Hi Christine, made my second one now… the first one I just made to the length of the 7XL. Made one this week, I lengthen it 10.5 cm on top of doing it to the longest length.. made a size L. I did a FBA and removed the excess width of the hemline that would move out with an FBA … and a forward shoulder point. No pocket. I love this one. Will wear the other one, but LOVE this one so much more. I even did a rolled narrow hem with a little side split and curved it…. It will become a staple to make. I’m glad you jumped outside your NEVER box and made it. You look amazing in yours 🦩🦩💖
Hi Christine! I wasn't going to make the Donny either, until I saw Michelle's . Yours is beautiful. I have downloaded the pattern but need to find the right fabric.
Thanks Jen. Talking with Michelle sure helped for knowing how much length to add. I was rewarded for my laziness in waiting for the pattern to arrive from the printer as Michelle had nearly completed her second one by the time my pattern showed up so I got to benefit from her experience!
What fabric are you using? I think my next one will be in a little lighter weight fabric. Not that I have any regrets using the fab poplin in my first!
Thank you! I love The Friday Pattern Co patterns 💕💕💕Have you seen Michelle’s review from @MichelleSewsAgain? It is super helpful. I really enjoyed the sew and did not mind going slow because I set out with the intention of being slow and just enjoying sewing.
I have made the Donny four times now, three times in a cotton and once in viscose. I prefer the viscose with the drape. I also added Length, I am only 5’1” but do not like the cropped look on me. I love your fabric choice and like the finished garment on you.
I have sewed approximately a dozen things since the beginning of the year and the Donnie shirt is my absolute favorite. It was easy to sew and looks fantastic on. Very flattering and I used a beautiful quilting cotton. I will definitely make this one again!
I haven’t seen the Donny made up in such lovely fabric, most are plain fabric. I love your version of it. I’ll be lengthening mine too so it’s less boxy on my "mature" figure. Thanks for sharing. 🌹❤️
It is such a wearable shirt! If I had used wider non-directional fabric I could have got it out of less fabric. I think I would love a linen blend version.
I just sewed this up yesterday with the same thoughts! I made my hem same as yours. Slow sewing is the ways to go especially around that front facing. I accidentally interfaced both collar pieces, but my collar is amazingly stiff and perfect.
Gotta love an amazing collar! I don’t mind a slow sew when it has a purpose. I also don’t mind a slow sew when I am having fun n sewing the pattern. I still want to make the Donny dress hack.
It is not too tricky Zelda. I did not know what I was ‘supposed’ to be afraid of when I first started sewing and I was putting in collars and set in sleeves very early in my sewing.
When this was first released I thought hard pass. I saw so many nice ones and thought I would give it a try not expecting much. It was definitely an exercise in trying something I did not think would work and being rewarded by loving it.
Thanks! I knew I would need to add length and thankfully Michelle was working on her first one before I cut my fabric or I would have been an inch shorter and not as happy with it. I do really like it!
Thanks for posting. Love your Donny Top! I was also unsure about it and was wondering if I would need to do an FBA and add a dart. Did you find it too low cut?
I wish I had thought to mention the depth of neckline because that concerned me when I looked at the pattern. It is not too low. I do not show any cleavage. My plan when I thought about it too late in the sewing process was to ladder stitch it if I felt it was too low. No need to do it so all is good. I did not need a full bust adjustment. I have 2 inches of difference between upper and full bust. I do know that @michellesewsagain is doing an FBA on her next Donny.

Sounds fab! I am glad I gave it a go because the first one still makes me so happy and the second one I also reach for a lot.
Thanx for the review and the extra tips at the end.
I love my Donny and have worn it a lot. I got a compliment on it Monday when I was grocery shopping. Always feels good. 💕
I think we need more witty labels for our significant others. So funny!
I know 😂
Hi Christine! I wasn't going to make the Donny either, until I saw Michelle's . Yours is beautiful. I have downloaded the pattern but need to find the right fabric.
It would be so pretty in a cotton lawn.
You have chosen the most appropriate label, your donny is gorgeous!
Thank you! I am very happy with it.
Your fabric choice nailed it! No old lady vibe at all - a real worry for many of us! Particularly when I am quite old! hahah
😂 thank you Helen
Love your shirt Christine! Great review - I think you were really thorough.
Thanks Michelle!
Turned out so well! I'm so glad you took a nod from Michelle - both of you look great in these! xoxox

The shirt looks nice and it fits beautifully
Thank you!
I thought the same as you did, but now I’m sold on it . I bought the pattern now to sew it up. Thank you for tips.

Your Donny is super cute Christine!! I really love the fabric you used. 💞
Thanks Izzy! I love the colors and he pattern of that fabric.
I love it, Christine! Those colors are gorgeous! 💗
Thank you! The colors do make me feel good.
I love your Donny top! And the fabric….so beautiful. I feel inspired to give it a try❤
Thank you! I do really like it.
Give it a go!
Yep, bought mine 2 days ago. Grew on me too. Love yours.
I had a real turn around on this pattern. Let us know how you get on with it.
Love your new shirt. Great informative review. I have this on my list to make.

Thank you! I was wondering how it would be in viscose.
Love It!!!

I do love mine 💕💕. I have been editing my closet and the Donny is still a winner.

I just love the Donny!
This is beautiful! Recently bought the Donny pattern and your video encourages me to make it soon! Thank you! Happy sewing!
I ended up wearing this more than any other item in my wardrobe!
The sew a long really helped me. I always get confused. Hooray for seam rippers!
Thanks for watching.
Your top turned out great. I love the fabric!
Thanks! I was so happy with the shirt I put it on immediately after finishing it!
I love your shirt and all the Donny shirts I've seen. I haven't bought it yet but intend to do it.
It is such a wearable shirt! If I had used wider non-directional fabric I could have got it out of less fabric. I think I would love a linen blend version.
Its lovely on you!
Thanks Carmen!

I like your Donny shirt. I'm not there yet, but maybe I might be one day! Ha ha ha.

it really look cute on you. i objected to the design, but it aint bad.

I’m not a big Donny shirt fan tbh, but I really like the version you made. It looks really good. 👍
Thank you! Never say never 😂. I did not like it at all when I first saw it.
Great information about the pattern, thank 10:13 You said you added 3 inches to the length, so can I ask how tall you are, please ?
5’4”. I also used a smaller hem.
@ChristineSewsALot thanks so much, that helps a lot
I’m only 5’2 and I would like it longer too. I might grade out a bit though. I’ve also considered doing an FBA
I saw the "Michelle Sews" warning about where the hem of the top hits. I see you made some adjustments for that, too.
Cute top

@@ChristineSewsALot thanks!
Michelle from @MichelleSewsAgain just did a FBA on her third Donny and will be posting a video on it this week I think. So keep an eye on her channel.

I want to make another Donny. I wear mine a lot.
