Intentional or no, the first zombie encounter is a reverse of the RE1 zombie encounter. Instead of walking up on baldie breaking open Kenneth's neck and seeing his lifeless expression as he looks over his shoulder at you, the first zombie walks up on Ark Thompson inspecting a dead man and looking over his shoulder.
I mean so is re 2 Leon opening scene. Leon invested a unreanimated zombie only to get surprised by zombies and then bonus the zombie he was checking also comes back. As cheese as re2 can be I think it nails its opening way more the 2make
When you think about it, ark is the strongest RE protag, wakes up with amnesia, with a handgun and proceeds to defeat countless tyrants without injury or problem.

that's a CT scan, If you have metal implants you can get a CT scan where an MRI is contraindicated. This game was the first I played of the entire series.. good memories!
I used to rent this game from Blockbuster back in the day. Because you couldn't save progress, I was never able to beat it. Watching you complete the game so gracefully was cathartic.
There are two things about RE Survivor that would make for a good remake. 1) The Umbrella facility's purpose is to make Tyrants. Imagine multiple Tyrants with different abilities pursuing you through the city. 2) Vincent Goldman is so laughably evil that he circles back around to being cool. He causes an outbreak that kills thousands... to cover up that he falsified some paperwork so he would get a promotion. Even freaking DEREK SIMMONS isn't that stupid!
MRI's have very strong magnets. I had a tech demonstrate what it was with my locker key. At 5 feet I could feel the key wiggling and heating up in my hand.
Scenario: Zombie apocalypse. Man jumps out of a building to escape from zombies. Bruises leg on landing. Average man: IM ALIIIIIVE! Carci: Damn not good enough, here we go again... *Re-enters building*

This was one of the many games that I only got to see in Expert Gamer magazines. My local rental store didn't have this title, along with an array of others. This is the first time I am seeing actual gameplay. I thought this game came with a light gun on the PS? Which reminds me of the Silent Scope game that came with the gun and functioning screen scope. I only ever saw that in an Expert Gamer magazine too, haha.
The Japanese and PAL versions support a lightgun, while it got removed from the ntsc version cause of a shooting I think. There's a patch that can remedy that tho.
Zombies in this game can die in a few several shots if you aim at their jaw or neck, not just the forehead. Handgun D works brilliantly as well, it makes a quick work out of 'em. Also some of the voice actors are from that show Iron Chef (Japan) 1993 - 2002 + Shenmue which they dubbed voice over characters, judges, staffs, etc, pretty shitting voice acting. Man Carci videos are probably my favorite thing to see uploaded now days. Not only do I enjoy watching him flawlessly run through a game with such ease, but they make such good videos to sleep to because his commentary is 👌👌 I've watched his RE2 remakes more times than I can count at this point. Your videos really helped me through a super rough time earlier in the year where I had bronchitis so bad I was bedridden for weeks. I would have gone mad without these long videos to relax and watch.

Honestly, I kinda love this game. Yeah it's janky AF, the voice acting is REALLY bad (hilariously so), and hit detection is sus, but I love seeing the OG 3-D models up close. As a kid, this is the one RE game that eluded me until recently too--I finally got it for my PS1 and enjoyed it for what it is. Great play through!

This is the first game where I encounter a licker who will actually run away from me after I equipped a rocket launcher from a handgun. I know Mr. X will actually walk away in the RE2 remake when player equip rocket launcher.
no, Mr. X doesn’t run away from rockets. the guy who made that video hacked the game and went to a place where X’s pathing would have led him to a dead end; there was a gap in the shelves in the library he didn’t pan down toward.
Weird fact about how powerful a modern MRI machine is for you, Carci. Some people with red tattoos that were done before the year 1965 may actually not be able to have an MRI. That's because some red pigments were made using iron, and theoretically a brand new MRI can rip anything ferrous right out of the human body. As an xray tech, I used to do xrays of the eye sockets before anyone had an MRI (previous injuries or history of metal work).
Thanks for the run Carci, it's nice to see runs of RE games I've never played. Was worth seeing even if it has its problems. Does the game reload for you sometimes on door transitions? Sometimes it seemed like you would go through a door and the handgun would be reloaded after and sometimes it wouldn't be.
yeah for handguns it automatically reloads when you go through doors forgot to mention that. i was also a little high when i recorded the commentary (cbd cigarette actually fucked me up even though it wasn’t supposed to)
Nah, it's pretty atrocious. While the earlier RE main games had a lot of laughable voice acting (and very memeable), they had a lot of redeemable qualities that made them at the very least good games. This is just a monotonous, incredibly repetitive game with hardly any redeemable quality.
I managed to snag this at a retro game store a few days ago. It's a schlock-fest but these no damage runs have made it grow on me and I kind of love it

Thanks for the tips! Been trying to S Rank this game for awhile and even with a time under an hour and enemy count over 120 I was still getting A Rank. I had no idea about using a flame round at that hypnos Tyrant's feet in the initial encounter (always took a hit there) nor the trick to make the sweepers disappear at the end. Next time I play I'll try out these tips.
*sigh* Another A rank. Ended with 1hr 11minutes, 91% hit avg, 131 monsters, 0 continues and only healed once with a green herb. Dang, Survivor is hardcore.
Update! Sooo... apparently I've been using a save file from Easy mode this whole time. Made sure to try it on Normal mode this time and finally got S Rank!
I know I am 2 years late to this but couldn’t help but noticed you made a comment about the MRI machine at 11:35 So the key wouldn’t destroy the MRI machine per say, but it would be incredibly expensive to remove it because you would have to reverse the polarity of the magnetic field of the MRI machine and then recharge it after removing the key. Being that you would HAVE to reverse the polarity, Ark must have super strength because regardless if the machine is turned off or not that mfer would be impossible to remove with your hands. So yeah.

Never thought Leon sent his personal friend Ark to be sent to Sheena Island for investigation to eliminate all creatures, including bunch of Mr X, rescue any survivors as well, oh i forgot to mention is Andy, leader of black troops and commander vincent, however only one path at a time to have one of them died
When you say this game is almost impossible to get no damage playthrough, I agreed on that. Not because Hunter, Mr. X, zombie dogs, crows, spiders, or even the last boss. It was the masked soldiers from umbrella with their submachine gun, it's hard to avoid getting hit by them, especialy when you about activate the train near the end of game before you fight last boss. It's so many of them and they keep spawning everywhere, and they even shot you from above and some of them block your way to the train's door sometimes. Man, I still play this game till now when I want play a Resident Evil game for short time, yeah, it can be done in just around 1,5 hours or less. And yes, I love it when you chose to go in hospital path for getting those Handgun B, it was a good weapon because its speed, I use that a lot for killing Mr. X and it make the game easier for the next game run, the only bad thing about this gun is the reload's time, but its not a big deal. Another nice playthrough you've done here dude. 👍

The lack of a save or suspend function is one of the biggest reasons I haven't played through it yet. A first playthrough won't be only an hour and a half, so you gotta really commit to this game.
Great run, Carci! I still haven't played this one through due to the lack of a save/suspend feature (I have a hard time finding the time to commit to a full playthrough), but it's cool watching a NS/ND run of this! It's also wild to look at this game and think back to the development of the original RE. They wanted fully-rendered backgrounds in that, but it would force them to only have a maximum of 1 enemy per room, so they went with pre-rendered to save on memory. This game has fully-rendered backgrounds and has like 4 zombies in a single room. It's just kinda crazy to me how much developers learn about the hardware they're using as time goes on (I realize TOSE made this and not Capcom, but you get what I mean). That being said, this game is UGLY.

Yeah take a while to get your memory back after having amnesia. Kinda surprising your default handgun have unlimited ammos.

not completely true. yes most enemy attacks won’t start up, yes some attacks will miss entirely, but Tyrants and Zombies can still hit you

it was, in China. That port was really bad, competent programmers say it's unsalvageable. your best bet is emulation via Duckstation.

When you say this game is almost impossible to get no damage playthrough, I agreed on that. Not because Hunter, Mr. X, zombie dogs, crows, spiders, or even the last boss. It was the masked soldiers from umbrella with their submachine gun, it's hard to avoid getting hit by them, especialy when you about activate the train near the end of game before you fight last boss. It's so many of them and they keep spawning everywhere, and they even shot you from above and some of them block your way to the train's door sometimes.
Man, I still play this game till now when I want play a Resident Evil game for short time, yeah, it can be done in just around 1,5 hours or less.
And yes, I love it when you chose to go in hospital path for getting those Handgun B, it was a good weapon because its speed, I use that a lot for killing Mr. X and it make the game easier for the next game run, the only bad thing about this gun is the reload's time, but its not a big deal.

This game is honestly better than some people make it out to be. My only real criticism of it is that I think it needs a suspended feature
The lack of a save or suspend function is one of the biggest reasons I haven't played through it yet. A first playthrough won't be only an hour and a half, so you gotta really commit to this game.

Great run, Carci! I still haven't played this one through due to the lack of a save/suspend feature (I have a hard time finding the time to commit to a full playthrough), but it's cool watching a NS/ND run of this!
It's also wild to look at this game and think back to the development of the original RE. They wanted fully-rendered backgrounds in that, but it would force them to only have a maximum of 1 enemy per room, so they went with pre-rendered to save on memory. This game has fully-rendered backgrounds and has like 4 zombies in a single room. It's just kinda crazy to me how much developers learn about the hardware they're using as time goes on (I realize TOSE made this and not Capcom, but you get what I mean). That being said, this game is UGLY.
Also side note: the soundtrack in this game slaps sometimes
