I can't make this argument, as a fan I love the Saiyan saga it is classic. But the Cell saga had so many more layers and episodes, it isn't fair to compare the two. The characters are also established.

I consider the Saiyan Saga and the Namek Saga inseparable, thus perfect, they are so well connected, and possibly Toriyama's strongest work.

The saiyan saga is better in terms of exploring the dragon ball universe through the introduction of raditz and the reveal that goku is an alien, plus it has arguably one of the best if the not the best fight in the series and that's goku vs vegeta. The only con that kinda debatable is that the secondary characters are not as useful as in the cell saga since most of them have died.
The cell saga is better in terms of character development, especially for piccolo, vegeta, gohan, and trunks, but have the downside with how the main characters are able to end the saga whatever they want but they just don't do it.
My favourite is probably the cell saga, but the overall best is the saiyan saga.

Idk bruh, Saiyan Saga is the last Saga Krillin is relevant lol also Gohan’s character made more sense. He was young enough to be scared but powerful enough to be a wild card. Cell Saga Gohan, after Namek, I never understood why he spared Cell. When Gohan’s hidden power had been unleashed, we were led to think he could get the job done. He finally unleashed his rage and power and played around and got Goku killed lol

@@maniacslap1623 somewhat agree depending on what op means.
The human characters are even more useless in the cell saga.
      Gohan, piccolo are shared.
Then trunks and Vegeta are useful.
But there were more humans doing stuff.
So who does that leave, Bulma?
I'd say it just evens out.
Maybe no one character got some major power boost. But they all leveled equally instead.

I like the saiyan saga because of how it basically changed the entire story of dragonball, introducing Goku's heritage as a saiyan, introducing the enemy saiyans that forced Piccolo into becoming an ally and very nearly killed the dragonball cast, and even did a great setup for the next arc. I honestly think that I enjoyed the Cell saga more because of better fights (one of my favorites being when Android 18 beat Vegeta), nice tie in from an earlier adventure of Goku, and a pretty nice finish of Gohan being the hero with a lot of help from Goku.

  • @PlagueOfGripes

The first half of the Cell Saga was probably the best writing we ever got, and a lot of that came from the wild editorial interference creating changes in the narrative. Once we hit Imperfect Cell though, it all narrowed out and became pretty typical. I don't have a high opinion of the entire second half. I'd say the Saiyan Saga as the OG is overall better but the Android and time travel and investigative parts of Cell are amazing.

I remember as a kid getting DBZ VHS tapes at a store called Suncoast at the local mall. They were released two at a time and were months ahead of the episodes airing on Toonami. My two favorite sagas of DBZ. They have a lot in common, both start with an invasion, an introduction of a new character and a warning for a new threat which leads to intense training. They are also among the few (at least back then) that didn't revolve around searching for Dragonballs and both ended with Gohan being the hero. They are also the only sagas where the majority of the cast got an epic moment. I'm also a Piccolo fan and they happen to be his two best arcs and biggest roles.

Saiyan saga for me, and not just for the nostalgia. You basically had story telling, the buildup, and most characters were useful vs. the Cell Saga, probably 50%, maybe even less of the characters were just spectators or useless at that point.

I think the saiyan saga is underrated and underappreciated by the dragon ball fans nowadays, because when people think of which dbz arc is their favorite they immediately think about the frieza or cell sagas without giving much thought and appreciation for both the saiyan and buu arcs. I've seen in many polls from channels asking which dbz arc is your favorite, and the ones that always have the most votes is the frieza and cell sagas. You can truly see the underappreciation there. I'm not saying you SHOULD like the saiyan arc, but its just sad to see its unpopularity nowadays.

Many people only look at the fights, as far as story and plot saga in saga plows through all three other sagas , character development was at an all time high and training was valued a lot. The best part was that it took everything for the z fighters to win and they almost still lost which was so entertaining how much they battled and everyone was on their last leg.

Another great collab! It's really so close to call. If it wasn't for the Saiyan Saga, I might've not even have got into the Dragon Ball franchise but I always loved the Cell Saga too. The one perfectly set the new groundwork for the rest of the story to follow and the other had one of the greatest endings with a cunning villain with a few amazing designs that actually had to work to achieve his goals. Because the former is way shorter than the latter it's really not even fair since with so many episodes your bound to have some bad ones but overall they balance out and are quality. You mentioned all the great fights, the character development, the hopelessness, the sacrifices. The music is great in both. I guess I might say Cell only because we get more of a great thing. And the driving episode will always be my favorite filler

Honestly gotta ask how it was a competition tbh. The cell saga I always assumed was universally accepted as the best one.
So much fun complexity with a great mix of character use and fights where everyone gets to shine. Plus ending in the most dramatic conclusion of the series.
The saiyan saga whilst also great and somewhat similar in structure it is less complex which usually wouldn’t matter too much if it was. But in comparison to what we learn and the impact of the character me and character moments. Isn’t really a comparison.

I absolutely love the Sayian Saga. It's easily my favorite, despite it's flaws. I'll say that the Cell Saga is better in terms of plot, characters, and pacing. The Sayian Saga has the better fights and more tension in the fights, without all the completely one sided beatdowns, and the stakes felt so much higher. They won, but at what cost? And no dragon balls to use to hit the reset button. That made the victory bittersweet, as it was hard to celebrate when literally everyone involved was either dead or in the hospital afterward.

They're completely different so it's hard to say which is better. The saiyan saga was much more simple in structure but it opened up so many things. Everything you thought you knew in Dragonball is now changed. Meanwhile the Cell Saga goes places. There's several more antagonists, several timelines at play, elements from the Red Ribbon arc making a return, not to mention the plot is much more complex.

For me the Saiyan arc is full of showing capabilities, full of emotion. I mean I felt the stakes as if I lived inside of the DB universe and with the Cell arc I didn't feel the same. Vegeta or Bejita is not my favorite but I saw how cool he is from the beginning. I think if you saw my comments you already know who my favorites are. When I first watched I had no idea there was a pre story, now after I have everything I stand by my word I felt the Saiyan arc more.

Saiyan. The Cell saga is awesome, but there's a lot of really bad writing in it, and the fighting isn't quite as impactful. The Saiyan saga was really damn brutal, and also more tightly written. It's also the last point in the story where the humans characters weren't basically just background characters, and it still has a classic Dragon Ball feel that I like.
And of course, in the west we don't get the sense of how much of a shift it was, because most people started with Z, but imagine reading that as it came out, or watching it after the original Dragon Ball anime, not knowing about what happens. Must have been crazy.

The Baby saga of GT (what many say is the best part of GT) felt like a repeat of Garlic Jr. in a lot of ways. And then Dragon Ball Super would recycle their own versions of a Goku doppelganger (Goku Black, when Ginyu, Turles, Bardock weren't enough), a Vegeta doppelganger (clone Vegeta), and Broly (Kale, and, uh, Broly). A lot of the best stuff in Dragon Ball wasn't always Toriyama's own idea. In fact, it was Toriyama's WIFE who suggested he do a martial arts story in the first place lol. If it weren't for her, we wouldn't have gotten perhaps ANY of this

Sayan saga is Goku discovering his origin while Cell saga is "the fathers saga": Goku-Gohan and Vegeta-Trunks relationship. Sayan saga plot is shorter and needs to be completed with Frieza saga to be understand better. Which i prefer? I don't know. I think when it comez to these two Sagas the best way to answer it is which Saga has the most draw backs. Because that really decided it for me. The Sayian Saga like many Americans was my first exposure to Dragon Ball Z under the Ocean Dubbing and while it has a special place in my heart I have to myself give it to the Cell Saga. Because Sayian has great battles, moments, and filler and it's the filler that hurts Sayian for me because I'm not a Gohan fan and the Sayian Saga focuses a lot on Gohan where Cell let's Gohan take a back seat for a lot of those stories. The Sayian Saga does have great filler as well, I loved the stuff with Piccolo and the Z Warriors training with Kami, and even the Vegeta and Nappa destroying an alien world to show case their power. The Cell Saga isn't as focused on the filler as there are several story threads going at the same time. So when the Androids are just going around looking for Goku we saw what they did to our heros so there is that relief of ok they aren't doing anything bad, but then Cell wiping out cities getting stronger by the moment starts to up him as the big threat. But when it comes to the big bads in the Sayian Vegeta and Nappa always give you the impression until Goku gets there our heros are finished. In the Cell however there are times when Piccolo, Vegeta, Trunks, and others shine to show Goku doesn't need to save the day which gives a feeling of security you haven't had in the series for a while. So while both rank very high for me I have to give Cell the edge of Sayian but just barely.

  • @enigma7784
    @enigma7784 Год назад

If I really had to make a choice bloody hell what a head ache,I would say the Saiyan saga without the filler and I'd say the Cell saga because there's so much going on and revelations even though the Saiyan arc had the best two revelations that Goku's an alien from a breed of fighting hungry people and Piccolo's reaction after he finds out he's from outer of space too and the philosophies of the higher rank versus the lower rank but I'm going to go with the Cell arc.

@@grecojones The scramble for the actual dragon balls was at its best there, more so even than in Dragon Ball ironically enough. The hunt was at its most serious there, the location of every one of them mattered at all times

You left out a key component of dragon ball - the training arcs. Goku training wirh king Kai is probably the best part of dbz when it comes to training. Second? Gohan and Piccolo training.

Saiyan Saga has Kaioken Goku which is one of my favorite characters
And the Cell Saga was literally so avoidable, if Goku killed Dr Gero in db when he attacked the Red Ribbon Army
Or when Trunks WARNED THEM ABOUT THE ANDROIDS WHICH DUSTED HIS WHOLE TIMELINE and Goku could have literally asked Plot Device I mean Shenron to tp him to Dr Gero and kill him OR when Vegeta gave Cell a chance to absorb android 18 or if Trucks didnt absolutely D RIDE Sir Vegeta Thompson Walter Solmes Prince of all 4 Saiyans Giligan The Fourth to the moon and not want to "ruin his pride"
If i was Trunks i would go SSJ Grade Three and glady destroy Chromosomes brother Cell i would Masenko Cells perfect ahh out from existence and send him to the other dimension
    I rest my case.

Or how about how Trunks came from the future and didn't know where Gero's Lab was. But Bulma was the 1 who knew where Gero's Lab was when Vegeta and everyone was looking for it lol

Both sagas are amazing, But for me the saiyan saga feels a lot more like a dragonball saga than dragonaball z. So it's incredibly difficult to choose between the two.

Cell saga to me was the best saga in the series…
Cell was a compelling villain sophisticated yet ruthless..you see his ups and downs development etc also the androids showing a little human side
Character development Piccolo joining with Kami along with super saiyans..and the levels beyond a regular super saiyan…Trunks Vegeta Goku and seeing Gohan ascend to Super saiyan 2 and being the strongest of the group

Saiyan saga by far..killed off half the cast. Story is more coherent. Fight went down to the wire.

This a good one. The saiyan saga dropped the ball with Raditz. The Cell Saga was too complicated for itself.
I started watching in the Saiyan Saga. The fact that Goku chose to kill his own brother AND die in the process was just next level to me lol I remember the first time I watched, I did NOT expect Goku to die. I also did NOT expect Vegeta to live. I think for that the saiyan saga wins it for me.
Goku literally died for nothing in the Cell Saga. AFTER trunks came back in time to save his life. SS2 Gohan was a controlled rage Gohan, something we never saw to this point. Imagine Gohan getting enough power to kill Frieza in the Frieza Saga and NOT killing him…
