Since a random team run doesn't require as much overleveling, it actually sounds like a good fit for Black and White (or B2/W2). Seeing this challenge in more gens would be great.
As creepy as Paras' Gen1 sprite is for me, it looks like he's cheering your team on! The group's lil personal cheerleader. The MVP of the run, clearly. :)

@@devonwilliams5738Specifically Heart Gold/Soul Silver Johto. Because Gen 2 is really not that varied compared to 1.

Side note: EXP All also gives you much lower Stat EXP in Gen 1.
Is that a bug, or intended?
@@RobertJWIt was designed to do stuff like that but because Gen 1, there are a lot of bugs associated with it. Like how if you have 4 Pokemon and one faints, it still quarters the exp even though only 3 receive it.
@@RobertJWIt's just a result of the pokemon not knocking out pokemon themselves, much like how exp share pokemon don't get any EVs in later games, but more meaningful since you can get signficantly more StatEXP then EVs
Would love to have this turn into a series. Would be fun, in my opinion just using what is new to that specific game might work on no repeats as well.
Can you imagine if the game ask you to use Kabuto or Kabutops? 😂 You'd have to pick the Dome Fossil for once!
Nah, he'd probably take Kabuto as a starter.
@@dwanedibly8129in the gen 1 fossil run, he chose the Dome fossil due to picking Omanyte as the starter due to Kabuto having quite the annoying moveset at the start for Brock

Hey MDB, did you know that there's a setting in the randomizer that allows you to evolve trade evo Pokemon by level up instead?! I bet that would be a great way to use the Exp. All (which is what they call the Exp. Share in gen 1 and it works the exact same way as Gen 2 upwards I promise!)
Also after you evolve your Gengar by level up you should equip the dog armor to increase its defense!
Charizard using Rage has evolved into a punchline in Gen 1 challenges, it's amazing.

I would love to see one of these for each generation.
two* for each generation, one with only the new pokemon. then another with the full dex at his disposal, so the rng can possibly demonstrate the vast difference between how good 6 random game specific pokemon are vs the whole pokedex

This idea has always been interesting to me. Me and my friend actually had some Battles using a Random Number Generator team on Pokémon Showdown but I'd really like to do a playthrough like this. Excited to see more of these.
I love your vids they have kept sane through the pandemic and my own health challenges and listening all the way to the end and hearing your rambling outros and hearing your health improve over time had been awesome

great video as always! I did this challenge around 2 years ago on Crystal, interesting how different a run can be with the same rules. your team was definitely better than mine though
This was a lot of fun! If I'd have anything to say is that I think you weren't aggressive enough with your use of TMs. Jigglypuff can learn Water Gun, Mega Punch, Mega Kick, Seismic Toss, Bubblebeam, all of these would have made it easier to train Jigglypuff in the early game. Paras could have learned Dig which would have at least be useful in the overworld (Though, GOLDUCK can also learn it?!). And you could have used the TM for Blizzard on Golduck and you could have replaced Scratch with Strength if you wanted another physical move. I don't think it ended up mattering but you never know.

definitely try this in other gens, I think the transition from runs that are painful to runs that are goofy/surprising is both healthy and more entertaining.
With the exception of paras, this could just be someone’s casual team. Cracked.
This was honestly one of the most fun challenges to watch, I personally am going to start doing this the next time I play pokemon. For sure would love to see this in other gens/games in the future. Thank you for all the fun videos and streams!

I think it'd be fun to see more runs like this every once in awhile. Though I'm still holding out for Pokemon gold/silver with a single Murkrow

A challenge I think might be interesting (game dependent) is an "N" challenge, using only "local" Pokémon for the major battles. Not sure what local counts as, maybe only catchable in the routes adjacent to the battle, or routes since the last major battle
Your Pokemon Stadium series is one of my prime candidates for playlists to fall asleep to. It's such a joy to wake up first thing in the morning and hear Blastoise's Surfing "YEAH."
I would love to see this in future generations because its so random
7:15 "exp all" also miscalculates the exp by rounding down. So it costs you exp. It's only value is if you deposit everything but your starter and take your strongest and weakest Pokemon out for a day trip.

I have actually done this a lot, but ive only ever finishied emerald with a random team. My team was blaziken plusle banette wigglytuff sableye and magneton

Speaking of EXP All item, I once used the MissingNo glitch on it. I can't remember how much exp I got after having over 100 of it, but I remember clicking textboxes away for a solid 5 minutes

I really like this idea, this run reminds me a lot of the run with the in game trades. A weird but not bad team.
My first pokemon game was gold, and despite playing pokemon nonstop for twenty years this is the first time I’ve ever heard of gen 1’s exp all. Nice to still be learning things about these games!

At 10:48 I figure the Jigglypuff is so outraged by being forbidden to sing that they go on a blind berserking rage against Kadabra for the insult. It would be anime-consistent for a pokemon that gets angry at its audience falling asleep to get blazingly furious about being actively prevented from singing.

for more RNG team runs, there's inevitably going to be a problem of "this previous gen pokemon does *not* exist in this game without trading between versions", to which i may have a pre-emptive solution (or at least an idea for one)
when the team includes only one of these trade pokemon, I'd say that that pokemon should be your starter from the UPR
if there's more than one trade pokemon, however, i propose that you should be able to 'trade' between versions by rolling an accesible RNG pokemon from the current generation to trade it for, as if you were actually trading with an npc in-game that *really* wants a Slugma for some reason
I'm not sure if this level of trickery would work given I've never played like this personally, but i am holding out hope :)

Agree that you should do this for every game. Also in this vein, you can do a randomizer with no nuzlocke, especially for the games you haven't shown yet. Add whatever challenge or rules you want but it'll be different and more randomness.

This was quite fun. I would be happy to see you do this again. Super excited for another Skyrim challenge. Your alt challenges are always a refreshing change of pace, end up being incredibly dumb, and I love them.

Pokemon Stadium is great, but I'd argue that you're Pokemon Blue rescue team one is the best Pokemon let's play
One challenge I’d love to see is Pokémon Emerald using only Skitty/Delcatty using only Assist. It’s like a controlled Metrenome run based on what you catch for the rest of your team and what they have upon catching and you have to decide whether you want a diverse move pool but less likely to get what you want or a shallow move pool but getting what you want more often
This would definitely be fun to see in more generations.
Also it might be cool to do a self-imposed rule where the numbers get re-rolled until they're broken up. Maybe do like 2 random numbers close to the start of the dex, 2-3 in the middle, and 1-2 towards the end. Then you'll have a team that consists of early, mid and endgame pokemon with a more likely chance at a legendary or pseudo to grind out at the end. Would also guarantee the team grows at a consistent pace if the rolls dont turn out as nice as they did here.
Looking at your RNG pokemon: "that... kind of just looks like a team"
Definitely think you should do this for other Gens! Ruby/Sapphire or Black/White would be fun.
Hey MDB when you do a run with a Pokemon that doesn't start with any attacking moves you should just use rare candies to level it up until it gets one also you should do a gen-one Jigglypuff run. Also just wanted to mention love your stuff good job 👍

Pokémon Stadium was one of our games growing up. We still have our Nintendo 64 and everything. Gengar + Thunderbolt/Thunder is because of this game. I always wanted Hypnosis + Dream Eater though.

As a challenge idea, would love to see a run with Cacnea one day. It has really good base 85 atk and sp.atk but it's frail and painfully slow, its ability isn't great - buffing evasion during sandstorm is a bit of a double edged sword when you take chip damage from the weather - and in most gens its best level up move is the base 60 power Needle Arm. Running Cacnea in any generation would be fairly challenging, I think.
This strikes me as a great "reward" challenge type. Like first run after a punishing December, or gimmick pokemon that breaks the spirit.
I love this idea for challenges, I hope too see another video with this same idea in the near future
Paras had the most important job. It cheered on the rest of the team along the way and was moral support. This is no more important job than that. More challenges like this would be interesting though and I can't wait to see more videos.
10:42 “JIGGLYPUFF’s diabled no more.” Sing just missed; you could have used it the next turn, but switching to Pound was probably the right call anyway.

Nice! I'm all caught up. I'll leave an explanation below if you're reading this and am curious what I mean. Anyway, you're right in saying the EXP item is trash! I remember hating it as a kid. Also, this was a really cool run and would absolutely love to see more of them. My only thing would be using most of them (which you did in this run and am glad about). As always, keep plugging away, dude.
In regards to the aforementioned, I had a back log of downloaded videos (went on vacation) and that snowballed for a while. It's dumb, but I generally don't comment on vidoes unless I watch them within a certain time frame... probably because I hate getting comments made months ago myself. I dunno. All and all, even if I don't comment on these, I will always watch them for what it's worth.

To make it more of a challenge, maybe you could implement a rule forcing you to use your most underleveled mon first? Or stop using one of them if their level gets like 5 levels over the one with the least levels. Forcing you to use the whole team throughout the run!

Since you had so much fun with it, you could make a series of pokemon randomized playthroughs. It fits well with your content and the genre is very popular, even though most people do it as nuzlocks.

Yes, but if two of his Pokémon suck, then it becomes another solo run with the only good one.

I like the randomness and mild unpredictability, really freshens up the gameplay. Hopefully this technology comes to mobile roms/emulators.

This seems like a good idea to try for all the games, to be honest. Nice break from "challenges" and gets you to try pokemon you may not have tried before. Maybe. You've been playing these for a while.
I would have LOVED if the RNG made you need the Kabuto family, thus making you take the Dome Fossil.
First of all this was an excellent challenge, whoever is saying do these in other generations, fully agree. Second of all how funny would it have been if the RNG gave you Kabuto/Kabutops so you had to take the dome fossil 🤣

If you do this again i think the starter should always be the pokemon that would take you the longest to encounter. In this case rapidash. Otherwise a pokemon picked up this late is likely to just be ignored
