Dude, your videos have been a lifesaver. Been rebuilding my e46 330ci and I'm so close to getting it buttoned up. Replaced every single gasket and o-ring from the head up. I just power washed my oil pan minutes ago inside and out, and after it dries it's going back on with a new gasket. The only thing LEFT is the oil filter housing gasket. I have the gasket and I'll get on it soon. I just absolutely need this car running for work. It''s definitely in better shape than it was when I bought it, and it's entirely thanks to your videos my man. Thanks so much.
this happened to me. worst day of my life. lost my baby. thanks for sharing awareness on this. i have been following for quite some time now with the e46. happy you are back. you gave me the confidence to work on my cars. now i have a s85 e63 m6 and e70 x5 4.8 ...wrench on it every day . beamer gang appreciates you.
I just bought a 05 330xi, and between you and chrisfix, I must have saved thousands of dollars. It's not that I can't DIY, I can't LIY, learn it myself. your videos are the next best thing after having an actual teacher. I can't thank you enough, not just for the variety of parts you covered on the e46, but the quality of the video. You made sure the parts can be seen, even taking other parts off to show the topic parts better, you explain the purpose and connection of each part, tricks to make life easy, torque settings, just... Everything I'd want to know besides someone actually being able to tell me I did it right. I'm using your videos to do my first valve cover gasket, transmission fluid change, and cooling reservoir swap. I wouldn't have even known where to start, and now I feel like it's pretty straight forward. (Screw the oil pan gasket, though, that was an insane repair for a 15 dollar gasket.) I cannot explain how helpful these videos are. Thank you again!
@@oldjarhead1125 Do you think that belt was frayed by hitting the frame but somehow the pulley didn't crack? I'm still stumped on why it was frayed like that!
@@50sKid I agree, I don't have a clue either. Age? Maybe . whatever the reason, it wouldn't have been long before some of the shredded cords would have gotten cause between the pulley & crankshaft....and....no telling what would have happened. It's on $80 ....cheap insurance for a know issue

So so so true. Most ignored maintenance item for newbies. Happened to my brother in law. Caused so many issues and had to be towed time and time again.
VTT crank hub seal protection plate and bolt capture. Get these done ASAP on your N54/N55 powered BMW! I bought an e82 135i M Sport that was tuned, had bolt on mods. Serpentine belt shredded because power steering pump was very low on fluid, causing a scavenge lurch in RPM on idle at stop from go. Had a huge panic attack, happened just weeks after buying. Luckily, crank seal is perfectly intact, no fragments behind the crank vibration damper, no oil leaks, oil pressure is the same before this happened. I dodged a bullet, you may not be so lucky.. avoid this at all costs, both VTT pieces together will cost you about $200 shipped vs $$$$$ if you get belt fragments sucked into your timing chain cover! My e46 M3's S54 motor has a better vibration damper design that covers the front main seal, keeping the belt pulley portion on the outside of the damper vs inside.. why oh why did they have to change this design!
Just watched one of your old videos from 2015. The one where you said you had some "meat in the rear" 😂😂 I probably see that way back then but it made me laugh once again.
Ok so I know this isn’t the correct video to ask this question but I’m trying to find information on reconnecting the existing driveshaft on my e46 into a diff from a different e46 I watched your video and you didn’t seem to go over that so I’m guessing it’s not an issue. Just concerned with vibration if I don’t install it correctly. Thankyou for any input
Shouldn’t be any issue with that, other than the fact that the flange might be different and you might have to swap them. I had to do that for the two output shafts on the sides when I swapped my diff after the manual swap.
@@50sKid Thankyou so much for the speedy response it really shows what type of guy you are ! For all of you who take this opportunity to put down bmws. I work on many cars for my friends and family and guess what...I own a 335i. If you think your little Toyota or honda is any better I could tell you stories of cars I fixed. Yes toyotas and hondas. Also Nissan's with their terrible timing chains.

Yeah I just said that because that seems to be all anyone wants to do. Buy the car, bolt on some upgrades and go fast. Then boom your belt is gone and sucked into the engine

Jason, you're the man. Glad your back up on RUclips......Now lets get that Front engine seal guard installed to keep the belt out of the engine.
Orrr… we can keep up on the maintenance and never break a belt in the first place?

What about the rod bearings?? 😁😁
Very silly thumbnail ha ha thank you MR JASON
I have read on some forum that the oil filter housing gasket failure can lead to oil in coolant. What say you 50s kid
Yes it can because oil and coolant both go through the unit. The oil is cooled by the coolant. When the gasket leaks they can intermix.

“Break My Wallet” is what BMW stands for now
So I have never owned this car. But would polyurethane mounts help this?
Perhaps but it’d increase the vibrations
My friend's 335i has thrown like 6 belts, ofhg has been replaced and it has the metal pulley. Must need engine mounts lol.
Or all 3 power steering pump bolts lol
a bad tensioner or the other 2 pulleys with shot bearings can also do it
