    I have several SWFA fixed power scopes. A fixed 20X on a 6.5 creedmoor AR10. Outstanding and it's $300. I have no problem with fixed power because for target I use full power all the time anyway. I also use Vortex Viper on several rifles.

    I have a savage model 12 in a choate with an swfa ss16x. I have around 900 in mine and it shoots great.

    I recognized the TPS rings on first sight. :-) I got a pair myself. They are by far the best rings you can get for the money...and they're not the most expensive. Another pair of rings I was looking at before the TPS had plastic-like inserts in the base and cap to mitigate any manufacturing tolerances. TPS sold me when I read their machining tolerances are measured at 2/10,000".

      +Commiefornia IMO some of the best on the market and fair priced compared to others.

    Thanks for the Great Review. I think you're like a lot of shooters, you start out with the intentions of staying within a budget. But, then you start to upgrade, and wind up going over budget a little at a time. Hey, it's your money and there are worse things you could be doing.
    I'm starting a build soon, and I think I'm going to wind up in close configuration to yours. Thanks for the tip on the Dark Eagle mags. That's a lot easier than swapping out the bottom metal!

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  9 лет назад

      You are welcome and I appreciate the kind words. . I think many folks like to get shooting ASAP so they buy what they can afford at the time. Lots of people say "buy once cry once" but if f you do things right you will loose very little money (maybe 25%) selling off the old stuff and replacing as you go. I try to find high value items that are budget priced but good quality. Like I said in the video I didn't have a problem at all with my initial build but as money came available I was able to replace a little along.
      Thanks again and don't forget to subscribe for more guns and gear reviews.

    Very impressive video for first video. Well actually a great video all around. Well done. I think your brand choices are quite good. I agree with TPS brand steel or even their alloy rings and bases. Great that you mounted your scope as low as possible. I see your rings are SPACED 100% correctly..ie as far apart as possible.Many pro gunsmiths dont do this step properly. Nice to know about the SWFA bubble clearance.
    Dark Eagle Custom is a great way to go. But I paid a premium for the pre 2015 Savage FCP-SR that already comes with the bottom metal that accepts AICS type single stack 10 round mags(Accurate Mag in fact). Nothing wrong with your way to go.
    But I like my fluted 24" barrel too. My two chassis choices are Bell and Carlson (tan with black spider web...nicer IMO than their desert). Or the MDT LSS super light weight chassis. No rush to change stocks since the old FCP-SR comes with the Acustock in a pleasing (to me) Desert Digital color. Its a cheap "dip" but its fine for starters.
    The kydex riser is quite practical but very ugly IMO. I prefer a nylon/cordura cheek pack with riser strips that you can add. That item will give you very useful storage too.
    A lapped PT&G bolt is a worthy upgrade at some point. Your bolt handle that takes O RINGS is fantastic! Where to get?
    Durka Durkastan..LOL. I would love to have the Atlas or the GG&G bipod, but they are WAY too expensive. Your choice of a Harris is the best all around choice IMO. The way you mounted your mono pod is perfect.
    I HATE shooting next to anyone with a brake so I am paying a huge premium for a Grizzly Brake that comes with a screw on shroud that directs the blast forward when you are shooting next to anyone. Its super light weight (the alloy version). I hate heavy brakes. That's just me.

    I don't know why they do that with mags. In the Marine Corps, I always loaded 28 rounds in a 30 round mag.

    good looking build, The comp is a bad looking copy of a Ross Schuler Design, I have one of his that he made custom for my 6.5 Grendel. I loved it until I replaced it with a Suppressor.

    I appreciate your honesty and information, I bought the rifle about 2 yrs. ago. Mine is doing fine, but I wanted new mags and a better scope. Mine is a 16 1/2 in. barreled model. I wanted the short barrel, but will be swapping stocks. I'm wondering if I can get an ACCUSTOCK for it.

    This has been a really helpful video as I'm building off the same rifle to take a precision rifle class. Do you remember what the stock screw spacing was for the Choate stock for this model? It looks like there are many options.

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  8 лет назад +1

      Just measure center of one hole to the center of the other hole. Call Choate to help you make sure you order the right one. Glad you liked the video, I appreciate the support of the channel.

    I have a 10P-SR, also, and have been searching for a way to do 10 round magazines for a while. Glad I found this video. You still liking that stock? I'm strongly considering one.

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  9 лет назад

      Yes, I like the stock, for the price they are really nice. Only other option I might consider one day is a chassis system. Glad you liked the video and found it helpful. Don't forget to subscribe and share.

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  9 лет назад

      Without knowing your action screw spacing I cant tell you which one to order. You will need to measure your action screws to know for sure which one to order. Like I said call Choate (like I did) to make sure you are ordering the correct stock. They are very nice and helpful. You usually can it cheaper at a place like Midway instead of buying direct from Choate. I called them and found out which one to order then got it from Midway.

    How did you attach the bipod, I believe I have the same stock and on the bottom it is a dovetail groove and I can’t find a bipod or picatiny rail that has a dovetail

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  3 года назад

      It attaches to the sling stud. Or are you talking about the mon-pod on the rear stock? If so I added a piece of Picatinny rail.

    My dealer has a Sagave model 10 fcp with the same stock and Harris bipod and a 20" bull barrel. Gun is barely used and he is giving me a deal $625 out the door. I saw the gun and it looks good, I do not know if that it too much and I am not sure if the weight will be the issue in the future. Aslo gun in not magazine loaded.

    Nice review. I'm working on a similar stock set up for my 10P. Did you have any issues fitting the action to the stock? I've ordered a Choate tactical and have read that there may have to be some material removed from the stock to fit.

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  9 лет назад +1

      Thanks!! Yes I had to remove a very little amount of material around the trigger and bottom metal. Took all of 10 minutes so no big deal. You will really enjoy the rifle and build. Let me know if you have any questions I can help with. Thanks again!!

    have you been able to shoot 1000 yet? I'm looking into buying this gun with a primary arms 4-14x44mm scope. what are your thoughts on that setup.to be able to shoot 1000 yards. thanks

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  8 лет назад

      +Brian Weaver Yes, I have shot at 1k yds but was only on the range for a very short time so didnt have time to video it. That PA 4X14X42 FFP scope is a nice scope and should do you well. I have had it and really liked it for the money it cost. Just make sure you get some nice rings and bases no matter what scope you go with. Let us know what you decided to go with. Thanks for watching!!

    How much space is between the barrel and the stock

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  7 лет назад

      Never measured it but quite a bit of space. If you are worried about it touching it is not touching at all.

    • @ralphhurlbert7708
      @ralphhurlbert7708 7 лет назад

      I asked because I bought the same savage rifle and the same choate stock and I have a bit of space also and I wanted to make sure that it was ok.

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  7 лет назад

      ralph hurlbert Yes, should have a gap. It's called free floating.

    • @ralphhurlbert7708
      @ralphhurlbert7708 7 лет назад +1

      I appreciate your reply but I do know that it is a free float barrel. I've been shooting for most of my life. But this being my first savage and when I put it in this stock it just looked like it had a little more space from barrel to stock. I've looked closer to yours on the video and now see that they have the same space. Thanks for the replys. Really like the vids.

    Yea don't think the title is right.
    This is a very budget build.
    From the scope and rings to the stock and mag. Front to back nothing was expensive.
    Prob still shoots good but everything is low entry level cost.
    Good job but for the title.
    FYI- Hell I prob spent more just on my scope and rings.

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  8 лет назад

      +2003evodave Thanks for the comment! The reason for the title is I started the rifle with very low budget items and went up another level but still "budget" in the grand scheme of precision rifles. Maybe the title would have been better as The not so budget, budget rifle build. :)

    Swfa made by tasco

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  8 лет назад +3

      +APACHE529CREWCHIEF
      Actually no, SWFA is not made by Tasco. Tasco once held the original design that was a military contract on a scope that was a fixed 10x power scope. SWFA bought the rights to it and has continued that scope as well as added to the line of SS once called "Super Sniper" scopes. This info can be found on the web as well as other videos explaining it.
      Tasco as a company has had many trials and tribulations over the years including bankruptcy, and being bought and sold off a few times. For a long time only the name Tasco is original most everything else has changed over the years.

    • @TexanUSMC8089
      @TexanUSMC8089 8 лет назад

      Tasco doesn't manufacture anything. The SS scope was designed by the military and tasco had the first contract. SWFA bought the contract years ago. All mil-spec.

    • @TexanUSMC8089
      @TexanUSMC8089 8 лет назад

      One more thing. SWFA is a store. They sell all brands with great service.

    • @APACHE529CREWCHIEF
      @APACHE529CREWCHIEF 8 лет назад

      Do me a favor and type in tasco super sniper in your google what's the first thing that pops up? Let me just say it's the swfa website with a "review" of the scope that clearly states tasco as a manufacturer. Even swfa says its tasco. Do a little research it's saves you sounding like a jackass. LMFAO "Guns and gear network" you would think they would know LOL

    • @GunsandGearNetwork
      @GunsandGearNetwork  8 лет назад +1

      Call SWFA and ask Chris Farris if Tasco makes these scopes. I have spoken with them directly about these scopes before doing the review.
