Both versions are very pretty and look amazing on you! I haven’t purchased this pattern because I don’t love a boxy top on me, but now that I’m seeing all these gorgeous versions, I’m seriously tempted! Thank you for the tutorial! 😊
Thank you for your tutorial on Donny shirt pattern, on your recommendation I cut my blouse at the full length of the pattern and was glad I did as it fits me perfectly. ❤😊
Wow that viscose fabric is so beautiful! Your cap sleeve version has sold me on the pattern, that’s basically the look I’m after. I love a collared shirt but I’ve had difficulties nailing down how to make it work for my small shoulders, larger bust, petite frame. I find that the boxy styles look terrible on me and I feel like I’ve suddenly become my mother with those sleeves… thank you for identifying why I suddenly feel like a middle aged frump sometimes. I really appreciate your honest review.
This looks so good with the cap sleeves! I'm going to give this a try; like you I prefer a cap sleeve to the longer sleeves it comes with. Thanks for a great video!
I too shared your original opinion of the Donny. But I’ve seen some lovely ones and had been reconsidering it as a scrap buster. Now I have seen your two versions, which are both lovely, but the cap sleeve hack is the absolutes decider, farewell frump ! The difference in look is a real game changer. Clever gal. Thank-you Rachel, I’m so gonna copy this. x
Hi Rachel I have watched your vlog a couple of times following buying the Donny Shirt, I really like your cap sleeve hack. I’m now plucking up the courage to ‘have a go’. Think I’ll do a practise run first, but you have inspired me, thank you. X
I was like you and thought the Donny might be a little frumpy looking. I have been loving seeing what people are making with it. Thanks for the cap sleeve tutorial.
I dismissed this design when released, not thinking it was for me, however you have convinced me I was wrong, so will order the pattern. Love both versions you made, so pretty. I’m one of the ladies you referred to that prefers to have slightly longer sleeves, so won’t do the capped sleeve version but I saw someone who made a three quarter sleeve that look super + instead of gathering on the back made a pleat & that looked good also. Thank you for sharing, really enjoy your videos.😊
I had to chuckle when you mentioned buying small pieces of fabric when you first started sewing, I can sooo relate!!!! I think both versions look lovely but your cap sleeve really elevates the top x
I sat on the fence about this pattern I’m still pulling out splinters 😂 so it’s now printed out ready to stick together ☺️ I love the cap sleeve version and the fabric you’ve used ☺️
Really like both your versions of the Donny Rachel but I think the cap sleeve one is definitely you! I do really like the look in a viscose, especially in that beautiful fabric, and I think I’m going to try that next as I used an embroidered cotton for my first version.
Love the cap sleeve hack Rachel, it makes it look more modern, I never miss a sewl sisters vlog, but I hope you don’t mind me saying I love your personal vlogs, I learn so much from you.
I like a boxy loose fit cotton or rayon top for the hot weather. I am as pale as you are, my roots being from your part of the world and a little cap on the sleeve helps prevent the sun burn. I am one of those that have some short lengths of fabric. I will give this top a try.
Both tops look fabulous. I like the pattern hack, you made it look easy to do. I think I will try it for my Donny top. Thanks for sharing step by step. Much appreciated!
Your hair looks lovely! 🌺 I too made this shirt in a navy broderie leftover fabric as a toile and had the same issue with white facings. 😊 I still love it though and will certainly wear it. I can’t wait to make more.
Excellent video. I couldn’t picture the cap sleeve. I’m glad you showed how you drafted it. I like both of your tops, but that second one is exceptional. The fabric is so pretty and that sleeve does look very nice on you.
They both look great, but I do see that the second one looks more like your aesthetic. However I love the blue one with the jeans, and it will be great with the white shorts that you mentioned :) The second one will look pretty with anything. When I make it I think I will make the sleeve a bit longer, then roll it with a little button tab that holds it up.
Thanks for showing us how to do the sleeve alteration. When I first saw this pattern I wasn’t sure but I do like your navy version. However, I love the cap sleeve version in the viscose fabric, that has made me think again about this pattern for me. X
Hi Rachel firstly I love your hair.. I have curly wavy hair too and ruined it by using straightening it. I have embraced the look with the correct products.. Love love your Donay shirts you have sold it to me. The cap sleeve is more modern too thanks for sharing this xx
I love your hair like that! The curl really suits you! I hope you get Bronte to add the purple back in as it's fading out, I'd add it all the way around from side to side. Love both your Donnys I might have to pick up that pattern after all!
In all seriousness I was surprised to hear you apologise for your hair. It looked like you were trying something new and I thought how much it softened your face and really suited you. If one side looks rubbish in the morning because you’ve been laying on it just spritz it with a bit of conditioner mixed in a full container of water and roughly scrunch it. I use those misters that come out as a really fine spray - the same one I have for my spray starch for my fabric. 🌹❤️
I have the same viscose fabric and I'm suprise wat you made with it , you made a white blouse ,Lisa from "And sew on" said that you made gorgeously one with white fabric, do you have a video from you making the blouse please ? Love to see it ! Greats from Belgium 🇧🇪 😊
Just cutting out my second Donny - I was the same as you though, wasn't overly fussed but it grew on me! Mind you glad I made a toile - I had to lengthen by 2 inches as I don't like cropped but also had to narrow the shoulders and change the shoulder slope too. The fabric I want to make the 2nd one out of was a remnant from a charity shop and I can't get the sleeves to fit however I might be able to fit capped sleeves on! Fingers crossed
Your tops are lovely on you, looks like it hits you in just the right places. I’m getting ready to make one in a bright abstract flower in cotton. It took me awhile to get on board with this pattern also. Take care!
I really relate to what your saying it took a lot of convincing till i bought the marnie blouse and the mable dress and i too only bought 1.5 mtrs of fabric too 😂😂
I felt the same way about the Donny shirt , but love the cap sleeve option you have shown us…… your fabric stash behind you ! It’s like a shop 😝 dreamy . X x x
Love the cap sleeve, and I hadn't been able to work out why I didn't like this pattern, but the sleeve hack makes a big difference and is much mor my style too. Thanks for showing the way!
Hello Rachel, I had just finished my second shirt before watching your vlog. One in quilting cotton, one in tencel , plus two dresses, one in viscose and one in ramie, so quite a versatile pattern fabric wise. I think the broderie anglaise colour really suits you. Your hack sleeves is really good, though as someone really ancient , I’ll stick with the original length! Cheers.
Rachel, wonderful vlog as usual. I really loved both versions of your Donny shirt. I like the longer sleeves to hide my arms but you look great in the cap sleeve version so show off those arms! Also, your hair looked great, I don’t know why you were self conscious about it. ❤
Lovely makes! The viscose fabric is gorgeous, and both shirts look great on you. I bought the pattern the moment it was released, but haven't had time to sew it up yet. It is now cut out in a linen, and I can't wait to make it.
I loved your Broderie Anglias version of the Donny shirt, but I love the viscose version even more ❤❤! Thank you for the tutorial. It’s inspired me to make a Donny too
It is a very nice shirt. I love both versions on you. The longer sleeve looks a bit more formal while the cap sleeve feels very breezy and rekaxed. I need another shirt pattern like I need a hole in the head, but it is tempting...
Hi Rachel, thank you for your review of the shirt, I wasn't going to get it as I've just bought 2, but seeing yours has really tempted me into splurging. Yours are beautiful, I get what you mean about the sleeves, I think I'll actually go for elbow length to start. Hugs from East Sussex. xxx
Thank you for making my mind up about the Donny shirt like you I was really unsure about it. I really struggle with some of the indie pattern companies imaging on their patterns, therefore I tend to wait and see what the sewing community does with the pattern. It isn't because I can't see past their take on the pattern its more of a case of it just doesn't do it for me. I have now purchased the Donny shirt pattern. And you have given me another hack for the Sagebrush top. Love both of your versions of the Donny shirt such a quick make which as you said can be dressed up or great casual top. Thank you for the tutorial on the sleeves. The cap sleeve shirt fabric is stunning.
I really like your hair like that, I wish mine had a bit of wave or curl to it but it’s straight as a poker lol 😂 I love the Donny shirt and like you I am usually a slow burner but this time I was straight on it and had made 3 within the first week if having it with more planned 😊 I also made no alterations other than add an inch to the length 😊 on my third one instead of gathering at the yoke I made a little centre box pleat and liked that too 😊 I’d go back over the eyelets of the material interfacing with a matching felt tip or fabric paint to match it in 😊
On the fence with this pattern. How many button down shirts with this placket do WE ALL have already that can be hacked into the front seam???? This year I'm forcing myself to only buy patterns that i absolutely can't figure out how to hack. I'm determined not to buy this one. It's on the brain but not on the cutting table YET. Seems like a great stash Buster for sure. I've got more than a few mystery wovens that would work. I'm just wondering though if the front facing thing needs to be as long in the front? I've seen a few versions and it's just a design feature i think. Prefer the shorter sleeve definitely just for better ease of wear. Your capped sleeve inspires me to try a Tulip cap on a floral fabric. Thanks for the video. It's moved the hack up on the plans to try a version before having to buy it. I've got an old vintage shirt pattern i think i can hack that has the similar front view.
Ooo love your viscose version Rachel! I'm just cutting out a viscose one. First I made from 85 cm of quilting cotton. So good to have patterns to use up smaller pieces of fabric !
Both shirts look lovely but like you I think the cap sleeve version just edges it. Thanks for showing how it is done. I was not really attracted to the pattern either but you have changed my mind.
Really liking both your Donny shirts. I love love this pattern have just finished my first version in a viscose but don’t like the sleeves on me either. Your tutorial for the cap sleeve is great and they look so good on you but I wouldn’t want a shorter sleeve (vanity 😂) so I’ve decided to slash and spread for a fuller short sleeve and add a cuff. 🤞it works.
Hi Rachel, thanks for the review of the Donny and for your clever sleeve hack. I recently bought some skin-tone woven interfacing from Sew Essential which might work for broderie anglaise - too late for you this time but good to know about for a future project.
Hey Rachel like you i dithered with this but today i decided to download the pattern as that was more reasonable for me but honestly the pattern layout isn't right i just wondered if you had any trouble with your printout ? or did you get one of those copy shop patterns I've never had a problem printing out before so puzzled I've emailed the company so hopefully i get sorted any how i just thought you may have heard anything out there that would help l've a feeling its more to do with me
Both versions are very pretty and look amazing on you!
Ohooo - loving the fabric and cap sleeves on the second top. Well done on both tops though.
The cap sleeve is more you and the blouse looks lovely in that fabric

i love the fabric. the white is attractive under the blue. I looks like sequiens. it fits you great.
I love the sleeves on you it's beautiful on you x
Great vlog, loving the sleeve hack
Love the cap sleeves!
I love this shirt on you and you’ve made me want this pattern!,
I had to chuckle when you mentioned buying small pieces of fabric when you first started sewing, I can sooo relate!!!! I think both versions look lovely but your cap sleeve really elevates the top x
Love that hack, thanks Rachel!
Oooh love this hack and both of your versions ❤
I sat on the fence about this pattern I’m still pulling out splinters 😂 so it’s now printed out ready to stick together ☺️ I love the cap sleeve version and the fabric you’ve used ☺️
oh your sleeves are much better! well done, love your sewing lessons, you got me sewing with your tessuti patterns dress x
Really good points. I hadn't gone for this pattern (initially) either, but can see how nice it is with all these makes including yours.
Really like both your versions of the Donny Rachel but I think the cap sleeve one is definitely you! I do really like the look in a viscose, especially in that beautiful fabric, and I think I’m going to try that next as I used an embroidered cotton for my first version.
The cap sleeve works really well with the lines of the collar. I think I'd make it like that!
I really like the cap sleeve you made it is so much more flattering ! Thank you for the demo 😃👍✨🙏🏻👌💗
Rachael, both tops look great but the Cap Sleeves win. 🙌🏾
Loving the cap sleeves Rachel and I would definitely make it this way and thanks for the tutorial to do it. Loving your versions 👌💙💖😘
Hi Rachel, wasn’t too fussed on this shirt until I saw your cap sleeve version. Great job 👍🏻
Love the cap sleeve hack Rachel, it makes it look more modern, I never miss a sewl sisters vlog, but I hope you don’t mind me saying I love your personal vlogs, I learn so much from you.
Love the cap sleeve hack! I had the experience of jeans making a top look better
just last night! Thanks so much for this video! Hugs! Peggy
I like a boxy loose fit cotton or rayon top for the hot weather. I am as pale as you are, my roots being from your part of the world and a little cap on the sleeve helps prevent the sun burn. I am one of those that have some short lengths of fabric. I will give this top a try.
I love how your viscose Donny turned out! Thank you for sharing your draft. I will be attempting cap sleeves as well!
Love your last version. Sooooooooooooooooooo pretty!🥰
I love your version with the cap sleeves. Beautiful fabric and a little more modern. Thanks for tutorial.
Both tops look fabulous. I like the pattern hack, you made it look easy to do. I think I will try it for my Donny top. Thanks for sharing step by step. Much appreciated!
Love the hack thank you for showing us. The floral fabric suits you best.
Your hair looks lovely! 🌺
I too made this shirt in a navy broderie leftover fabric as a toile and had the same issue with white facings. 😊 I still love it though and will certainly wear it. I can’t wait to make more.
Use a permanent blue marker to color those white dots!
Excellent video. I couldn’t picture the cap sleeve. I’m glad you showed how you drafted it. I like both of your tops, but that second one is exceptional. The fabric is so pretty and that sleeve does look very nice on you.
Wow! What a super result for both these versions!
Love the shape of this pattern, pretty out.... slimming.
The natural wave looks beautiful on you.....
Just seeing this top. Really interested in this top. Good analysis. Hair is fine.
Wow. I had no idea I loved that pattern. You’ve completely convinced me. I love it!
Your cap sleeve version of the Donny shirt is the best Donny blouse I have seen. It becomes pretty rather than ordinary.
I miss Cheryl with Stitchy Bee too! I love both of your tops. Thank you for sharing your review and hack.
Love the viscous version.
Thanks for the review and tutorial! I think your hair is lovely.
Really lovely hack, thank you xx
They both look great, but I do see that the second one looks more like your aesthetic. When I make it I think I will make the sleeve a bit longer, then roll it with a little button tab that holds it up.
Love both of the shirts, but the flowy one and the cap sleeves are best.
Love both versions of your Donny shirt! 😍 I have the pattern but haven't sewed it yet...I I'm slowly getting back into sewing and I'm a bit scared 😮
The cap sleeve version looks stunning on you! And that fabric is wonderful 🥰 thank you for the inspiration
Lovely makes. Thank you for the detailed review ❤
Shirt looks great. You could have used organza instead of interfacing. This can be used to stabilise.
Thanks for showing us how to do the sleeve alteration. When I first saw this pattern I wasn’t sure but I do like your navy version. However, I love the cap sleeve version in the viscose fabric, that has made me think again about this pattern for me. X
Thank you for your experience I need all I can get, love your videos.
I like both of your versions of the Donny shirt. Quite cute look!
Hi Rachel firstly I love your hair.. I have curly wavy hair too and ruined it by using straightening it. I have embraced the look with the correct products..
Love love your Donay shirts you have sold it to me. The cap sleeve is more modern too thanks for sharing this xx

your sleeves look much better. It's curious as how that slightly longer length does give it a more frumpy look.
What a difference the sleeve made
Love both versions! Nice cap sleeve tutorial 🤗
Your tops are lovely on you, looks like it hits you in just the right places. I’m getting ready to make one in a bright abstract flower in cotton. It took me awhile to get on board with this pattern also. Take care!
I really relate to what your saying it took a lot of convincing till i bought the marnie blouse and the mable dress and i too only bought 1.5 mtrs of fabric too 😂😂
You could cut out mirror images for each sleeve ( like you usually make your frills) and then join them to avoid hemming.
Love the cap sleeve, looks more casual smart. ❤
I felt the same way about the Donny shirt , but love the cap sleeve option you have shown us…… your fabric stash behind you ! It’s like a shop 😝 dreamy . X x x

I love the cap sleeve version! I also prefer cap sleeves with my own blouses. The fabric is beautiful too. 😊
love both versions Rachel! ❤

Amazing, you are so inspiring x
I have mine cut out, will make the dress hack out of it.
O I much prefer the cap sleeve. Will give it a go as I was put off the pattern by the sleeves. I might even add a skirt to it for a dress.
Really liking both your Donny shirts. I love love this pattern have just finished my first version in a viscose but don’t like the sleeves on me either. Would you be able to poke an awl through the holes very carefully to get rid of the white😊

Please tell me what pattern you used for your beach pajamas in your opening?
It’s the til the sun goes down beach pyjamas
