Just came back to OSRS and got the key, tried the boss with no guide and just a quick glance at gear setup. Got a kill but used almost all of my food, watched the guide and used 2 sharks next kill. Thanks for a well made guide!
Small tip. If you're a higher attack level, I'd say 85+ a DFS will be better than a dragon defender. They have non existent defence levels so using a dragon defender for the accuracy bonus won't help much.
This is why I scroll through comments on boss/quest/slayer guides before going ahead with whatever i'm doing. There's always someone with a pro-tip or two down here! :p

In order to see where the rocks are going to fall you can watch their shadows on the floor. You need to stand at least 2 squares away in order not to get damaged/stunned.

thanks for making this, i finally decided to do this boss only because of the amazing slayer experience it gives. i want to get to 85 as fast as possible so i can take a break from the slayer grind its been a real challenging month going from 20-82 slayer :P
Great guide! Don't want to trash on other guides for grotesques but I watched a different one before and I came away thinking "oh jeez this looks really hard" but after watching this one I feel like I will be able to take them on without even dying! Thanks bro! :)
EDIT: Got my first two kills ez pez! Was so worked up I even forgot to pot up on my first kill and forgot the purple healing orbs, still killed them only using like 3 anglers :D

Another tip. If you want longer trips but slower kills so you're not having to run back and forth to the bank a lot. Bring alch runes and guthans.

I'm quite late since that boss was released, but ain't it a reference of the gargoyle boss from Dark Souls? For me the reference is so clear but I've never heard anyone talk about it.
Not confirmed, but probably inspired by. Also note how the last phase is kinda similar to the ornstein and smough fight

never ever use karils. that's just a no-no. it doesn't worth it, and it lacks the prayer bonus too
Hey, the karils has repair costs and doesn't give prayer bonus like the god d'hide does. you can try with both but i personally preer the god top
why is that a no no? sometimes the magic def(obviously not here cuz theres no magic) is better than the very small +1 prayer bonus
some thing you just let go after maturing bro, just let it go... lol. Karil obviously needs a buff
better melee defence, only a slightly lower ranged defence, and blessed has prayer bonus

I got to the last gargoyle (the melee after it absorbed the range) and I got destroyed. Protect from Range and Protect from Melee didn't block anything. Did I do something wrong?
That is the hardest part where you receive most damage, i haven't done the boss in a long time and this guide is pretty old so it might be worth going on the wiki to research the last phase. From memory i think sticking to either range pray or mage pray during the entire final fight kinda works but you still take damage.

would it be better to use bludgeon instead of whip?
I don't think so - people used the bludgeon when the boss first released and eventually changed to the whip. They have such low defence that speed on the weapon matters most (i think)
bludgeon and whip have the same attack speeds
remember a rock hammer
or a throwing rockhammer to make it a bit easier :D
Hello i am new player to runescape and followed your guide for beginners on old runescape, i am wondering where can i go and level up defence ??
you can level defence on any monster you fight as long as you use melee and have the defensive attack style on. Check the attack styles tab (the two swords crossed) and hover over each one to find out which style gives defence xp.

slayed for almost 20 hours to get a total of 2 gargoyle tasks, finally got the key after a total of around 350 gargoyle kills. Hope this helps anyone wanted data about the brittle key.
to update on what this guy said, it took me 4 extended tasks and about 705 kills before my brittle key drop. Started to worry if i was doing something wrong, just bad rng, cheers

why bring that many restores if you didnt need them? you didnt even use the sara brews you recommended. seems like food would be much much better than a bunch of shit you dont need

how the fuck do you get more than one kill a trip???
i have blowpipe, 80+ in all melee and range stats and my setup is a combo of both high end and budget setups (blowpipe, whip, fire cape, fury ammy, veracs skirt, sara hide top, drag defender, drag gloves, blessing, 4 restores, 2 brews, and the rest sharks) Im able to properly trap Dusk (melee garg) no problem and use correct prayers for each phase but still manage to use most, if not all sharks by the end of the kill and forced to tele after each completed kill :/
Try potting up + using a crystal halberd. If you're dodging all the lasers, you shouldn't use more than 3 sharks a kill (on average).

you never mentioned the spheres that you have to absorb otherwise it'll heal the gargoyle..
