Hi, there is an achievement in RetroArch/RetroAchievements for RE2: Dual Shock Version for PS1: Complete Scenario A and B without killing any zombies (First sequence only). Did you meet this challenge? How was it?
Hey Carci. I have a question. I have the American vanilla version of RE2. Will the strats you've displayed here work on my version of the game ( Most specifically the RNG on Birkin G-3/G-4)?
Interesting how the streets are seemingly empty during the intro cut-scene, but during the game they are all clogged with wrecked cars, barricades and what-not.
My perfect setup would be a combination of Lore and speedrunning strats. So far, the only person I've found to semi-do that is Volvagia for the Zelda series.
i may have said it on your old channel, but i gotta say man, you're probably my favorite runner of resident evil series, you sound like a pretty cool guy and your runs has taught me alot of things
From watching your runs absolutely destroy my favourite childhood game. I have slashed completion times to around 1hr 45mins. Thanks for all your hard work man 👊
I love this channel, you helped me beat Resident Evil 7 on Madhouse and I got to brag to my friends haha. I give you all my gratitude, All Hail Carci 🤘
Nonii 92 No one in the precinct, but in the beginning of RE3 we see that the "special force" or whatever use similar suits. The kind of guys that must be dead/undead by dozens in some sreets of Raccoon City, which could lead Claire to think Leon is an insane impostor who likes to wear dead people's clothes D:
1:06:28 Rebecca fought a tyrant on that same spot 2-3 months earlier.. that rookie was the first character of the game that fought a umbrella's bioweapon.
in the remake, on how the beginning goes, i'm surprised they switched it up with it being Leon A and Claire B. The demo had Leon at the entrance of the police station while Claire had to go through the back courtyard entrance
The charm in this game was unmatched, the greatest survival horror title I have ever played and my favorite game of all time; yes, I have adapted to the modern remakes and RE games of today, but nothing will ever touch RE2 1998, not even RE4.
1:20:05 Apparently Claire A and Leon B is only acknowledged as canon. If you look up the T-00 on the Resident Evil Wiki he confronts Leon and Ada and non canon confronts Claire and Sherry in Claire B. So Ada being F'd up by T-00 instead of falling is what really happens.
I don't know if you did. I just caught you saying "nobody actually knows how ada survives that". I use to consider Leon A and Claire B to be canon, which confused me when I played RE4. I just think they don't consider it canon because she'd be dead.
Zale Blackwell She returns in RE4 as a goddamn spider-woman wearing a Chinese high cut dress, and you're still trying to make sense of the Tyrant beatdown?!
@@chrism1518 Well matter of opinion 😉👍 buddy I don't think the voice acting on there where bad at all especially Leon or Claire RE1 had bad voice acting but still is a great game plus it's a lot of our childhood growing up with RE2 and just being nice and giving a tribute to a person that was a legend for a character of the game!
So, this story happens right in the middle of RE3 story line, about the time when Jill is unconscious in that clock-tower chapel. We saw how streets of Raccoon are literally clogged with all wrecked cars, police barricades, dead bodies everywhere... But here, we se both Leon and Claire just casually driving into the town, no car wrecks, no barricades, nothing. Little consistency Capcom!
@@solidsnakeandgrayfox RE3 came out maybe year after this game and it also ran on PS1, which had same hardware throughout the years. As I remember, RE3 intro shows a lot more stuff than RE2. Also, those videos were pre-rendered and just played like regular video clips, so it all comes down to not planning the story properly.
@@cw3le true, I forgot about that. We also got to keep in mind, they were probably trying to keep everything in check, and planning was poor, but after the backlash that was directors cut with basement music lol.
they're prerendered videos and backgrounds. also the parts in question were clearly in different areas of town where there were no barricades or wrecked cars. similar is portrayed in RE2 Remake until they hit a dead end during the cutscene.
I found that Scenario A was more challenging when I played through it on nintendo 64. I think because Scenario B I started to get the hang of what I was playing. But either way I only just managed to get through. I also saved the game. You are a boss at this [Thumbs Up]
I haven't played original/classic/1998 RE2 in a while, but I think that I remember the B scenarios having more difficult boss fights, but the rest of the game is a little easier, because it seems that you get more ammo for your power weapons. You also get the Shotgun/Grenade Launcher slightly earlier in the B scenarios.
@@co81385 What you said is very accurate. Also, on the B scenarios is less going back and forth to get the important/necessary items. More zombies appear on B scenarios. And like you said, tougher bosses but you get a little more magnum rounds and grenade rounds!
Tbf this is the canonically right way to beat the game. In the original RE trilogy, it always bothered me as a kid why our characters weren't turning into zombies after getting bitten countless times
@@wayatvideos2142 there is no lore to it! People always tryna make interesting things into a big deal for every form of art, games, movies, etc! It was explained in one of Carci videos with the director of Resident Evil 2 or 3 can’t remember which!
@@BoyStarPower I'm not really worried about making it interesting. I just want it to make sense. I appreciate the director giving us the truth on the matter, but I will continue assuming the virus just doesn't succeed.
I'm watching through these to rejog my memory from those golden childhood days of playing classic RE's on my old PSX, I love your commentaries, I learn so much. I'm about to play the RE2 Seamless HD project - wondering if you know of this and would ever consider doing a video on this graphically enhanced version?
1:06:50 Ada: **gets hit in the fucking back of the head by a huge claw capable of tearing a hole through metal** Leon: **Ada! come on, snap out of it!"
2:27 it's the Alanis Morrisette zombie. At least that's what I always thought she looked like....and hey didn't they did use Canadian voice actors! Coincidence? 😂 One thing I could never stand about this FMV is at 3:04 Leons VP70M stays stationary and his arms recoil. LOL. Considering it has about a massively tiring and long trigger pull (double action, think glock) there's no way it would be like that. He'd be squeezing as hard as he could by that point with his many rounds as he fired already. I've fired one and can't even get through a whole magazine without a bit of a rest, and I'm a 6'2", 200 lb guy!
About the arms in the corridor of the RPD that you say is just a jumpscare and don't do any damage. I remember my brother getting killed by them (already being in danger of course) back in the day. It was 22 years ago so I might be mistaken. Anyway great video ! Very interesting to watch !
I've had a lot of fun watching your playthroughs Carci. I was going to ask, would you mind uploading a video explaining how you do that double-tap quick shot with Leon's handgun? I can only get it working once out of every 15 or 20 tries, maybe twice if I'm lucky
I havn't played this since i was 9, in 98, just dug out the old playstation with some classics i forgot i had, all the residents all FF's Castlevania Sympthony of the night some good games. just wondering for first time playthroughs is Claire A the better one ?
Hi Carci, I'm puzzled about something. In the comment section of your 1:11:20 speedrun, you mentioned playing on a PS2 Slim with Fast Disc Load Speed. However, in that speedrun, the loading times for the doors are longer than in this playthrough. What did you play this on? I've only seen fast loading times like this on PSP!
I like that Leon and Claire actually meet in the station in 98 unlike 2019. Playing 2019 I was like how the fuck aren’t they encountering each other in here
The PAL version seems to have all the monster placements of the US version, which is interesting because normally, non-Japanese game versions are nerfed.
@@CarcinogenSDA Thank you and in your ClaireA run I missed it again but at 26:50 you pick up ammo that wasn't on the table for me. One last thing: I'm playing on RA and when I finished LeonA I saved the ClaireB in the first file slot. I did the same on disc 2 after finishing ClaireA this morning using your amazing videos, I tried to load LeonB after finishing ClaireA and it didn't let me. I was thinking I needed to change the disc so I used the feature "eject disc" and changed it to disc 1. The game froze so I restarted Retroarch. Now when I load Disc 1 it shows LeonB in slot 1 (weird because that's the LeonA disc) and in disc 2 there is no Leon or Claire save. Did I just permanently lose my ClaireB save? I don't want to play through Leon A again... thank you again for actually responding to my comment and I really love your videos.
@@CarcinogenSDA And if this extra information helps: I compressed both discs to .chd files, I'm playing on an Anbernic RG35XX H, and don't have shared memory card turned on because I wasn't sure how to. If I haven't mentioned anything else you are aware of it's because I don't know about it as that's all the information I have that is relevant. Even though I'm not playing on a computer I can move everything on to Retroarch on my computer if that's what I need to do.
@@dricoplayspokemon It's merely differences between the Japanese and English versions. The "hidden" bullets I pick up ARE present in those same rooms in the US versions. You just have to look a bit harder. Either there is no item sparkle, or they're hidden in a weird spot nearby.
@@dricoplayspokemon So, I think what's going on is that Retroarch is automatically making memory cards on a per-game basis. The problem isn't that you need to change discs. The problem is the emulator not loading the virtual memory card that has the Claire save created. I believe what's going on is that the ISO for the Claire disc has a separate SLUS code. My Leon disc identifies as SLUS-00421, and my Claire disc identifies as SLUS-00592. So, Retroarch identifies that SLUS code and creates a separate memory card because it thinks Disc 2 (Claire) is a completely different game. I don't use Retroarch, so I can't properly help you in that regard... You'll have to figure out how to load the correct memory card on your own.
An all-kill run? I didn't even know that was possible. I've ran out of every bullet I had against the final boss once in Leon A during the attempt. I guess the knife was still an option, but... yeah. Do an all-kill run? Please? :D
Just finish this speed run Leon A Psx PAL version rank A 1:25:52 Can't believe could beat that since there are much more enemies in the way. Where could I check if is world record or not?
The puzzles the locations even some of the story sequences are better than its remake which is a shame. There's really no excuse for making an inferior game in 2018. You're easily suppose to make the game better not cut content and make the B scenario a lot similar to A .
I'm so confused. I see so many debates and things online talking about how Resident evil is leaving the past from survival horror into action and I just see you having plenty of bullets and ability to just kill everything or simply run past it with nothing overly scary at all. It's just like the current games except in the current games it's just better controls to do exactly what you want to do.
There is a difference between someone playing this with a speedrun background and people playing it casually. When I played this game and now the remake I lack ammo all the time and the games scare the shit out of me.
Hey Carci, I remember you had another RE2 series on your other channel explaining the differences between Normal and Arrange but can't seem to find it. I just can't seem to get a clear-cut explanation of it. I just fired up Hard Arrange on the Sourcenext PC port, and I get no auto aim, more zombies, and differently arranged enemies. While on Original Hard, I had less enemies, and auto aim enabled. Everybody on the internet says that Arrange should be easier, I just don't find that the case. I'm just trying to play the game as hard as possible. Any explanation would be appreciated, thanks!
I know this is old comment - but if you want to play a PUNISHING version of RE2 get the Dreamcast ver. (GC release may work as well) and select the nightmare difficulty. It lives up to its name. I couldn't get very far at all. If I remember right the ammo is scarce enemies do insane damage, and turn into complete bullet sponges.

Sorry bout that babe... I ain't got no clue darling
I've did so many speedruns with this game. Seems like the best I ever did for A scenario was 1 hour 45 minutes.
Joga Muito 👍👏👏
An all-kill run? I didn't even know that was possible. I've ran out of every bullet I had against the final boss once in Leon A during the attempt. I guess the knife was still an option, but... yeah.
Do an all-kill run? Please? :D
Just finish this speed run Leon A Psx PAL version rank A 1:25:52
Can't believe could beat that since there are much more enemies in the way. Where could I check if is world record or not?
PAL is invalid for WRs on Speedrun.com
you should either run PC/Emulator or find a way to play NTSC instead
If you have to get the heart key for the basement, how do you not trigger the scene when Marvin turns?
at 16:50 you got the key but i didn't got the key neither the zombie was not there too help where can i find the second key
get to the RPD without picking up ANY items.
The puzzles the locations even some of the story sequences are better than its remake which is a shame. There's really no excuse for making an inferior game in 2018. You're easily suppose to make the game better not cut content and make the B scenario a lot similar to A .
44:11 Isn't a two-way mirror just a window?
Considering that Marvin has an expanded role in the remake, I look forward to seeing how they will add feels to his transformation.
Well, no feels at all as it seems.
Carci, sorry for commenting on an old vid. Any particular reason you didn't pick up the w. box key for the magnum parts?
I'm so confused. I see so many debates and things online talking about how Resident evil is leaving the past from survival horror into action and I just see you having plenty of bullets and ability to just kill everything or simply run past it with nothing overly scary at all. It's just like the current games except in the current games it's just better controls to do exactly what you want to do.
It wasn't as severe as in the first one but item gestion was still a thing

Arrange Mode Hard is indeed the single most difficult way to play.
Nightmare Mode and Arrange Hard on PC are exactly the same thing
@@CarcinogenSDA WAOOW! How could they possibly do thishh?
Bro 1:05:33 to 1:05:40 sound kinda fire
Is resident evil 2 the easiest and shortest of the originals?
R.I.P Paul Haddad 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
What is your favorite RE to replay?
at 29:27 there is a dog in a way, that you have to kill in American version!
yes one extra dog which doesn't take that much ammo.
yeah, 2shell of shotgun..np@@CarcinogenSDA
use handgun instead on dogs, shotgun is a waste
