      Those Princeton and Yale titles should have been called Ivy Championships, since very schools outside the Ivy League were playing football.

      @kbrewski1 Год назад +1

      CFB in the 1800s was a club sport most resembling rugby played by rich frat boys at Ivy League schools, and a few other eastern and midwestern universities. Forward pass wasn't used until Dorias to Rockne in 1913 ND over Army. The NCAA started in 1906, when some rules and regulations were adopted to organize the game better. So this video is wrong calling these "NCAA Championships" before 1906. In fact, there really was no "selector" of Championships until around 1919.

      Staubach, Tony Dorsett, Earl Campbell, Marcus Allen, Barry Sanders, and unfortunately OJ Simpson also. Might be a few more, but not many.
      Now there are too many QBs who win it that were products of a pass happy system or QBs of a great team and they don't do much in the NFL. Lately these Oklahoma QBs stand out. Some are laughable. RBs were more likely to continue being elite in the NFL.

For example, in 1970, the video has Nebraska, Ohio State, AND Texas as sharing a national championship because one was ranked the highest in the AP poll, and the other two were tied for highest in the Coaches poll. And I may be wrong, but I am pretty sure 1936 is just when the AP poll started weekly tracking, not when they became the sole "accepted" poll, as I am pretty sure that didn't come until much later. My point is, UGA claims the 1942 national championship because multiple other polls crowned them before the AP poll was the clear/sole poll.

      Wrong. You have no idea what you're talking about. As of 1936, the generally accepted consensus selector of determining #1 by ranking the teams was the group of sportswriters in the AP. That's a fact. In 1942, Ohio St was ranked #1, Georgia was ranked #2. Look it up. College Football Reference. Click "final AP poll". The poll until 1968 did their final poll BEFORE THE BOWL GAMES. The Bowl games didn't count, they were viewed as Exhibition games in a warm weather city and reward for diehard alums/fans. So the Bowl games didn't factor into NC decisions until 1968. That's the way it was. Sorry you're so butthurt over facts. Retroactive measurements concocted by some azz Clown in his basement 60 to 80 years after the fact is meaningless fluff. The AP was the consensus selector.
      It got more confusing in 1950 because they started the UPI coaches poll. Most people didn't pay much attention to that because everyone realized the coaches weren't really even voting, the SIDs were. But, it got to be a 2 poll system which then would create SPLIT TITLES. That just screwed up things more, because any year there was a split polls, then there was no CONSENSUS Nat Champion. So really the only true NC were ones when the AP and UPI agreed on #1. After 1968, once the AP poll started permanently waiting until AFTER the bowl games, from then on the bowl games counted in picking the NC. Read a book.

      Wrong. Those weren't polls that existed in 1942. The recognized cfb measuring system starting in 1936 was the AP poll. That's the reality. Retroactive mathematical gerryrigged measurement systems aren't recognized NC selectors. Until the BCS era, it was the polls. Sorry, you can't just go shopping for some Retroactive formula from any Tom, Dick and Harry and start "claiming" NC. That's not how it works. Georgia didn't win their first NC until 1980. Then another 40 years till the 2nd one.

      @kbrewski1 Год назад +1

      You're right. Every split title btw AP and UPI coaches polls are not CONSENSUS TITLES, so no one actually won those years since 2 teams were claiming them. What's even worse is Bama even claims NC in years when they LOST THE NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME. SEE 1973. #2 10-0 NOTRE DAME BEAT #1 10-0 BAMA IN THE 1973 SUGAR BOWL. THE FINAL COLLEGE POLL BY 73 WAS THE AP POLL AFTER THE BOWL GAMES. 11-0 ND finished #1 easily, and 10-1 Bama finished #4!! FOURTH!! Yet Bama still claims the 1973 NC based on a pre NC bowl games poll by the UPI which had their final vote in December after the reg season ended. They decided not to bother taking a post bowl vote, probably because the NC game had decided the obvious. They did change to post Bowl game voting the next season for good, embarrassed by the 73 debacle. But, despite the result of the 1973 Sugar Bowl, THEY STILL COUNT 1973 AS A NC, AS IF THE GAME WAS NEVER PLAYED!!
      IT'S UNBELIEVABLE AND PATHETIC. 1978 IS ALSO ALMOST AS BAD.

      Lmao, Georgia was #3 in the AP poll. Sorry, just because you are butthurt doesn't mean you can "claim" a NC you didn't win. ND and Army were easily the 2 most powerful teams in the country. Army had won the 44 and 45 NC with many Irish players in WWII during those 2 years. That 0-0 tie btw #1 Army v #2 Notre Dame in a packed Yankee Stadium was the first true Game of the Century. Army had 2 Heisman winners in their backfield, Blanchard and Davis, and Notre Dame had future 47 Heisman winner Johnny Lujack and future 49 winner Leon Hart. Its the only game in CFB history where 4 Heisman winners played in the same game.
      Those 40s teams ND had were the greatest cfb dynasty of all time. 46, 47, 48, 49 were 4 straight undefeated seasons, a whole class never saw their scbool lose a game. ND also won the NC in 1943. ND had Heisman winners in 43 (Bertelli), 47(Lujack), 49 (Leon Hart) in that period.
      The 46 team was a powerhouse with a bunch of players coming back to ND after fighting in WWII including QB/DB Lujack who had fought for 2 years in the Navy. Lujack made the game saving tackle on Davis near the end of the game with a perfect open field tackle.
      ND led the nation in total offense, rushing yards, and total defense. They only allowed 4 TDs all year. FOUR. They had 5 shutouts.
      ND played a National Schedule as always, playing Illinois, Pitt, Purdue, Iowa, Army in NY, Navy, USC in LA etc. Georgia played a typical Southern region schedule except for Temple it looks like.
      Back then the SEC was not getting the best players. The best came mainly from the Rust Belt in the Midwest and Pennsylvania whose Dads worked in coal mines, auto and steel factories etc.
      PS>>you should be happy you somehow won the 1980 NC by beating Notre Dame in the Sugar Bowl when your QB competed only 1 frickin pass the entire game! ND fumbled 2 KO/punts within their own 5 yard line setting up Ga with 2 TDs. Ridiculous. I was a junior at ND in 1980 and we were all set to win the NC after beating Bama and Bear Bryant 7-0 AT BAMA late in the year until we blew it by losing AT USC in the last game.
