These are Great Cars!!!! Ford really screwed up big time getting rid of the Lincoln Town Car and the Crown Vic. I know they did away with the Mercury brand, but they should have kept the Town Car and Crown Vic. If Ford kept them, and kept improving them, I think they would still have great sales. Taxi's, Uber's and traditional American's would still buy them. I know everyone wants trucks, but a Town Car just has so much more style and class then a F-150 at a funeral or wedding. The Panther platform is the last of it's kind. It was the one advantage Ford had over GM. GM went unibody, Front Wheel Drive with their troubled Northstar V8's, but Ford was smart they kept the tradition of a big solid, body on frame , simple V8 that rides so good, reliable, and was relatively easy to work on. Lincoln right now has nothing that compares to the Town Car. I am not impressed with the new Lincoln Continental at all. Sorry Ford you screwed up big time, getting rid of these. I miss these cars.

But anyways they were still using Ford Crown Vics with the 4.6L V8, they all had over 500k miles and still going. The taxi company was trying to get something more modern and bought 10 Toyota Camry's but they didn't last a year. Keep in mind taxis go through pure hell; gear shifter goes from Drive to Park a 100x a day, the back doors (mainly the right rear one) opens and closes a 100x a day, mostly in town driving, tons of idling, during busy seasons (the holidays) they tend to miss their scheduled oil changes, etc. I drove a wrecker many years before that; I saw many high mileage American (Domestic) cars. The fact is that high mileage Foreign (Import) cars tend to get more publicity then the American cars do.

I've owned alot of vehicles in 45 years of driving. My 2001 Grand Marquis is definately the most reliable I have ever owned. Theres alot of good runners out there, but for people who always speak out the sides of their mouth about Fords..you have no clue. A young man I work with at a repair shop is always saying he will never own a Ford. He drives gm and even a toyota and he spends more time asking for a ride than he does driving his own vehicles. lol

Ford never had a 4.6 liter v6 in their trucks or vans. It was a v8.

My grandfather had a Mercury Grand Marquis. He wouldn’t get the Lincoln cause he thought it was too fancy, LOL. I remember riding in his car, it was so smooth. For a while I owned a ‘80 Thunderbird, a two door boat and a half. Very smooth as well and if I pushed the gas pedal to the floor you could almost see the needle moving toward the E. Wish I had kept it around but for some reason I didn’t want to have two cars back then.

Ford is moving to SUV's and Trucks because the cars aren't selling outside of the Mustang. Also the new SUV's still have good reliable and are hard to roll over (Ive driven a 96 explorer for 2 years and I drove it like a Mustang, never came close to tipping once). There is a reason why Police departments are getting Explorers and Expeditions. Good Gas Mileage, Beefy engine that can move when need to and the space to hold detainees and other armaments such as the shotgun.
