Love your video! My sister married a Frenchman & this is where he grew up, St. Gilles. They lived there for about 4 yrs. where he owns a home. Anyway, I went there 4 summers in a row with my then small child ., 1999-2002. Beautiful place!! Thank you!
Really Beautiful Video. I am from Germany and already have been like twenty times for Holiday in St. Hilaire de Riez. So I really enjoy watching Videos of my "second home" :-)
Hello Diane, nice to see you in St Gilles Croix de vie, I'm in Los Angeles, I'm French living in LA, spent 3 weeks last August in St Hilaire de Riez in my apt by the beach. Love the location.❤
Allo, im angie. I'm from St Gilles Croix de Vie and now leaving in Canada. It's nice to watch your video, i felt depressed, missing my family and where i grew up. I just wanted to jump in the comments to give some other explanation 😊. St Gilles Croix de Vie has actually 2 churchs because it used to be 2 differents cities, St Gilles on one side of "La Vie" (the river in the middle) and Croix de Vie the other side. So basically we just kept the 2 churchs when the 2 cities joined together to create St Gilles Croix de Vie. About the préfou, it is traditionnaly only garlic and butter, and it used to be the morning snacks of farmers hahahaha, can't imagine the smell at 10 am 😂. Then the big compagnies like sodebo started to make new flavour prefou, like pizza flavour. But it's not traditionnal, and i kind of hate it hahaha. Vive le prefou a l'ail !!! Idk if you had the chance to go to the "trou du diable" it's outside the city, but when it's high tide it makes a jeyser of sea water. Also for fan of beer needs to go to the sloop ! 😂 it's a beer bar not far from the train station right after the "Cave" and the clothes store "mat de misaine". And get an Antillaise, one and you will be drunk 😅 If you want to try a Vendee alcohol you need to try the "Trouspinette". I'm sorry for this long comment, but i'm so passionnate by my department and city, i miss it so much.
LOVE WINDOW SHOPPING! Even better when you take us inside. So many of these walks in Europe walk straight down the middle of the street looking neither to the right or left. A BUMMER!
Love this place, been here twice. There used to be a Carousel on the corner by the bridge that my kids loved. Always a good atmosphere. Fabulous night market in the summer buy the church. Even thought about buying a property just outside of the town until they turned part of the beach into a nudist beach. Such a shame as its a fabulous place.
Thank you so much for this video! Our daughter just moved to this city so it is nice to be able to see what she will be seeing and experiencing. Blessings.
Thank you for the wonderful video, Diane! I’m going there in july for a week, and I hope the weather will be nice. Always worried when I’m on vacation in a small town, but I hope this one will be nice. Thanks for the tour!
I lived there from 2002-2006. I loved it very much as far as the place goes. The house I lived in was more in the croix-de-vie side which wasn’t shown. Thanks! Great to see it
Hi, from Ontario, Canada. I like the fact that you're offering us behind the scenes info as you are walking through the town. I find it interesting. Thank you.
you probably dont care but does someone know of a method to log back into an Instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I would appreciate any tips you can give me
@Ellis Cairo Thanks for your reply. I found the site through google and I'm trying it out atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hi from Washington state. I saw your amazing bakery videos and I am enjoying this walking tour! I lived in Paris for 4 months in 1998, love what you said about respect and learning at least the words bonjour, merci and au revoir.
Just seeing this video now, and I can't say enough how happy I am you did this walking tour!! My family had a summer house in St Gilles across the street from the beach and Le trou du diable (St Hilaire de Riez) almost next door to Hotel la Corniche, and I spent a few summers here. I have such wonderful memories!! I don't recognize the center of town anymore. If you do make it back out that way... would you mind taking videos near the beach/ hotel... Merci mille fois!!!!!
Thank you for the video, Diane. I loved it! I am from Brazil and I have a huge interest by France. I felt myself walking with you throughout those streets. Merci beaucoup par la video! C'est super!!!
I stayed there for a language exchange for 6 months a while ago, and this gave me such nostalgia seeing it from a persons point of view! Thank you so much for making my day
Merci, Diane. Missed the live event but caught up with you on the replay. Very enjoyable and informative walk. But I missed your 'salut' at the end. Keep up the great tours...look forward to the chevre.
Salut! O my gosh I am in love with this beautiful town!!!! Thank you so much for sharing!!! It's breath taking!!! I'm from the East coast..CT.... And this awesome 😊. Thank you! Diane you are awesome ❤️❤️😍
Diane ! Blessings to you from Chapel Hill, NC! Have watched all your videos and have been on your website and read several blogs; many more to finish! Thanks for these wonderful videos that are escapes to me, as I have mobility issues, right now. I like how you slow down at the menus, and prices, so that the camera settles and let's us actually read what you're seeing. Very interesting, informative, and fabulously fun. It's like I'm out with a gal pal for the afternoon. Continue the good work, even if you take months breaks between videos, just keep them coming at your pace. Your work is noticed! Hugs! Q
I’m so glad I found your channel. I love France and feel a conviction to be familiar with French culture as an urban planner and an American born French citizen. This was a pleasure to watch. There aren’t a lot of places where you can just stroll along freely like this in the town where I live ( in south Florida)
Love your walks and whatever! Vicariously enjoying your time in France...Love and thoughts from tiny Otto, North Carolina, in the Great Smoky Mountains. :)
Hi Diane, I know nothing about you but I think you're hot onto something big. There's definitely a market for these walkabout videos. Nobody else is doing them that I know of. It's like Rick Steves without trying to sell you on a tour. You've got something here so keep it up. Mike from Oregon.
Thanks Mike! There are few people who do walks in Paris and other big cities, but I'm happy to bring my own style to it and show people smaller towns. I appreciate your comment!
Hi Diane, sorry I missed the live session. It looks gorgeous, I can’t believe the ocean is so calm. These little resort towns are so quaint, in California I recommend Morro Bay and Carmel by the Pacific Ocean , if you ever get to visit the coast. There is just something about the salty breeze and the relaxed atmosphere that is so quintessential to beach towns, Saint Gilles including. What I love about France though is the easy connection through trains. No traffic, no worries about parking, no stress about driving. Thank you for a lovely afternoon walk, I really appreciated your effort to show us another beautiful spot in France.
Hi Niculina, thanks for tuning in. Love that part of Cali! In fact, the ocean was actually really rough today about 10 min from here. The water here was just around the port, a little bay.
Bonjour! Catching this on the replay and enjoying it thoroughly. I'm a new subscriber from northern California. I look forward to the next one and hope to catch it live. I love the commentary, btw, you have a very engaging voice, like a radio host. Thank you for sharing!
Like Dianne I live a little inland but keep our boat at La Rochelle so spend much time on the coast. Also like Dianne i'll be glad to answer any questions if I can. I'll start off by saying although fish & seafood is available all over France, there is nothing better than eating at a seafront restaurant with the salty atmosphere.
Hi from Lawrence, Kansas USA. Previously lived in south Florida, Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota. The bridge in the beginning of your video reminds me a little of Las Olas Blvd on the intracoastal waterway in Fort Lauderdale, FL with the sailboats and yachts anchored in the water.
I'm here 3 hours too late I guess. This is great, window shopping in France. I doubt you need a script as fast as you talk your mind probably spins twice the speed. I am living in the white cold Midwest now but from Siesta Key FL. Love your channel
Hi there! Never too late for the replay. ;-) Will do my best to schedule in advance, though. I try to keep it moving and pack in as much info as I can. No one likes a boring walk with dead air. ;-) Thanks for watching!!
Hi there! I'm glad you like France. The world's a village, isn't it? Would you believe I live in France but happen to know Vancouver and Ridgefield, Wa?
Thank you so much! That was quite a tour of that sweet town and I appreciate your efforts. I’ve watched a few of you videos recently and have only a small request. Could you throw in an occasional French phrase? Not asking for lessons here, just a little cultural reference. Again, merci beaucoup for your videos.
You're welcome! Sure, what phrases do you want to hear? Like sayings or practical phrases like "a table for 2 please"and "where is the restroom please?"
@@OuiInFrance Hi, and Good Morning from California. My wife and I spent two weeks in Paris in September and I became interested in the art, culture and the language of France. I relive the experience by viewing your videos. So, I ask if you could occasionally throw in a comment like, "Regarde, c'est un jardin ou vous peut marche avec le chien." (excuse my loose translation) or possibly a small interaction with anyone you may talk to. Nothing drastic, just a quick comment in French. I do like your style of reporting and do not ask you to change. Either way, I enjoy your videos quite a bit. Keep'em coming!
