Anyone who has ever attempted to play any musical instrument can appreciate the world-class level of talent on this performance, including Alison on the fiddie. Jerry Douglas is simply incredible. And Dan Tyminski's ability to run up and down the scale with his voice is natural and effortless, yet special all at the same time.
Mr Douglas is Beyond! I don’t believe you tried in vain for the chillins’ u raised! I found the Allison krauss CD in a Starbucks n was changed forever! I appreciate ur talent!
Simply one of the greatest bluegrass bands of all time. The talent they assembled is just astonishing. If they ever send send out another Voyager mission I believe a selection from Alisson Krauss & Union Station should be on the golden record.
If you want real artistry in music be it country, rock, jazz or whatever, you have to look for it. The world is pop...bad pre-produced, focus group made pop. It sucks.
I wish I could see them. Notice how with this much talent and skill they don't have to run back and change outfits several times to keep it interesting. No special effects. Just real music.
Alison Krauss and Union Station are the best bluegrass band that I have ever heard and Ralph Stanley is right up there with them.....Bluegrass can't be beat...
I have told people this for years and they don't believe it, that is, until they actually see them in person. The best live band by far, BAR NONE. They re like one unit. It's amazing just how they jell. No one else does it this well and I've seen some of everyone. And to think, that I was introduced to them by accident. a friend had two tickets and invited me to go. I'm so glad I did. That was back in 1995 and been a fan ever since.
You must not have seen Billy Strings, lol. Union Station is great, but they’re not touring anymore. Billy and his band are as tight as it gets and are pushing the boundaries of both traditional and modern bluegrass like no one else.
@@clayblankenship3650 actually, I have seen Billy and his band and they're wonderful as well. Must be a thing with bluegrass. Expertise at another level. All other musicians take note .
ben gibson Yes they are. James Taylor introduced Jerry Douglass on the Eric Claptons Crossroads concert when he backed up JT on dobro the Jimi Hendrix on dobro. I thought that was a cool intro.
What I really Love about this, aside from the Magnificent performance of Everyone on stage, is the Fact that there are No Drums. All of the percussion is provided by the Strings. Love It. Love Everything about this performance. QUALITY HIGH CLASS Performance.
I'm from the U.K and most people over here just don't get country. I grew up listening to Tanya Tucker, Glen Campbell and Tammy Wynette thanks to my mum's love of it....and THANK GOD I did! Just LOVE country, especially this kind of bluegrass picking style...proper musicians!!!!!
I have the pleasure and distinct privilege of listening to this group of world class performers live at the finest musical venue near to my home town. This video is a fine recording of the excellence in music that Alison Krause, Jerry Douglas, Dan Tominski, Ron Block and Barry Bales bring to our world every day. Words don't do them justice. They are indeed awesome!
What gets me is as good as this video, Alison Kraus and Union Station Live is, they put this to shame when you are actually in a theatre watching them. I've seen them many times in person and I can tell you, there is NO band that's better live. NO BAND AND I MEAN EVERYONE and Ive seem many over the years, some of the greatest and they simply pale in comparison to this band when they play live. Can't wait until they decide to tour again. Alison has been doing her own thing with Robert Plant and they've made some great music but it's time for another AKUS record and tour.
There aren’t many live performances that can stand up to this one. Not enough words to describe the mastery occurring not only on stage but also give the sound guy a RAISE
They have a way of making 5 players sound like 10. Great harmony, great picking and Barry forgotten on bass is the glue. His timing is impeccable; a highly polished outfit, this. I had the privilege of seeing them live back around 94-95 and their sound was 100% as true and perfect as it is here.
Damn right. NO ONE can beat Jerry Douglas. Listen to the song "We Play Hide and Seek" off of Jerry Douglas's "Slide Rule" album. BEST dobro I have EVER heard
This would be a good black screen opening for a movie. The boy sneaks on a train at night and wakes up in a tunnel. When the music picks up the beautiful smokey mountains appear as his open car exits the tunnel. The boy is amazed by the beauty.
This is probably the most comprehensive use of every available bluegrass instrument on this song,Dan tyminsky can play it with just his guitar and it's awesome but this is too notch
These artists are truly amazing. In a time where people take what other musicians create and turn it into “songs”, I look at a performance like this and I am blown away by REAL musicianship
When something sounds too good to be true, it might just be true, anyway. These folks are the real deal, the top of the line in their craft, excelling in their talents. No fakery, no electronic alterations. Hear them in person.
Folks I appreciate your love, and I too LOVE this Beautiful HEARTFELT music. But it's NOT Country music. It's, it's own genre, Bluegrass or some call it Mountain music. ABSOLUTELY Beautiful! Country music is Beautiful as well!! My people are Cherokee and Walsh/Scotch Irish from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. 💖🎶💖🎶
Jerry -Who ??? The master my friend no other will ever surpass this mans ability I am totally amazed as an older dobro player in a country band i have a love for a legend
Dan Tyminski looks like 'Frank' from American Pickers in the clip but actually is a proper world class picker...... This jam soothes my soul..... Lap steel is so haunting.... Best from Australia!
Oh how I love to hear them play this incredible piece of music. So sweet yet the song is about how harsh survival was in Appalachia long before the depression. The people who came from that time always stay fresh on my mind. Their strength built a great Nation for a time.
Sadly, Today's "country" has almost Completely been run into a ditch and left for dead. Other than Union Station of course who are simply superb....I'm not an algorithm but perhaps check out "The Peterson's", and "Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra"...an incredible bluegrass group from NORWAY!!! Rebekka Nilson is just a completely Brilliant vocalist; reminiscent of and on par with Alyson. God Bless and Happy New Year.
When I sit down to enjoy some good music (mostly Bluegrass) this is always included in my line-up. I have been listening to this and many other Union Station songs for many years'. Im not American but was born to love Bluegrass. I agree with another comment that their talent and coordination of the instruments makes it so exciting to listen to. World Class!!
Amazing. It sounds like pieces that he's been saving for ages. It's one of those riffs you play for years alone; never done, but forever evolving. It feels to me the song they play is several separate songs but formed around his dobro and blended into a masterpiece of awesome.
Bluegrass is the most heartfelt and powerful music. Just listen to a Bluegrass station on Sat radio or in general..It tells the story of love heartbreak and movin on....
It just don’t get any better than what this band can do to think Alison don’t really sing much Dan is one hell of a talented musician and you cannot bear Jerry and his awesome playing what a band
I actually came here from Hayde Bluegrass Orchestra. A Norwegian Bluegrass group. Try Their Red Box Concert. I can't believe I have never heard Jerry Douglass play this fantastic Dobro piece. RUclips's algorithms can sure led one down some unexpected roads. P.S, the rest of Union station are hot on this, also.
The music stylings of Alison and union station , along with some of the old favorites, like Skaggs, Bill, and the country gentlemen is what inspires me as a musician. Bluegrass as a genre, can not be done anyway but " raw" you hear some of the big names in country music belting bluegrass out. Brad Paisley, ( you'll never leave Harland alive) Travis Tritt (Georgia rose) to name a few. If you can play and sing bluegrass, than you've earned my respect.

This is one the most difficult and the most flawless live performances there has ever been. Incredibly underrated.
Absolutely!!
Absolutely flawless.
Practice Practice Practice.!!
Jerry Douglas for President.

Great comment Kpadg314.. Could not have said it better.
the best of the best. don't get no better.only if Tony was in there. you know who I mean.
This what needs to be blaring on peoples radios
kpadg314 Friend you said a mouthful. You are so right.
kpadg314 no Ron Block mention shame.
Weapons grade musical talent.
Even if you aren't a Bluegrass fan, how can you not like this?
Exactly. Another one for nuclear grade bluegrass is Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder.
Mr Douglas is Beyond! I don’t believe you tried in vain for the chillins’ u raised! I found the Allison krauss CD in a Starbucks n was changed forever! I appreciate ur talent!

Such an awesome performance! This trumps the so-called "country" that abounds on the radio today.
it sucks they dont play real country in the radio. keep an eye out for some am stations we get some bluegrass here in Idaho playing on A.M.
Country today is garbage. They are trying to combine all the genres into one and it has very little to do with money...
this performance trumps nearly any other performance ever.
Love love LOVE xxx
If you want real artistry in music be it country, rock, jazz or whatever, you have to look for it. The world is pop...bad pre-produced, focus group made pop. It sucks.
I'm from the Netherlands, what do I know about bluegrass music?? But I feel this is having impact!! Very nice revelation for this dutchie!
Del McCoury and his boys are magnificent. They are as good as anybody.
@@jamesbowen8960 they are good and great but I bet even they would yield the floor to Alison krauss and union station
Yeah.Ralph Stanley& The Seldom Scene.
Rhonda Vincent and the Rage are great too.

One of the GREATEST bands the WORLD has ever seen
I wish my father was still alive to hear this.
who would dare dislike this song ?
Words really can't describe how good this is.
I've got one word for how good this is ... " AWESOMENESS " !!
... CAUSE IT´S BLUEGRASS RATHER THAN COUNTRY ...
Amen!!
Simply beautiful!
Dan Tymynski, and Jerry Duglass are insanely talented pickers, This group is fantastic every album every song
please don't forget Mr. Ron block. Could front any bluegrass band anywhere anytime.
ben gibson Yes they are. James Taylor introduced Jerry Douglass on the Eric Claptons Crossroads concert when he backed up JT on dobro the Jimi Hendrix on dobro. I thought that was a cool intro.
Jim Chumley - I've heard it said that if clapton is God, then JD is the Holy Ghost. I have to agree!
Dont forget Ron Block.
@@papa-ql3xb yeah but everyone falls asleep at least once watching clapton perform.
No one sleeps when any of these lot play.

Everything Alison Krauss does is so beautiful, it almost pushes the rest of the band to work harder. They all know it and put in that little extra.
Dan has the most amzing voice. Him and Alison on stage... Melt your ears!
The two of them singing together is always amazing.
There aren’t many live performances that can stand up to this one. Not enough words to describe the mastery occurring not only on stage but also give the sound guy a RAISE
They are the Led Zeppelin of bluegrass. All the best musicians of their genre together to make the best bluegrass there is.
They have a way of making 5 players sound like 10. Great harmony, great picking and Barry forgotten on bass is the glue. His timing is impeccable; a highly polished outfit, this. I had the privilege of seeing them live back around 94-95 and their sound was 100% as true and perfect as it is here.
Best dam dobro player in the world!
Damn right. NO ONE can beat Jerry Douglas. Listen to the song "We Play Hide and Seek" off of Jerry Douglas's "Slide Rule" album. BEST dobro I have EVER heard
Amen
"Single I am and will remain. A lazy man I won't maintain" Best line I have ever heard in a song. This is one of my all-time favorite songs.
25-years-of-playin here: This is amazing. Stumbled upon it. Instant spot in the top 10 Intros ever.
I get home after work and work around the homestead.when I get to listening to this music.I end up with a hangover the next morning!
I saw them twice in concert in Oregon. Unforgettable
Alison is not only a master of the fiddle, but those vocals the way she moves around that mic to get the sound and volume changes is to me perfection.
This would be a good black screen opening for a movie. The boy sneaks on a train at night and wakes up in a tunnel. When the music picks up the beautiful smokey mountains appear as his open car exits the tunnel. The boy is amazed by the beauty.

This mashup was crazy. I loose my mind when Union Station plays. Allison is incredible as well as the others.
You could've heard a pin drop, during Jerry's dobro intro.......probably because everyone's jaw was on the floor!! Awesome playing, from the master!
When they start harmonizing towards the end I get goosebumps.
My dad loved bluegrass , would have loved these, rest his soul .
🌹😥🙏

Bluegrass and Ol'Timey Music. This band is a national treasure and an absolute treasure to listen to.
