I think my favorite part of this fight is that it breaks JRPG archetype of benched characters never getting screen time. Even games that try to mitigate this like Persona where benched characters still get EXP so they never fall behind and you can swap them in at any time if you need it still feels like you're only ever at half strength. What's the point of having 8 playable characters when only 4 are ever on screen at the same time? But in Octopath, it feels like a FULL, 100% team effort. One half of the team is fighting the battle downstairs, which is equally just as important as the one being fought upstairs. All 8 are fighting together, and instead being *told*, you *see* it in an actual fight you control, not just a cutscene. And God help you if you neglected any of your party members, and God is dead except the one you're fighting so you're SOL.
Ah, a fellow Alpharad enjoyer, I see. For those unsure of the joke, when Alpharad obtained a ground type in a randomizer, this was playing in the background.

It does have meaning. You found the final challenge and earned the ultimate battle after a grueling endurance round of fights you couldn't save between. This is your reward for having played well. You don't need a narrative to define your gameplay experience do you?
@@ilan8468 Well... actually it is not. It is meant to resemble Latin, and some words are indeed latin words, but most of it is gibberish and the lyrics do not have real meaning. But it's still one of the best final boss themes ever.
Personally, this is the theme I would use for Grogar. The reason being, he's known as the Father of Monsters and gave life to the foulest of creatures to run wild and let them take what they want and destroy everything else. And if I'm not wrong, one of the foulest creatures he gave life to was Chrysalis, which would make her his daughter. Therefore, the theme, Daughter of the Dark God, would fit him. Edit: Part of this was a delusional statement I made before looking up who would really be Grogar's daughter. I won't pretend it didn't make me stupid.
@@kylestubbs8867 Sounds pretty cool and interesting, in my opinion. It is a disappointment that Grogar was some cheap imitation in MLP Season 9, as opposed to the real Grogar.
@@ash8244 it depends. It needs to be subtle. One Winged Angel is an example of vocals done right. The final boss fight of Trails in the sky SC is another. The music in the Shantae games is an example of it being done very, very wrong. That song that plays during the first stage of Half Genie Hero is about as cringe as it gets.

The sequel takes another step further for the final phase and starts playing like the mobile game
@@Antasma1 Having 8 characters fixes so many issues with the battle system. I don't know why they don't just make it the default.

It's not actually latin, these are just their atemps at transcribing the lyrics. in actuality they're mostly nonsense
People on reddit have at least partially transcribed it (properly) and translated it. The lyrics are relevant to the game.
