Fun Fact: Toy Story 2 was originally supposed to be a direct-to-DVD sequel commissioned by Disney. This would later cause some conflict regarding their original agreement, but what was immediately difficult for Pixar was that Disney saw what they were doing it and decided to make it a theatrical movie... which Pixar themselves thought it wasn't good enough for theaters and wanted a rewrite. Disney, however, wouldn't give them the proper amount of time for that sort of thing, so basically this movie ended up being rushed to meet their own standards, with a lot of animators basically throwing in their own scenes to fill out time. Knowing that, it's actually quite amazing that this movie is not only as good as it is, but managed to be just as good, if not better than the first movie!
They also almost deleted the entirety of this movie by accident, and it was only saved by some backups another employee had. Amazing how great this movie turned out knowing all of the production hell it went through.
Man I wish I could see this all play out. The pressure each of them had, the complications with Disney, the amount of time they all had to put in just to get it done. This would be a great documentary.
I respect Pixar they make great movies even by rushing

“I’ll never give in! You killed my father!”
“No, Buzz... I am your father!”
“NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!”
I love that movie
That got a big laugh in the theater the first time I saw it!
Zurg is hands-down the coolest character in the movie! I don't care if he has only 3 minutes of screen time. He really leaves an impression!!
@@casesoutherland4175 yes always wanted his movie version of the toy
Fun fact: I saw this movie before ever seeing Star Wars (I was about 5 when I saw Toy Story 2) so the big twist in Star Wars was spoiled because of that joke. People sometimes ask me "What did you think when you first found out about Vader?". I respond with "So THAT'S where the joke came from!", referring to Toy Story 2. Sometimes you see the spoof before the original source.
Jessies backstory is the most emotional Disney moment imo, apart from maybe toy story 3s ending. Those get me every time!
+ThirrintheMoose Toy Story 2 (thanks to that scene) and The Fox and The Hound were the only Disney movies capable of making me cry until Inside Out came along lmfao
+ThirrintheMoose Actually, I believe Sergeant Calhoun from Wreck It Ralph was programmed with the most tragic backstory.

I liked this movie a lot.
Me too.

If people don’t like this movie, they clearly have a problem with not being played with
Did you HAVE to pick THAT particular song for background, Doug... Are you trying to break people's tear ducts...
I"M NOT CRYING, YOU"RE CRYING!!!!! WAAAAAHHHH!!! ='( I'm also in my twenties and still choking up.
I FUCKING KNOW RIGHT?! IT GETS TO ME EVERY FUCKING TIME! D':

Gosh dangit, that song always makes me choke up..
can confirm. am crying right now.
Damn you, Sarah MacLachlan! First, you make me cry over abused animals. Then, you make me cry over toys.
Glad I'm not the only one.
I'm sorry bud😟😞😔
@@RyanStorey1231 oh shit
This one's the *best* _Toy Story_ movie, in my opinion.
(Sure, we haven't seen the 4th one yet, but I doubt it'd be better than the 2nd)
+Paradox Acres worse* It's a romantic-comedy.
+Paradox Acres Yeah, I don't think Toy Story 4 will be better than 2, but I'm sure it'll be great. The plot sounds fantastic!
ιllυмιиαтι-ѕαи It's described as a romantic comedy (which will have a lot of drama as well no doubt) where Woody and Buzz set of on a journey to find Bo Peep because she's his (Woody's) soul mate or something along those lines.
You know, this is the first comment I read of yours that isn't about Huniepop.
+Adam Poole (animeguy4ever) i agree with you, they should just stick with the short's.
I could not stop watching this masterpiece when I was a child. Replay after replay, after replay, after bloody replay. I loved it back then and I still love it today.
You know why Toy Story has good sequels?
Because Toy Story was actually DESIGNED with sequels in mind, or at least with a premise that can go into other stories!
Randy Newman or not, you know it's a powerfull song when it made Tom Hanks and Tim Allen cry during first time played.
this movie prepares us for what we all have to do: grow up.
+MasterJunior93 And the third movie shows the kid growing up...and its sad.
Toy Story 2 has always been my favorite.
I was watching this on VHS while the news was broadcasting 9/11.
Well this is depressing
THE FUCK?!
As was I.. Greatest day of my life. O also hale satin and all that stuff.
I shouldn't be laughing now. But wow.
+Nathan Alcantara 9/11 was okay movie like 4/10 not much action didnt miss much
Omg that scene with Jessie being left on the road side, I cried so much.
This is one of the first movies that made me cry as a kid, all because of that montage of Jessie and Emily >.< And that song ;-;
I agree. I think this was better than the first as well.
Katie Cochran everyone dose it just is even as a grown man I can watch it
I agree as well.
I don't just think this is the best Pixar movie.
I don't just think this is the best CGI movie.
I don't just think this is the best Disney movie.
I don't just think this is the best animated movie.
I think this is the best movie of all time.
Dr.CookiesNeedLoveLikeEverthingDoes Opinions exist though.
Rotten TOmatoes agree with you too. Seriously: check it out!
mickeyelric11, you're right. Toy Story & Toy Story 2 both got 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Derpy Dude you forgot how it's the best movie sequel ever
Ben Sell nah that title goes to Empire Strikes Back and Two Towers. God do you guys watch movies except of kids movies
This movie has a special magic to it

I love when the sequel is even better than original.
Yah those always seem to be some of the greatest movies
Me: 10/10
“i’m not crying I’m just sweating out of my eyes”
"Toy Story 2" is another favorite Pixar Animated Film that I love and it was perfect. The second one reflect with dramatic moments and turn into a quiet moment of letting go with your owners and then more exciting scenes where the toys came here to the rescue with fun and awesome. The song makes me sad that it's so good and very touchy. One of the best Randy Newman's songs of all time. Much the first one, the movie makes me cheer with fun toys and reminding me as my childhood of playing them. Great sequel to a great movie.
I am going to go ahead and say it, if people hate me for this I don't really care, I think in my opinion, Toy Story 2 is the best Toy Story movie ever made.
This is my favorite Pixar movie! Jessie was always my favorite when I was growing up. Also the song that plays during the scene where we see Jessie's story makes me cry every time, so THANK YOU FOR PUTTING IT IN THE BACKGROUND! I'm now a puddle of tears. :'(
Best movie of the franchise imo
True
My personal favorite of the Toy Story trilogy, one of the only few Perfect Trilogies to ever be made.
This makes me want to play with my old toys again
Don't worry guys! I still love you!
TheKeller101 same, I wish I still had all my Thomas wooden railway toy with me today cause I got back into it back in 2013
Tbh I think Toy Story 2 is one of the greatest sequels of all time
possibly my favorite animation movie of all time. Like it rivals Miyazaki's best work. It's so touching and well crafted, I don't have any gripes with it
Woody being my favourite character ever, I remember being absolutely traumatized by this movie back when I was a toddler. I just couldn't take seeing him being constantly mutiled throughout the whole movie.
That being said, in hindsight, Toy Story 2 is the best Toy Story movie Pixar ever did, even though the first one is my personal favourite. Toy Story 3, on the other hand....
+jihef03 On the other hand?
+AfroWarrior27 I'll tell when Doug will put the Toy Story 3 review on the channel.^^
jihefaitdesdessins I was more tramuatized by the fact that Jessie's original owner abandoned her. I wanted to hug her so much.
**hears When Somebody Loved Me in the background** TT-TT
Toy Story 2 is my personal favorite of the trilogy.
*Stinky Pete's name is literally on-screen*
Doug: He's named the Prospector.
I've always loved this movie. ^.^
This along with the Kung Fu Panda trilogy and How To Train Your Dragon trilogy are some of my favorite movies of all time.
This is my favorite of the Toy Story series. It's funny, suspenseful, full of great characters, and the animation is a step up from the previous film. However, I did hear an interesting rebuttal about this movie from a friend who prefers the third movie: whereas Toy Story 3 had more of a story, Toy Story 2 did not. True, the second movie didn't focus THAT much on the moral the way the other two movies did, but not only did it have a moral, it was brilliant and more unique. Woody's dilemma about going to the museum is actually engaging, in no small part because of how Jesse's backstory moves him (the song is a great one, agreed), and I do remember siding with him going to the museum. He feels less like Andy will continue to love him, and he also does not want to abandon his newfound family. (By the way, the movie does a great job in connecting him emotionally with Bullseye, Jessie, and Stinky Pete, even if it's done in a short amount of time.) Then Buzz reminds Woody of what he taught him, and this turns around Woody's opinion, again in a believable and relatable way. What we get is probably one of the best climaxes I've seen in a Disney film... up there with The Great Mouse Detective, Robin Hood, Lion King, and Beauty and the Beast.
In my opinion, not only the best of the series but one of my top five Pixar films.
I remeber hearing that song. I got pissed at myself crying and cracked of the wings of my Buzz toy. Then I cried more and actually singed my own lyrics about my broken Buzz toy.
What's interesting to note is that this wasn't only a good effortful sequel, it was one made on a VERY strict deadline of NINE MONTHS. It was originally going to be little more than a quick DTV project but when Disney liked the idea enough to make it theatrical, Pixar quickly decided to invest as much effort into it as possible in the same deadline.
sigh Doug, the prospector is named Stinky Pete
Wasn't he played by Kelsey Grammar?
Yup. Sideshow Bob himself!
Oh, now i'm sad for Jim Varny
+The Laughing Jack me too! TTmTT
I grew up watching toy story 1, toy story 2, Star Wars original trilogy unaltered and special edition, and Star Wars prequel trilogy multiple times
OF COURSE U USED THAT SONG FOR THE BACKGROUND MUSIC OF COURSE
Toy Story 2 is a great sequel and shows how to make sequel you continue the story don't rehash it!!! Gosh the whole Toy Story Trilogy just continually gets better.
Captain Jakemerica you think the third movie is the best?
Yes but I love the whole trilogy it's simply a great trilogy like The Lord of The Rings and the Captain America Trilogy and the Iron Man trilogy
And it is now gonna be a series of five films.
I grew up watching Toy Story 2 more than the original. Maybe that's why I'm not that fond of the first one...
And that song is still one of the best songs ever
in my opinion, toy story 2 > toy story 1 > toy story 3
lilsingingsensation mines is toy story 2 > toy story 3 > toy story 1
Toy Story 2 ≥ Toy Story 3 >Toy Story 1
Roei Potash AKA Poihpio if you can't stand opinions, sure
lilsingingsensation oesn't matter how they compare to each other theyre all great I'm very divided on toy story 4 on one hand it's toy story 4 and there has yet to be a bad toy story movie but on the other hand 3 ended the series perfectly maybe it'll be like kingdom of the crystal skull and everyone pretends it doesn't exist
What about Toy Story 4?
This was almost a direct to DVD film. The executives, however, saw the work put into it and were like "Hey, this looks pretty good! Let's raise the stakes a bit for the big screen." And unlike what they did with Planes, I say that's a great decision.
TOY STORY 2 WAS MY CHILDHOOD!
It feels like Toy Story 4 to an extant undermines what we got in Toy Story 2
"It's not only as good as the original, it's also better"
Pick one or the other, they're 2 completely different things.
That Sarah Mclachlan song destroyed me every time!
I think it’s safe to say that there will never ever be another movie like Toy Story 2
0:50 uh no, the plot really starts when Andy accidentally rips Woody's arm during a pre-camp departure playtime and starts to have a personal crisis, which actually works itself way into the main plot....oh yeah and this film starts a cliche trend that both Disney and Pixar would do (and I'm not talking about getting to the feels). I wish we knew what Bullseye's back story was.
This is one of the best sequels ever made. But in my opinion Toy Story 3 is even better thanks to the ending.
Great review. Toy Story 2 is my favorite Pixar movie.
It's one of my favorites too.
L
This movie is my favorite movie of all time! It's not the best movie ever made, but it's my favorite!
I agree. Toy story 2 was even more exciting to watch just the first.
True
Jessie's backstory ALWAYS makes me cry.
In french "the prospector" is named Papy Pepite (Grandpa Goldnugget), i think it's better
In swedish he's called guldgrävarn which is The gold digger in english.
I really love seen Toy Story 2 a lot when I was a 8 year old child since 2009
the climax of this film couldn't be anymore unrealistic but it's still one of my favourites
What a great movie. What got me most excited was the scene at the airport, because the idea of public transportation via planes/trains fascinated me as a kid.
Also, the video game for this movie is one of the best licensed games ever.
I still have my copy for the Nintendo 64. Fun game.
This was my favourite Disney movie back then for how awesome it was.
Slight correction: the miner is not named "The Prospector". His name is "Stinky Pete", but everyone just calls him Prospector.
You know what I noticed when I rewatched this movie a couple weeks ago? It sounds incredible.
Go back and watch it again, either on a surround system or with your best headphones. Paying attention to the sound was truly impressive, and it's yet another thing they did perfectly. Everything has a sound there, and it's loud and clear.
By the time this aired, Toy Story 2 was 10 years old. Everybody saw it. It's cool. You can say the Prospector is the main antagonist. Then again, maybe I shouldn't nitpick a video that's 8 years old xD
This is the first movie I remember watching in the theater. Glad my experience with movies started on a high note!
This is the best toy story movie ever
So true
i watched this movie soooooo much when i was little but now looking back this movie set me up for the rest of my life with the you will have to grow up part it set my mind up so when i got there i was all ready for it
My favorite scene is the one when the old man comes and fixes him up. I dunno if its because i wanted that machine he had as a kid or if it was because how good he looks in the end but i love it.
I have a soft spot for this movie. It wa the first I ever saw in theaters. I saw the first on a VHS my mom got as a baby shower gift and loved it and begged to see the sequel when I found out it had a sequel.
This was a solid film I enjoyed it very much. Jesse is one of my favorites because I know what it's like to get thrown to the side when someone is finished with you. Fantastic film.
Toy story 2 is my favorite in the series, toy story 3 is in second place, toy story 4 in third place, and toy story 1 in last place.
This is one of my all time favorite movies from my childhood.
one of my favourite classic animated movies and by Pixar and with a sad song
gonna see if you did one with the third one. the third one I find an amazing piece of art.
Easily my favorite pixar film. I can't have enough of it. I could probably watch on loop for a whole month and never get tired of it.
Toy story is such a great movie. I have a really hard time actually describing the emotions I get while watching this and the the first one. It's way more than just nostalgia.
This is such an amazing movie. I love it so much!
I've never actually seen the first one, and I had a collection of Disney movies on VHS, so this is the one that stuck with me. 3 and 4 are just milking the cash cow, to be honest.
TheGoldenAge2 But the god damned evil toy gang was just waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much.
You know what? At least it didn't have minions, I'll give it that. (I don't remember who made Despicable Me right now, but god I hate them for creating those living yellow pills.)
+Erik István Fejes if they're milking it then why does it take 11 yrs for 3 & 8 yrs for 4?
Wait, you hated 3?
@@Gorilla-r4g Yeah, it was lame.
@@MaxwellTornado how so? 4, I can understand since it didn’t need to exist.
Judging from his Disneycember reviews on the Toy Story franchise, it's not hard to deduce that the second one is his favourite. Hi5 Doug!!
Goddammit that song brings a tear to my eye ;-;
This is and always will be one of my favorite Pixar films
as a teenager who's toy story 2 is his childhood, I have to say, this movie makes me cry every time i see it, I just can't
Toy Story: one of the few movie sagas that get better with each sequel
Can't wait to hear Disneycember for Toy Story 3!
I thought he didn't like toy story 3 as much as 2
I hope we get a toy story 4 as long as it's just as good, if not better than the earlier ones!
+MoltenSword toy story 4 is coming apparently
Al was hilarious!
I personally love this movie because THIS was the Toy Story movie I grew up watching, I didn't even see the original till years later. But the fact that it's a sequel that made me love the characters and want to see more of them shows it's a sequel done right
I could hardly focus on what Dug was saying. That song... It's more than just a good song. It's an emotional sledgehammer. It may be one of the best movie songs ever. My god, it manages to be loving while just utterly devastating. Newman knocked it out of the park and round the world with that one.
No joke this is the first movie I cried watching when I was 5 my preschool/daycare showed it to the class and Jessys flashback with the song just broke me after a few seconds
Thank God!! Someone finds this even better than the first one!!! I was feeling so alone!!
This is my favorite movie ever. The first one is a bit dark when Sid comes Into the picture.
EMPEROR ZURG IS THE COOLEST LOOKING CHARACTER IN TOY STORY 2!! That ion blaster is one of the most memorable weapons ever!!
And later, there's the theory that Andy's mom is the original owner of Jessie
this is quite easily my favorite of the series
this movie was the first movie I've ever seen in a movie theater. to be granted I was a baby at the time so I didn't remember the experience I had in the theater. the earliest memory I had about going to see a movie in theaters was Spiderman. I think I fell asleep through half of it because I was a toddler and I could pay attention to the first half of it.
This was one of the best movies and reviews
True
Jessie's song is the saddest Pixar moment period
toy story 2 is my favorite movie of the toy story trilogy. Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 3 are great
This is my second favourite Pixar film.
Same my first one is Finding Nemo
Martin Hodges Mine is Coco
Is it really all that much better than the first one? It added new characters in a surprising way, but I think they did save a lot for the third one. It's why everybody loves it and why I love it the best. Jessie's moment was special, but it was the only emotional moment. The rest of it was a cleverer version of the older concepts of the predecessor. Granted that is why it's a great sequel that lives up, but I don't think it's in any way better.
You know I was in the car with my dad and we were listening to the toy story 2 soundtrack and then the song that makes me cry comes on and it's when she loved me I start to feel tears come down my cheek and then dad says are you crying and then I say no I'm not crying I'm not a baby then I burst into tears
