Oh I miss having a gas stove! I love how you give options for subs incase you don't have something on hand. Also your voice is so pleasant. I love your recipes and videos! I find you so easy to follow.
We called them Indian Cornbread but ours had kernel corn, chopped onions, chopped green chilies and when we flipped them we put grated cheese on top! Yummy
This looks delicious as does everything you cook. I've been a loyal suscriber for a while, probably a few years. I love your channel. You are warm, inviting, and real. I'm very proud of you for publishing your cookbook! I've had it on my wishlist for a while and plan on buying it with my next paycheck. Much love! ❤
I made these tonight and my sweetheart loved them. So fluffy and delicious, I had some batter leftover so I am finishing them up for breakfast tomorrow. TY for keeping it simple and delicious!
Lol! I was following your video step by step, pausing after each ingredient, then you break out the "just add corn meal to pancake mix" secret. Which was what I was planning to do in the first place!🤣 Having ours with leftover gumbo from yesterday. Wanted something different than cornbread. They were perfect!
I made these today, they are Amazing!!! Especially with the honey butter. I've tried many of your recipes and love them all. Thank you so much for taking the time to share with all. God Bless you and your family.🙂
My grandmother used to make these for us back in the day, I forgot what she used to call them in Spanish but I've always referred to them as sweet cakes. I make them now for my grandkids 😊 I make a savory recipe and add sage for my holiday stuffing mix. So yummy!
I use vegetable oil and a little butter in the pan. I add corn to the batter (or cheese, ham, jalapeños or bacon) .... not a lot, but each change up the flavor and texture. Then a small sprinkle of corn meal or cheese just before you flip over the first time...adds crunch. Serve with maple syrup and more butter.
My mom always made them for dinner. As American Indian and hillbillies, lovingly, we always had round breads. Haha ! Honey for dessert . Funny I can remember that as a toddler. Food binds families together God bless
Thank you for this amazing recipe! I edited the recipe a bit to fit my family. I substituted the sugar and milk for vanilla almond milk and i added a little cinnamon to the honey butter sauce. Perfection!
I'm soo Proud of you... just saw your chicken tamale pie video and got your corn cake recipe from Google... I will be making both... So... whoever was "trolling" you... they should look at your likes... much Love! from Old School Black Mama⚘🌿🧡
Can't wait to make these johnnycakes for an upcoming breakfast! I actually just got your cookbook yesterday after pre-ordering it. They said the package was delayed due to animal interference...lol. Can you believe that! Even the animals in my neighborhood are trying to get a hold of your delicious recipes. AAAAA+++++
Yay! My family and I used to get “corn cakes” from IHOP’s, we loved them but then they took them off the menu years later. I’ve searched online for recipes but they never were the same until NOW! Your recipe tastes and looks just like them. Thank you. P.S. I just received your recipe book, insurance in case I lose all my saved RUclips videos of all your recipes😀. Thanks for sharing your talent.
I love cornmeal pancakes! When I was growing up, we’d always have these after Thanksgiving, with reheated butter and turkey gravy on top. Now my adult son loves those, too.😁 Watching your video has given me a craving for them served with honey butter, though. I may need to do that this weekend for a special breakfast treat. Thanks!👍🏻
We used to eat a lot of these when I was a kid, Mom always put some canned sweet corn in the mix......................oh man they were good, going to have to try this.
Watching this, I can smell my Mom cooking in my memories. ❤️ I am putting these in rotation for my kids! Thanks for the tip with the ready made pancake mix! I have some and wasn’t wanting to make it as is.
I love making 'fried' cornbread. My recipe has a lot of cornmeal, and a little bit flour. I've never eaten them sweet. I make them for beef vegetable soup, beans ... whatever I make baked cornbread for. Fried cornbread and baked cornbread have a different flavor, and both are great in their own special way with food. Mom would sometimes put molasses on her fried/baked cornbread, but I was never intrigued enough to ever try it. - I don't know where Mom came up with her recipe for "Quickie Dogs," but I love them more than I do corn dogs. She did a batter that was half and half cornmeal and flour, and she made the batter thin/runny. Then, when she deep fried the coated hot dog, the batter became super crunchy/crispy, and cooked up much more 'quickly' than a regular battered corn dog.
I grew up with them pretty much like your recipe and we just called it fried corn bread. They were common fair with Chili, beans, and greens. Thanks for this. I'm sure you know you can let the batter sit and get smooth almost pancake like texture from the same batter. When the corn absorbs the milk the crunchy goes away. We do not bake corn bread at all this is what we eat. Thanks for this great recipe.
I think there are a handful of people who just go from video to video giving them a thumbs down! SMH.... Anyway when I make corn muffins or johnny cake I love it with maple syrup so I would love these and have put corn meal on my list so I can make these soon. Thanks again Mama for the inspiration. ❤
My East Texas country grandma made something similar. She was a shaman in the kitchen. I was so young but I must have paid attention. I love to cook now. I have her cast iron skillet. Its over 100 now...
You can't be odder than me! I like tater tots dipped in cottage cheese (and have gotten everyone who says ewwwwww…. to try it and they all like it! LOL)
OMG I just made these and they were perfect. So delicious 😋! Definitely a keeper recipe. Thanks so much for your time in showing/sharing this recipe with us. Hugs from the orange Bay Area. 👍☀️🤗
Woke up to this wonderful video. Super stoked I have everything in my pantry for this...BREAKFAST! Thank you so much for the recipe. My babies love cornbread with honey butter I know the are gonna love these
Yippee! I have wanted this recipe…I have memories of my Mom making these for us kids, always yummy!(sometimes she would add a little leftover canned corn to the batter)…and as usual, kiddo, your voice is always so calming and soothing 🥰
I nearly slobbered all over myself. (That's a compliment). I was craving these and yours is the first recipe I came to. Don't think I need to look any further.
Lawd help me. Many people are unfamiliar with hoecakes or cornbread cakes (like the twist). My mom, from Nawlins, at times, served these with collard greens instead of cornbread. I like the honey butter sauce; it’s very simple & easy to make. Also, syrup would compliment this too. Thanks for sharing...now I’ll have to make them for Sunday’s breakfast 😋😋
I loved pancakes my mom make me pancakes when it's beakfast and it's kinda delicious but your is Soo delicious I'm gonna tell this to my mom to make that recipe
My mother made these on an old iron oven (wood was the fuel for the fire) and poured white gravy over them, sans the sugar. Also great with navy beans and soups
Awestruck here Simply Mamá, amazed at your ability to crack an egg open with your hands and plop it into the mixing bowl, also amazed on how you flip the cornbread cake on its other side in the skillet, lemme see: its, thrust the griddle spatula quickly, lift and turn abruptly,....these man hands just can't master the art of turning stuff over in the skillet! And alas the finished delicacy,...its here I understand my hs friend and buddy, "Taco" Day when he said that beautiful women are "butter and pancakes", FOOD PORN at its best! lol... ;) Uprated, wishing your family and you an IRIE Weekend! :)
At the end when you say “I hope you like it” I always say “I LOVE IT!!” You’re recipes are awesome!! 😋❤️
My grandmother who was my inspiration to become a chef yet to make these with most every well deserved meal. They take me back everytime!!
My mother used to make these the same way for us back in the 1950s when I was a child. They are absolutely delicious.

I didn’t know what to make for supper tonight so I made these Johnnycakes and eggs. Quick and easy and So good! Will be making them again.

I tried your recipe and its awesome. Thats what am eating now. I love it! I used just half cup of flour and half cup of the yellow corn flour. Thanks
In my area of NC, we make hoecakes then put collard greens and chow chow on it and make a collard sandwich. SOOO YUMMY.
We used to eat a lot of these when I was a kid, Mom always put some canned sweet corn in the mix......................oh man they were good, going to have to try this.
