  • Meet The Mouth, an 8yo European Starling I found as a nestling that had somehow fallen into the street. He is imprinted and not an ethical candidate for release, he lives indoors for his safety. He learns his sounds from his environment, and gets very vocal this time of year as it’s breeding season.

The woman’s laugh is just so eerie! Also, if you notice, the bird doesn’t just imitate a dog barking…he imitates a dog barking AT A DISTANCE. He has mimicked the sound he remembered EXACTLY the way he heard it!

I heard one of the bird sounds that I hear a lot every day. It’s the one that’s like “whick-ick-ick-ick-ick-ick” and goes up in pitch. I’m assuming right now that that sound is one that starlings make in the wild, but I haven’t yet found any recordings of other starlings making the sound.

Oh, I had a pet Starling that I rescued years ago. His name was Sammy and we had him for 8 wonderful years. He was a joy to have in our home. Sammy was family. He was so intelligent and did the funniest things. I swear those 8 years were the happiest years of my life. He brought so many fun memories to our family while he was with us.We all loved him greatly. He was the best gift I have ever received from my daughter. She came home from school with this ugly bald baby bird cupped gently in her hands. "Can we try, mom? Can we try to save him, please mom please!" I didn't even think Sammy would make it through the night. And of course I couldn't break my daughters heart. So I said yes to eight short years with Sammy. I hope to think that when I leave this life. Sammy will be greeting me with his strange and funny whistles.
I appreciate this video it brought back so many sweet memories of Sammy. Thank you for sharing your Starling. I smiled through the entire video. I love the way he buffs his chest out. Thank you again.
    Toni

They were clever, charming birds; even though I’ve hand raised parrots, I never once thought of keeping one once it was capable of caring for itself and successful at finding food. I understand Mozart had one as a pet; their incredible musical talent made this a wonderful pairing.

Most talented Starling, i have ever heard!!!
I started searching Starlings, and so glad to have found your Channel! Love it!
I found 2 Nestling Starlings, that had fallen over 30 feet from their nests, in a public horse indoor area, the other day, and Animal Control came and took them to a Wildlife Sanctuary, where they passed away....I am devastated, and wish I had brought them home, as I knew i could take care of them, better. I had no idea, i could keep them as pets, because they are not a native species.
I think the Wildlife Center, let them die. or euthanized them.
We can't keep native songbirds, but plenty of people have Starlings as pets, in the US.
I'm not sure I did the right thing, turning them over to Animal Control, they might have had them in their car, too long...or something, anyway, I blame myself.
This guy is so cute, he makes me cry.

It sounds like he has imitated a cat's purr just as his human has taught him because it sounds the way a person imitates a purr. I have no doubt this bird would be able to imitate a real purr from a cat if he was near one...A nice cat of course..not one that would see him as lunch lol. Such a cool bird❤

Phenomenal absolutely phenomenal and it’s certain things that birds can do like this that make it hard to believe that they are present day dinosaurs.
