Bob says "I would have made a better deal if I thought it'd be rerunning in 1988" It's still rerunning in 2014 and more people watch it now than ever !
buzz lightyear Good 'ole hindsight! I think that a lot of these stars deserved to have someone in power or ownership to the rights of the show, give them something, because after all, they made the show what it is, and the current people in charge or ownership of the show rich, the actors deserved a nice gesture, as I certainly would have given them a very nice bonus!!!!!

I was at a large business convention years ago among a sea of boring suits everywhere. I was told the 'skipper' was at a corporate booth. Excited, I set off for that booth, along the way like a beacon of light among the suits I saw the skipper's hat, he was taller than the suits, I got closer and it was the skipper himself walking. I stood in awe, a loved TV character come to life before my eyes. He was looking down, looking tired as he passed. If he only knew the joy he brought to me in that brief moment among the sea of boring suits. Thank you Alan 'Skipper' Hale, you brought joy & laughter to us all :)
I must tell you years ago after getting out of High School I wanted to go to California and did, when I got to Los Angeles I asked around and found that Alan Hale Jr. owned a restaurant called The Lobster Barrel.I went down there and walked in and was shocked there at the corner of the inside stood Alan Hale Jr. I wnet over and told him I was from New Jersey and he said he had spent time in Fort Dix in New Jersey. We talk for almost two hours and I got pictures with him and he gave me his Cap.
that's so cool I hope you still have it. He seems like a real sweetheart like the guy you don't want angry of course but if you get him on his good side he'll treat you well.
Ali S He was just a nice man.one of the great things that happened to me and going to walk in front of Lucille Balls house and Jack Benny who lived nexr to her was out on his lawn. All the real stars are gone now.
This was the ONLY reunion of the original seven castaways/castmembers. Jim Backus, Alan Hale, and Natalie Shafer passed away in 1989, 1990, & 1991 respectively, right after this.. Thank god for us fans it happened.
Not true. The entire cast reunited a few years b4 this on a TV news show with Kathie Lee Gifford. If u go on RUclips u can check it out. Guessing it was in the early ‘80s
Such good memories I have of this show. and t's nice after 40 odd years to finally get to know a little about the people behind the characters of Gilligan's Island.
I don't remember Ross Shafer but I do remember seeing this. It was so great to finally see all of them together again. Used to watch the episodes when it first aired as a kid when I was trying to learn English, my favorites being with a Japanese sailor. Still a fan. XD
Just finished watching every episode of Gillian’s Island. It was great to see them all together. Wish Ginger was on the reunion movies, and now she’s the only living cast member.
I was thinking about throwing in a few real-life people in the Gilligan's Planet comic book series. That's the people who were high school dropouts. Richard Baynard, Brock Davenport, Chris Sefloogue, and Mike Engstrom were all students who found no value in education. I've included the AMW (America's Most Wanted) fugitive Nova Guthrie to be part of the deal. Did you notice that it's very rare for a teenage girl ever to be a high school dropout? I'm not kidding you. It really is. Should Willie Gilligan teach them a lesson or 2 that it's wrong to drop out of high school? 🏫
Well it's a really good thing they did this when they did. Jim Backus died the next year in 1989, Alan Hale followed a year later in 1990, and then Natalie Schafer in 1991. Three cast members lost in the three years after this reunion. I really do miss them all.
I had the pleasure of meeting Alan Hale at about this same time at the Knoxville Convention Center. I was about 19 at the time. It's funny that I just now put 2+2 together but it was at a car show. He must have been there promoting his additive product. I don't remember. I do remember talking with him briefly and he was the Skipper. Just as nice and accommodating as you would expect. I was honored. Gilligan's Island was my childhood and it brought me so much pleasure and laughter. Hands down my favorite show of all time.
Read somewhere that whoever was casting (maybe Sherwood) had a hard time finding "Skipper" and was eating dinner in a restaurant and heard a loud guy in the other room laughing. Discovered Hale telling jokes and knew THAT was the guy.
Thanks so much for posting! I recently read up on the show and the info was conflicting as to whether the entire original cast ever did one of these reunion interview shows. I watched all four parts and glad they all appeared at least once together after the show left the air.
Alan Hale's story about how he got from Utah to LA sounds so similar to that of Ernie Borgnine's trip to try out for Marty.... I still remember meeting the Skipper in 1980 at his Lobster Barrel...and man the gentleman treated this 10 year old fan like I was his own grandson...what a true treasure!
A more wonderful guy there could not have been than Alan Hale Jr..I keep the hat under a glass enclosure with the picture of us together and everyone loves seeing it.
Ross Shafer was a Seattle TV personality, known for a very funny local comedy show called Almost Live. That show often deserved to be seen by a wider audience, though it was actually better after Ross Shafer left. It was also a very early gig for Joel McHale of "community".
I saw Steppenwolf and Three Dog Night at the Puyallup Fair back in 1984, and between the two bands, Ross Shafer did a short standup routine between them, wearing a pink sweater. Short, because everyone booed, cussed at him, threw him the finger and chanted for him to get off the stage.
Ross Shafer? R.I.P Bob Denver. I think it's cool that he never hated the character that made him famous--the way a lot of actors do. He even wore the hat.
Alan Hale, Jr. (the Skipper) looks and sounds just like his dad! Go catch some of his father's work in those old Warner Bros. movies from the 40s. So much resemblance in physical features and voice. Some really jolly family!
for some reason i remember another gilligan's island cast reunion back in early 1982...i just remember bob denver and alan hale jr wisecracking about the ideas behind the series...
Host: did you think it was strange, didn't you think it was very odd. Host: The Professor could make a Tela cummunication Satellite out of a Clam shell. Host: but he couldn't build a raft that would float.
Excellent. I remember watching this when it aired so long ago. Who can forget Jim and Tammy Faye? What pair of ripoff artists. Thanks so much for posting this though. I loved Gilligan's Island and this is the final time every cast member was together after the show ended. Great seeing them all again.
Bob Denver must have been in his late fifties when they did this reunion special. I will always remember him as a young man. I still haven't bought the second and third seasons on DVD yet.
Well known in the Seattle area, he is the guy who created the Almost Live! comedy show that, despite the many local references, was picked up nationally via syndication. I remember him also hosting a local (Seattle) music show called REV, when John Keister wasn't doing it.
+Steven Painter I didn't realize they were based on them - so sad to watch Gilligan's Island with so many of the cast gone. I know they all died at different times through the years but each one passing makes it worse.
the most ironic thing about the reunion, is Gilligan's Island was a CBS sitcom, and they did a reunion on a Fox Network's attempt at a NBC's Tonight Show
There was a reunion around 1982 with Kathie Lee filmed in New York. All of them were there with the exception of Jim Backus who was seen by video as he was in Hollywood filming a movie.
Ikr. Or when they say "He could build a radio out of coconuts." He never did that! They already had a working radio! LOL! He did build a raft, but it got eaten by sharks as soon as Skipper and Gilligan went out on it. That was totally in episode 2 :)

I'm watching on the day Mary Ann, Dawn Wells passed away in December 2020... 2 days before 2021.
Feb. 2021. I still love the show
I was at a large business convention years ago among a sea of boring suits everywhere. I was told the 'skipper' was at a corporate booth. I couldn't help but smile really big when Aaln Hale walked out.
Alan Hale Jr. who looked like a spitting image of his dad!
His Dad the Sr. was also an actor.
We talk for almost two hours and I got pictures with him and he gave me his Cap.

loved Gilligan's Island...great chemistry, goofy, funny show, imaginative and entertaining. I sure miss these people...grew up with them.
I miss Gilligan’s Island I miss them RIP to all the we lost and thanks for all the memories
Just imagine if anyone ever saw Bob Denver's ghost. It would be pretty funny if anyone ever did.
Alan hale was the kindest, most decent man. RIP Alan..You done good.
+Austin Young I agree.Great man.
+Austin Young He really seemed like such a nice guy.

I love Gilligan's Island.
Thanks for posting this.

Just finished watching every episode of Gillian’s Island. It was great to see them all together. Wish Ginger was on the reunion movies, and now she’s the only living cast member.
Alan Hale was such a wonderfully sweet man. I love them all! RIP Alan, Bob, Jim and Natalie.
Gilligan should have had a 20-year run.
I was thinking about throwing in a few real-life people in the Gilligan's Planet comic book series. That's the people who were high school dropouts. Sad, so glad they all got together for this
My 7 year old nephew and 9 year old niece love this show in the year of 2011.
I had the pleasure of meeting Alan Hale at about this same time at the Knoxville Convention Center. I was about 19 at the time. It's funny that I just now put 2+2 together but it was at a car show. THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!
Back when reunion shows mattered.
I'm 14 and I LOVE this show. I've seen every episode at least three times. I wish I could have seen it when they were airing new episodes.
Who in the good name of youtube is Ross Shafer???!!!
The undisputed KING of Late Night television in the 80's!
Thank you for this great posting.
It Just So Magical. The Room Would Sparkle When These People Were In The Room. We Will NEVER See Their Like Again. RIP To Them.
Thanks so much for posting! I recently read up on the show and the info was conflicting as to whether the entire original cast ever did one of these reunion interview shows. I watched all four parts and glad they all appeared at least once together after the show left the air.
Found memories growing up in 70'-80's with shows like this.
the greatest comedy of all time
Miss them so much
Awesome interview! I was unaware of this interview taking place; thank you for sharing it.
This reunion show is as far in the past from today (22 years) as the original series was from when this taped. Time flies...
A more wonderful guy there could not have been than Alan Hale Jr..I keep the hat under a glass enclosure with the picture of us together and everyone loves seeing it.
Wow this was the year i was born i used to watch gilligans island when i was a kid i loved it i wish it was still on T.V.
What a great interview...they all seem like such wonderful folks...
Yes I agree
Wow. Even Ginger is here!
I always loved the way Alan embraced the Skipper character.
When America was great!

2021 I’m still watching 💕
I love those guys. Shill watch them 2 hrs every night on tvland.
Bob Denver has always been so cool especially starting off with Dobie Gillis.
"I would've made a bigger deal of it if I knew there would be reruns in 1988"
And here in we are in 2011, and its STILL popular.
Hi my name is 17Watman, I'm 18 years old and Gilligan's Island is my number 1 favorite show in the universe!!
Rest in peace Bob Denver, Alan Hale,Jr., Jim Backus, and Natalie Schafer :)
Alan Hale, Jr. was a gentleman right to the end. A class act, an Oliver Hardy, he was a great man. Gone a little too soon (just 68).
"I think I would have asked for a better deal if I'd known they'd still be rerunning it till 1988" still strong in 2021.
I remember that episode. One of my favorites :)
What memories of the show. I don't believe that I missed a single show
I have got all the seasons and movies and I absolutely love this show 😍😍😍❤❤❤
I'm a huge fan I watch it every day 24-7 I wish I could we gillagin my self

Here'smy impression of the Skipper: "BOOOP!!"
i miss this show so bad
This was a fantastic cast.
Ross Shafer? R.I.P Bob Denver. I think it's cool that he never hated the character that made him famous--the way a lot of actors do. He even wore the hat.
Good interview
The 70-80's had the greatest stuff. Much better that that stuff kids watch today.
I never knew this show existed , guess I was busy that decade .
Alan Hale, Jr. (the Skipper) looks and sounds just like his dad! Go catch some of his father's work in those old Warner Bros. movies from the 40s. So much resemblance in physical features and voice. Some really jolly family!
Loved Gilligan's Island...
Alan Hale was really like this all the time. One of the most fun-loving human beings ever to grace Hollywood.
for some reason i remember another gilligan's island cast reunion back in early 1982...i just remember bob denver and alan hale jr wisecracking about the ideas behind the series...

I agree! Even the 60's had some great stuff like Gilligan's Island. ;-)
Sherwood Schwartz, the creator of Gilligan's Island, passed away this month on the 12th. RIP Sherwood Schwartz.
WOW talk about memories:) when the reunion was on i was 22 years old loooooooooovvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeedddddddddddd the show BIG TIME

The skipper kicked ass brave and sure in real life till the end

I remember him also hosting a local (Seattle) music show called REV, when John Keister wasn't doing it.
Seeing these actors, my response is similar to Gandalf's...
"You haven't aged a day."
-Beau Ch.
God love em all. Only three are with us now Russel Johnson, Tina, and Dawn
wow, that was the longest shill for a product ever. real classy.
holy shite
Alan Hale looked EXACTLY the same after 25 years
when you see Gilligan and the Skipper, a little of Laurel and Hardy come to mind
Glenn Marshall Exactly!
elvicare35 I just answered "exactly" again, and saw that I already had before, I thought that I was suffering from double vision!!! lol
elvicare35 I just answered "exactly" again, and saw that I already had before, I thought that I was suffering from double vision!!! lol
They were based on Laurel and hardy that's a good catch by you, because it's actually the truth
+Steven Painter I didn't realize they were based on them - so sad to watch Gilligan's Island with so many of the cast gone. I know they all died at different times through the years but each one passing makes it worse.
great seeing bob denver again...he was a nice guy...
the most ironic thing about the reunion, is Gilligan's Island was a CBS sitcom, and they did a reunion on a Fox Network's attempt at a NBC's Tonight Show
Alan also had a small Role on Batman (The Ogg and I) He was the Deli manager and his name was Gilligan
Love this
God Bless Bob and Alan.
I miss all of them the only ones still alive are Mary Ann and ginger
The only time the entire original cast appeared together.
There was a reunion around 1982 with Kathie Lee filmed in New York. All of them were there with the exception of Jim Backus who was seen by video as he was in Hollywood filming a movie.
I did see that on youtube. Another rarity.
Love the Skipper!
Ikr. Or when they say "He could build a radio out of coconuts." He never did that! They already had a working radio! LOL!
He did build a raft, but it got eaten by sharks as soon as Skipper and Gilligan went out on it. That was totally in episode 2 :)
The Skipper rocked
