    The conversation before the accident is just two professionals doing what they love. You can tell by their comments that they are coming in for a routine landing and are all around in a good mood. They followed instructions and all procedures as they had done in the thousands of hours of previous flights. It is sad that it causes things like this to happen before changes happen. I suspect that procedures and processes are constantly being reviewed and updated in order to keep planes safe. There is so much that can go wrong with a airplane and most of the time, everything is perfectly safe. Thank you for the video which (obviously) got me thinking about the situation.

    Imagine being the pilots; flying an almost brand new plane, carrying passengers, at the end of the flight, flying back to your home city. All of a sudden, the plane breaks up, and spirals towards the ground, you losing consciousness before hitting the ground, accepting your fate.
    Truly a terrible fate, may the souls on board rest in peace. Gone too soon.

    • @edwardsnowedus3711
      @edwardsnowedus3711 5 лет назад

      Wonder what the actual comments of the doomed pilots flying into the ground at 150mph were? No mention here. [correction actually the plane was flying at 300 mph initially]

    • @JohnByeBye
      @JohnByeBye 5 лет назад +14

      Edward Snowedus I read the CVR transcript. There is no dialog after what is included in this video. It’s a grunt like sound then the rest are warning sounds from the aircraft. The pilots lost consciousness.

      Yeah that would be a pretty horrific eay to die. The passengers and crew may have not blacked out though. It takes alot of gs to knock a person out. At least minimum 7 to 8 sustained. Even if they didn't, it was quick. Because there was no conversation on the CRV, it may have been due to the sudden terror and trauma of losing control of the aircraft and plunging towards the ground.

  • @DiamondHunterMc

    This is so ironic. The very maintenance crew that was there to fix the plane and ensure their safety, were the ones that caused the plane to crash.

  • @spryfolII
    @spryfolII 5 лет назад +4

    Watching these videos of these accidents reminds me that, when we decide to travel by air, there are so many levels of confidence we need to have. Simply because once we take off, our fate lies not only with the individuals who operate the aircraft, but the maintenance crew, the workers who load the plane, the weather conditions, the planes structural condition and the competency of the pilots and air traffic control officers.
    There is so much that happens before, during, and after the take off and landing safely than most realize.
    These machines, are built to last, but the people behind the scenes hold most of the cards as our lives are in their hands. This is one reason when I see someone connected with the aviation community, I try to acknowledge the appreciation I have of them for the hard work and dedication it takes to entet into a career that literally has our lives in their hands. Its a HUGE rexponsibility.
    However, when we look at these videos, the margin of error in this indusrty is as minsule as the margin cam get. Thats zero.
    Every CEO of these mega companies should make mandatory rules involving the maintenance, inspection, cleanliness, and plenty of training, and more training on the possibility that something could wrong, and if the investigation from a accident shows negligence, of a employee or employees then consequences will tough and swift. Deceased customers don't get do overs, and negligent work from negligent employees and CEOs (they definitely dont get any passes) especially for cutting corners to save a dollar. Its Despicable, and it cost not only a lot of money, but in the worlds
    economy stage, the Airline Indusry make up a enormous slice of the pie. Meantime innocet! People are caught in the web, So it would seriously behoove those involved that this mode of transportation is NEVER compromised, If the people lose faith in flying, imagine what the market would do? It could be instant bubble burst.
    So be responsible everyone. Keep us alive and do your job and do it extra right.

    Great video! For commenters questioning the fire and/or the plane breaking up, the NTSB report supports these events. The report also quotes eight eyewitnesses:
    •Flying normally;
    •Wings level, slightly nose down;
    •Suddenly consumed by fireball;
    •Wingtips & part of tail protruding from fireball;
    •A bright flash;
    •Orange or red-orange flames at time of flash or immediately thereafter;
    •Sputtering engines, followed by three pops;
    •A revving sound;
    •A flat spin to the left until impact;
    •Left wing dangling from blown-out area;
    •Right wing missing;
    •Flying parts during downward spiral.
    Addendum: 47 screws were missing!

  • @jameswyatt1304
    @jameswyatt1304 5 лет назад +6

    The reported information was great, with a clean explanation of how the maintenance hand-off was missed, why rapid descents are risky, and how a flight can go from blithely-mundane to unrecoverable in an instant. It would be nice to have more text background in the description.
    However, there's no evidence I can see to support in-flight fire before impact, or did I miss something? It's an interesting video until the plane is shown on *fire* when it'd simply lost the horizontal stabilizer; at that point the video suddenly descends to a Sharknado-level of credibility. Machinima techniques using flight simulators to animate scenes are cost-effective, but often fall short of the runway when too many corners are cut. Lots of good work, though.

    Having flown from the Laredo airport before (very tiny airport with only 4 gates), riding one of those tiny charter airplanes really terrified me. I’ve endearingly nicknamed them “mosquito planes”, and any slight turbulence would be magnified 5 fold compared to a large 747. I can’t imagine how it must have felt during that rapid descent. My heart goes out to those who’ve lost their lives on that flight and the families affected by this disaster.

Turns out the mechanics pulled the crankshaft bolts and when they were reinstalled they were not tightened properly. Sure glad they held tight for my flight! Luckily everyone on the flight survived with no injuries because the plane itself was equipped with a parachute.

    Your recreations are top notch, so please take this one note not as a criticism but as a note to make your details much better.
    The E120 cockpit is in fact that of a King Air. I have noticed it in all of your E120 videos. You cannot see the prop in front to your R or L out of the E120 DV windows. You in fact look behind. Also the circuit breakers are above on the overhead panel not to the side near the FO’s leg. There are a few other major details but I assume you get the point.

    nowadays/(27-yrs later!) maybe an NTSB 'supercomputer' could listen to each mechanic in America explain each step he/she makes in the maintenance. if he/she misses a step, the computer can set off a little alarm reminding the mechanic of the possible error. or maybe a computer camera on each mechanic could watch, so the mechanics don't have to 'mutter' endlessly to a computer each and every move he/she makes in every repair...... isn't this what super-computers are capable of in 2018 to protect lives?! Why is there a fireball depicted bursting from the aircraft's underbelly, if the horizontal stabilizer was the problem? The animation makes it look like the plane was shot down or exploded.

    Going to land this like the space shuttle.
    Only if the plane is intact.
    Imagine removing screws, not telling your supervisor or the next shift you did so and then buggering off home.
    Also, piss poor of the midnight shift not to check both sides before clearing the aircraft as a safety measure

    This is not the first maintenance related crash. The authorities need to start holding the maintenance people criminally responsible for their slipshod work. Hopefully the prospect of being charged with man slaughter if a individual actions lead to the death of others will be enough motivation

    My question is....
    At 6:46 it's stated "...F/O Rodosovich initiated a high speed descent,which caused the stabilizer to give way...."
    Was the F/O guilty of being irresponsible with a "faster than normal" descent?

    • @vikramgupta2326
      @vikramgupta2326 5 лет назад +3

      No, it sounds like the high speed descent was still within the operational limits of the aircraft, if it had been put back together correctly.

      @@ebayerr . Yeah, he "made like the space shuttle" alright. It was unnecessary, but not the ultimate cause of the crash. Had he not done it that way? Well, they'd probably still be alive.

    Human error. Accidents happen. But when people's lives are on the line there should be no procedure left undone. Double, triple check it. I'm amazed at the frequency of simple human error in what seems the majority of these accidents. X Pilot thank you for these awesome videos.

    So much money was wasted looking for the leading edge. The only thing it told them was the screws on the top weren’t attached. The fact that screws were present in the bottom but not the top of the horizontal stabilizer would have told them the same thing without the expensive search for the leading edge.

    The rapid descent was intended ? Can somebody explain me why it was intended so steep ?

    • @radon360
      @radon360 5 лет назад +1

      It was steeper than normal probably because they needed to stay clear of the airspace used for Houston Hobby approaches. That said, the intent wasn't to go into a dive. That was caused by the loss of the stabilizer.
      Need to go see if the NTSB report elaborates on the reason.

    • @Kedo2
      @Kedo2 5 лет назад

      Thank you, just was not sure why the F/O said to push that descent to make it look like the space shuttle and then the plane dives. So I guess they tried to descent, stabilizer died and that made subtle descent into the nightmare descent.
