Nonetheless, I've always known how to throw, and take, a punch. I was once working a shitty part time job as a pizza delivery driver in a pretty sketchy area of a city...did so for about 2 years without incident. One night, I was delivering to a house and as I approached the porch (delivery bag in one hand, bag of their sodas in the other), I was suddenly blindsided by a sucker punch. A weak sucker punch, and the fucker came at me from my side, and rather than connect with my cheekbone, eye, or jaw, he clipped the bridge of my nose just enough to cut it. I turned to square with the guy, and saw a pretty small dude...and I'm not exactly a towering, or jacked, individual. I'm kinda thin, but still athletic and cut like a flyweight. I was about to justifiably fuck his world up, when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked just enough to my right to see 4 other dudes had walked up and were basically walling me off from the street. I said something to the effect of "what the fuck, this is how you show how hard you all are? 5 on 1?" The biggest of them just said, "yep," and they moved in. Did I decide to go out in a hail of punches? No, fuck no, because I'm not a fictional tough guy character in a movie. Realizing resisting through my own force would be the thing to nearly guarantee I'm hurt badly, or worse, I instead started to backpedal towards the porch of the house I was delivering to. They got to me as I unintentionally hit my foot on their first step and lost my balance, and shoved me down on the porch. My biggest concern at that point wasn't about fighting my way out. It was about protecting my head and neck, and just attempting to make myself as hard to hit as possible by any means necessary. They punched and kicked me, but never got a single clear hit on my head or neck. Granted, it was clear to me when they started hitting me that none of them really knew what the fuck they were doing. Either that, or my defensive approach made them really feel like pussies for continuing to hit someone not attempting to fight back. I'll never really knew if it was one or the other, or a little from column A and a little from column B. 🤷🏻♂️ Long story short, eventually someone walked by (the homeowners were throwing a party in their back yard and had music blasting pretty loud, so they were all oblivious to what was going on), yelled at these dudes and came running over, and they all took off. I don't know if the guy pulled a piece, or what, but they were gone and out of sight before I'd fully pulled myself upright. I ended up with a cut on my nose, 2 broken ribs, a bruised kidney, and outside that just bruised from the hits/kicks. I got lucky, for sure, because it could've been infinitely worse. I won't go into the PTSD/Survivor's Guilt something like this causes, but let's just say I'd never wish that on anyone. But I will say, had I not taking a "bitch" approach to defending myself, there's a strong possibility I'd be disabled, brain damaged, or no longer here. Because I live in reality, and wish to remain in it as long as I naturally can. If I'd felt at any point like I was really in trouble of serious injury/death, I might've made a go at them, but it doesn't make me feel good to imagine it, because I am fully aware of how well it almost certainly wouldn't have gone. Her dude saved himself in more ways than he realized that day. 😅

I was about to justifiably fuck his world up, when I caught movement out of the corner of my eye. I looked just enough to my right to see 4 other dudes had walked up and were basically walling me off from the street.
I said something to the effect of "what the fuck, this is how you show how hard you all are? 5 on 1?"
The biggest of them just said, "yep," and they moved in.
Did I decide to go out in a hail of punches? No, fuck no, because I'm not a fictional tough guy character in a movie. Realizing resisting through my own force would be the thing to nearly guarantee I'm hurt badly, or worse, I instead started to backpedal towards the porch of the house I was delivering to.
They got to me as I unintentionally hit my foot on their first step and lost my balance, and shoved me down on the porch.
My biggest concern at that point wasn't about fighting my way out. It was about protecting my head and neck, and just attempting to make myself as hard to hit as possible by any means necessary.
They punched and kicked me, but never got a single clear hit on my head or neck. Granted, it was clear to me when they started hitting me that none of them really knew what the fuck they were doing. Either that, or my defensive approach made them really feel like pussies for continuing to hit someone not attempting to fight back. I'll never really knew if it was one or the other, or a little from column A and a little from column B. 🤷🏻♂️
Long story short, eventually someone walked by (the homeowners were throwing a party in their back yard and had music blasting pretty loud, so they were all oblivious to what was going on), yelled at these dudes and came running over, and they all took off.
I don't know if the guy pulled a piece, or what, but they were gone and out of sight before I'd fully pulled myself upright. I ended up with a cut on my nose, 2 broken ribs, a bruised kidney, and outside that just bruised from the hits/kicks.
I got lucky, for sure, because it could've been infinitely worse. I won't go into the PTSD/Survivor's Guilt something like this causes, but let's just say I'd never wish that on anyone. But I will say, had I not taking a "bitch" approach to defending myself, there's a strong possibility I'd be disabled, brain damaged, or no longer here. Because I live in reality, and wish to remain in it as long as I naturally can.
If I'd felt at any point like I was really in trouble of serious injury/death, I might've made a go at them, but it doesn't make me feel good to imagine it, because I am fully aware of how well it almost certainly wouldn't have gone.
