I did weightlifting in HS and it is a fantastic sport for women. Very encouraging envirornment. The only thing that sucks is that the whiteboard only ever mentioned absolute weight on the scoreboard so it was very rare for the women to get on the scoreboard. Ranking by relative weight would go a LONG way to highlight female strength and encourage women in the sport.
I disagree. Absolute weight is definitely a better metric for a scoreboard. Relative weight requires you to factor in your body weight, which not everyone knows or wants to tell. Calculating relative weight is also more difficult/prone to error. It's also easier to manipulate your relative weight since it will come out higher if you say that your body weight is lower.

I think a couple of them said it best - this is not a ranking of pure strength - this was a ranking of power lifting; which is a VERY specific lift and skill. Huge props to those that were competitive PLs that were there - well done. Don't count out Chad though - what a lot of people don't understand is how overall strong those tall big kids are; just because he may not know any power lifting technique so he can't use his actual strength limit because he doesn't know the technique well.
@@toasted1899that’s not how it works, it’s about leverage specifically about how the upright you can keep your torso while holding the bar plus how high the bar is when it locks out compared to your knees.
Simple math. If you have shorter bones, you have more leverage with same muscle strenght. I.e you can lift bigger weigths. Also the bar is just tiny bit higher relatively when youre shorter.
Look at the world's absolute strongest people alive: Hafthor Bjornnson (sorry about the spelling) - 200Kg Eddie Hall - 200Kg (at the time he pulled 500Kg. He's since cut down quite a bit) Brian Shaw - 200Kg Notice any pattern here? Strongman weight classes cap out at 105Kg, so the only reason competitors work their way up to a higher bodyweight is to increase the upper limit of their overall strength. If bodyweight does not correlate to strength, why would any strength sport divide by weight class?
The final ranking is literally in the ascending order of height. And there's a reason - shorter people have a much shorter range of motion and can pull more - specially while doing sumo.
BRO I was thinking the same... the first and second place .. BOTH did a sumo pull which is way easier than a deadlift. The last place never deadlifted in his life. How is this a fair "strength" contest. Less range of motion and Sumo Pull makes you easily pull 3 times your own bodyweight. In my Opinion the Black guy is the Strongest, because he is doing a lowerback pull with that weight, which is really strong.

Not really, it depends who is lifting. Sumo makes it easier for some at first half but harder for others on the second half. For almost all deadlifting competitions both techniques are allowed (not for strongman). But you are not completely off. Deadlift is definitely harder for tall people because the weight has to travel for a longer distance. So you are 100% correct about the range of motion. I've tried sumo for the last 2 months and now I'm crashing badly and can't figure out my mistakes still working on it with technique so now I'm going back to conventional and I'm pulling higher PRs. This is not professional advice because none of the participants are my clients. The producer(s) of this video has (have) much to learn about strength. Allison and India are both strong and clearly experienced. Kudos to Chad for trying, but he came dangerously close to an injury. Kaleb wasn't using any accessories for his deadlift. Nathen used a belt for support and he's the only person in this video that used lifting straps to improve his grip. Kaleb is probably just as strong, if not stronger than Nathen. Giving each of the participants a belt and lifting straps would have produced more accurate results. The producer(s) could have also had each of them attempt the lifts sans any assistance like Kaleb. Johnny was clearly the strongest participant by far.

Allison was the mvp in this. Because despite of being a small petite girl, she was able to lift off weights much heavier compared to her own weight. Unlike the other 6'0 girl who couldn’t lift much more than her despite of being double her size.
Jonny was the mvp
@@JayZeeZ I mean he was the winner but he is around 80kg. Sure he lifted weights much higher than his own body weight. Ik even i can lift more than her but average girls around her size and weight can barely lift only 50kg.
@TheBengaliG yap yap yap
@@TheBengaliG both are impressive but yeah no Jonny was the mvp. The heavier you are, the harder it will become to lift comparative to your body weight. That's why you see so many records of people lifting over 4x their body weight when its in weight classes below 85kg but then after that, the relative strength drops off SIGNIFICANTLY.

Just have a women score board too
I disagree. Absolute weight is definitely a better metric for a scoreboard. Relative weight requires you to factor in your body weight, which not everyone knows or wants to tell. Calculating relative weight is also more difficult/prone to error. It's also easier to manipulate your relative weight since it will come out higher if you say that your body weight is lower.

yeah every time I watch these videos I wonder if there was any warm up which is like super crucial especially for beginners.
Actually, for deadlift in particular being shorter makes it easier since there's less range of motion
@@toasted1899that’s not how it works, it’s about leverage specifically about how the upright you can keep your torso while holding the bar plus how high the bar is when it locks out compared to your knees.

Allison is such a great rep for us smaller girls! Always been weird to me how people correlate body weight to strength!
So the claim has no base in reality at all?
Bodyweight to strength ratio is not linear
Body weight actually does correlate to strength in many ways
Simple math. If you have shorter bones, you have more leverage with same muscle strenght. I.e you can lift bigger weigths.
Also the bar is just tiny bit higher relatively when youre shorter.
Look at the world's absolute strongest people alive:
Hafthor Bjornnson (sorry about the spelling) - 200Kg
Eddie Hall - 200Kg (at the time he pulled 500Kg. He's since cut down quite a bit)
Brian Shaw - 200Kg
Notice any pattern here?
Strongman weight classes cap out at 105Kg, so the only reason competitors work their way up to a higher bodyweight is to increase the upper limit of their overall strength. If bodyweight does not correlate to strength, why would any strength sport divide by weight class?
Bro they didnt even seem to cate about the rank thing anymore, they were just having fun.
johnny is a beast. he hit #1 on 3 categories.
Let us short people be good at something, please

I’m surprised no one has commented on the difference in stances used. Sumo is easier to lift heavier because there’s a shorter range of motion vs. a conventional stance. Would’ve been nice to see the same stance to get a more accurate result.
