 37.
