    Motzart and Maisie were rescues, they fell down a ventilation shaft in a building I used to work in and it was impossible to replace them in their nest. They were close to death when I found them, I have nursed them back to health . As they are now human imprint it would certainly lead to their death if they were released as they have no idea how to fend for themselves in the wild. these guys have free flight often, and will put themselves back into their cage at night.

    Starlings are not Pet birds, I only have Motzart and Maisie as rescues. They have a very specialised diet which is not mostly fruit. They can suffer from Hyperkeratosis and Iron storage disease if the right diet is not followed. I can help with diet if you have a rescue bird but I absolutely do not agree with taking birds from nests. Contrary to popular belief babies can be returned to a nest if they fall out.

    I have a 3 yr. old named Bernie who talks more than whistles...he is amazing how he calls the kid's names out, tells them to be quiet and says "kiss" just like your bird does! I raised him after he was knocked out of the nest during a thunderstorm. Not many people believe me that he can talk, but he talks incessantly! I love my wonderful little Bernie! Hi Karen,
      Starlings are not protected species of birds that I know of, which means you can keep them. The can -with a kind and loving owner be wonderful pet birds that talk.
      I am glad you found then and took them in.
      Remember birds have the largest brain per body mass of any land dwelling creature. Which makes them more intelligent that today's average teenager. ;)
      Starlings are strikingly beautiful in their breeding season colors!
      It is a sad state of mind these troller have who just spend their days and evening spouting of negativity towards others. In other words they don't like themselves much so they try to bring other people down with them. Just ignore or block them.

    That is a mix of Her..(it's a "Girl" Bird) natural calls "Skree skree skree" plus the whistles you taught Her, (which are quite clear)!
    You might want to play music of someone whistling. She will pick that, & any recordings of other Birds singing.

    • @PetStarlings
      @PetStarlings  Год назад

      HI, He will like the protein, cat food is great as the protein is higher than dog food. Dry cat food soaked in water, or wet cat food is a great start, also meal worms and the roaches as a treat the egg is god too. They dont really eat seed unless starving. Motzart and Maisie love "petit pois" , and cucumber. Their main diet is "orlux beo pate myna food" and "Orlux Remiline Universal Granules 25kg". They like to peck at other greens such as cabage leaves too.

  • @PetStarlings
    @PetStarlings  11 лет назад +3

    Firstly use of Diatomaceous earth (used by chicken keepers amongst others) eradicates lice and mites, any captive bird can get these even those bought from pet shops. Secondly to actually catch bird flu the birds need to come into contact with other diseased birds, a bit difficult when they are indoors. I am quite happy to answer any genuine questions you may have, but just spouting out stupid comments such as kill it says more about you than me!

    Did you rescue these birds? I know you can keep them as pets. I was wondering this as I would like to have two of my own. They seem to have a nice temperament, though I haven't seen very much about them online as other domestic birds. I've read lots about them, but do you have any tips for their care? Do you know where I could get them? Also, since I know that they don't eat much fruit and need a lot of space, I was wondering if (rather than a cage) I would give them a room to themselves and give them dog food. They would have perches and toys, and a couple of dishes full of dog food throughout the day (and water, of course).

    • @PetStarlings
      @PetStarlings  6 лет назад +1

      Knave of dogs hi, yes I did rescue these guys. They fell down a ventilation shaft at work so there was no way of putting them back in the nest. These are not birds you can aqquire, they are protected in the UK and in the US most states it is illegal to have them unless you are a licensed rehabber. They have a very special diet which takes time and effort to prepare. If you are still interested in owning one you would be best to join some fb groups and get known, rehabbers sometimes look for new homes for imprinted birds.

    • @PetStarlings
      @PetStarlings  6 лет назад

      Dog food is not adequate for a healthy bird, they are prone to hyperkeratosis and iron storage disease, diet is so important. My guys have dried egg, insect pate, dried mealworms , layer mash, fresh peas and grated carrot as a daily meal, they also have treats of live wax worms, grapes and cucumber. Even on this diet they still have mild hyperkeratosis. They are not pets. I only have them because there was no other option. You also need to be able to trim beaks and claws.

    • @corbeaudejugement
      @corbeaudejugement 6 лет назад

      Karen Clayton thank you! I've always liked the idea of rehabbing. I'll have to look more into that. Thanks for the information, and it's really nice of you to care for these birds when they needed it.

    Are they hard to keep? I was reading that their diet should consist of mostly fruit, they need a HUGE cage and should not be confined most of the day. Is this all true? I want one, but I want to know how difficult it would be.

    • @PetStarlings
      @PetStarlings  7 лет назад +1

      I would not advise keeping Starlings as pets, they need a very specialised diet with very high protein content and vit A. They are prone to Hyperkeratosis and Iron storage disease if not fed correctly, Fruit is a tiny part of their diet.

Nie karmiłbym robaków, ponieważ mogą mieć pasożyty. Potrzebują dobrego źródła protienu, aby pomóc im wchłonąć witaminę A. bez witaminy A mogą rozwinąć hiperkeratozę. Moja miłość petit pois (maleńki groszek). Jeśli jest dzieckiem, musisz namoczyć suchą karmę dla kotów, jeśli jest dorosły, może ją zjeść zmiażdżoną i suchą. Google transalte zrobił dobrze. :-D

      As someone with a rescue bird (A Northern Cardinal a.k.a A Red Bird) I can tell you they have places they consider "their place". My bird does not have his wings clipped, nor does he live in a cage, but he did claim a fat plastic coat hanger as his own, and goes there when startled or scared because it is his safe place. He goes there to sleep every night, and when he wants alone time to just watch what's going on. The cage is the bird's area, just like a dog might go into a kennel on their own.

      Motzart and Maisie have free flight during the day and put themselves to bed at night in their cage.

      Have you actually read why I have them in the first place? Before making sweeping ignorant statements find out the FACTS. These birds are unable to be released.

      If they live into the USA, that's extremely unethical. For one, this bird seems domesticated, it likely wouldn't survive in the wild. Secondly, YERO-PEE-AN starling, the worst invasive bird species in the USA, out competes almost every bird they run into besides raptors. Please just shut up.

    I have 10 parrots that I love dearly and I feel bad that they are stuck inside my house cuz they were born to be free and be able to fly wherever they want this is wrong keeping a starling in a cage just because it can talk. Let It Go. Let him experience FREEDOM !
