      Amber,
Surely you will join me in admitting that Will Ferrell's overall body of work is not great. He had some good sketches, like this one, but he had a tendency to overact. Case in point, his cameos on NBC's The Office. He ruined an otherwise amazing scene where the Dunder Mifflin gang sings to Michael as he prepared to move to Colorado to be with Holly. I would love to read your input on Ferrell's (over)acting.
I hope all is well with the O'Leary gang. My wife, Elaine Wilson-Carrocia, and I were just talking about you the other day. Our youngest, Connor Wilson-Carrocia, asked Elaine if we could go visit with "Aunt Amber" on his Spring Break. We plan to travel to see Elaine's mother (aka Gamma Pie). She recently moved into a Senior Living Community. Elaine's father (aka Poppy Bear) passed away in May and Gamma Pie sold the farm to a man named Carl Givens. Mr. Givens plans to develop the land into a new neighborhood (Hickory Wood Estates). Elaine is very upset about this. Gamma Pie seems to be taking it ok. Elaine often shares memories of you and her playing around in the barn and chasing the geese around. I just wish my children got to experience more time on the farm. with Poppy Bear and Gamma Pie. Does your mother still make those good apple fritters? Stop by and see Gamma Pie sometime. That would make her day!
      Love and hugs,
Vincent "Vinny" Carrocia and Elaine Wilson-Carrocia
P.S. - We got the kids a new puppy dog for Christmas. It is a little Dachshund named Oliver Sam Wilson-Carrocia. Mandy (who is now 14!) picked out the name. I think it is a character in one of those fictional short stories that she writes for the Literature Club at school. She is also on the Student Council. We are so proud of our little Mandy Wilson-Carrocia.

Michael Nonya: I'm old enough to have watched the original broadcast of season one. Every SNL era has its classics, even the dark years. That makes this a genuine classic is the real reaction from the cast. I suspect that the outfit that Ferrell wore was much more tame in rehearsal and that none of the cast knew that he was going to be wearing that thongy thing live. I enjoy watching them work to maintain their composure and stay in character throughout the skit.

The show has had incredible years, horrible years, great shows and terrible shows, great skits and some really terrible ones.....ALL along the way, since October 1975. Some people who worship the first season with the first cast forget how bad the prehistoric Muppets were....if they remember them at all. The years 1980-1982 were horrible...until Eddie Murphy basically saved the show. The show has had major ups and downs, all along the way. Here's a listing/ranking of all the people who were on the show from 1975 though 2015.....some brilliant, some awful, and some NO ONE remembers, not even their own parents LOL. www.rollingstone.com/tv/tv-lists/saturday-night-live-all-145-cast-members-ranked-146340/?kwp_0=176929&kwp_4=717079&kwp_1=362160

There’s nothing shameless about what ferrel just did. That angle of dangle being inversely proportional to meat heat is wrong. It’s fake news, and it’s misinformation which could get someone killed.
The actual equation is Length times Girth over Angle of the Shaft (aka YAW) divided by mass over width. That’s the correct equation and it has nothing to do with heat of the meat and shaft angle relations.

I've never put much credence in either theory of SNL having bad writers or a lack of onscreen talent. I think SNL can pretty much have their pick of up and coming talent (on-screen or writing) that know a stint on SNL can stamp their ticket to whatever entertainment industry ambitions they have. They also have the gravitas and resources to pull in "hired guns" (like Alec Baldwin, this season, to be Trump) for extra cast "firepower" or dedicated alumni willing to come back for cameos and help out with writing, recruiting talent and so forth. To me, I think the problem is that they assemble the talent and it doesn't always mesh together into a good team. Maybe the writing styles don't match the strengths of the performers or the cast has a lot of people with the same/similar talent strength and it leads to the skits all being similar and keeping any recurring characters from breaking out and getting popular or cast members don't get along, etc. It's a similar dynamic like you see in a sports team that brings in a group of talented players but the team doesn't perform close to as good as the talent indicates it should. The common denominator of seasons considered to be among the all time best are that they have multiple recurring characters and the fans are always looking forward to which ones will be on the show this week and how long until the ones that weren't will return. Any of the "average" sketches that are amusing become funnier when sandwiched between sketches of popular recurring characters.

Actually, Gibert Godfrey is the one who broke the Ice at Hugh Heffner's roast with his God Awful, relentless, balls to the wall, impromptu release upon the public of the Aristocrats joke. Perfectly appropriate for a roast of Hugh Heffner, actually.
And Steven Colbert's Truth to power (the entire Bush administration and everyone else in the room) at the 2006 Whitehouse Press conference was none other that comedic revolution. It was still taboo at that time to question authority, but Colbert didn't just roast them- he incinerated them.
(Don't get me wrong, though, I'm in no way discrediting Will Ferrell's patriotic bulge and ass cheeks. Ricky Bobby & this glorious SNL skit will definitely go down in the anals of history for post 9-11 comedy relief. 😉)
