I'm an Occupational Therapist and just used this video to help a patient with a "terrible triad" elbow fracture(s) better understand the radial head biomechanics even better than with my 3D skeleton model. Saved to my Patient Education playlist. Thanks much! I'll be exploring your other videos as well!
Randale, thank you so much for this video. I am studying kinesiology as a high school credit online and have watched this video over a dozen times. I also enjoy your the sound of your voice, very smooth and southern.
First year of orthopedic residency and i realise how little of the anatomy i still remember from my early medschool years, thank you for this resource 🙏
I am wanting to become an orthopedic surgeon. I am currently 12 years of age, and can read all 5 of the salter-harris fractures. I am really wanting to pursue my dream, and videos like this are very helpful to me. Thank you and keep up the great work!
This is the best video on elbow anatomy. Although this channel seems to be dead, last video was posted 10 years ago, if someone is reading this, can you please create a brief video animation on adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder)? Thank you.
I fractured my Radius neck by falling. I now understand my condition. I seen a bone doctor twice and he did not want to explain wtf was going on with me, just as well i took a look at my xrays. thx for the video it is very good and has brought peace of mind to me.
Thank you! I recently broke my radial head and it dislocated as well. Had surgery, now in P.T. it is slow but sure. This video has helped me understand the movement of each bone as I do my exercises.
Awesome video. I've had 3 surgeries on my elbow to remove scar tissue from a severely dialocated elbow. I have bone growth in the elbow joint next to the nerves. im restricted to 10 degrees ROM. This video helps me explain to my ortho.
Very well explained anatomy of elbow by using animation. It helps to understand the pain area. It would be more helpful if you would have added tennis elbow or golf elbow injury and treatment.
I know the shoulder is quite complex, but I didn't know the elbow was also quite complex in it's joints, in particular the radius. I didn't realise it literally spins like that. This is was truly puts the cherry on top of my belief in God. Joints like these are so complex and purposeful, I cannot comprehend how chance and mutation got to this point, and pulled it off consistently to reproduce it to where it became the dominant structure in humans. No way. We were created to be this way!
Thank you for this beautiful video about our elbows. You do explain it so that we can understand and what I'm going thought all the pain in my elbow after I broke it 3 months ago. Do you have anymore how to fix it with exercise 🤔
Can someone explain that for me in frensh or in arabic... I have This problem since tow month a go.... I dont know what happen to my arm I dont know if there is a solution for that... Please help me...
I underwent surgery two months ago. There is a stiffness in my elbow. Can it straighten out and come back to how it is? Please advise me and answer my question. Thank you
Hello Professor, I am a post student majoring in sports rehabilitation from China, I have learnt a lot from your videos that I can never in China for there are rare videos like yours in chinese website, so I wanna ask if I can translate your videos into chinese and post them on chinese website with the original links of the videos?
Any chance you help children with fractures set poorly? My son fell on an outstretched arm. The surgeon did a closed surgery for a radial head fracture and though our child had months and months of physical therapy, he can't put his palm down to keyboard, bounce a basketball, put coin in a cashier's hand etc... like he used to be able to do. Suggestions?
Good day, I dislocated my elbow joint and have fixed it through an operation, after carrying a splint for 2 months, I can only extend my hand up to 90 degree and my arms are not working properly. Please, please help.. is the a way or any ointment to reduce the stiffness and to make my arms extend and work properly again?
How interesting is it that when I wondered how the mechanics of the elbow can lock itself into place (immovable from either side by a push) at 2:30 a.m., I was able to grab my iPad, find this video, and get that information from somebody qualified to tell me, and at no charge? Damn, we have progressed.
Doctor Sechrest - my arms are very long and my wrists weak naturally, though significantly strengthened over the years. I'm a professional guitarist and other guitarists have said I need to strengthen my elbow. Is there any way to do that? It's obviously not a muscle. Thanks either way!
Clear and useful in most respects. However, having stated that a second joint enables rotation of the forearm, there's no explanation of how this action takes place, i.e. which muscles are involved.
Doc. How about 2 months elbow dislocation of a teenager boy... Falls down and dislocatedd his elbow for 2 months... Will it be treated or... Will it be back to normal?
Hey! my name is Nemat. I need help, my elbow broke when I was little 20 years ago. Can it be operated on now, does anyone know a good doctor, can anyone help me and advise me? thanks.
I need help my elbow cracks and hurts alot and when i flex my bicep bringing my arm to my shoulder it sounds like gears grinding snd cracking on eachother i hesr around 10 cracks/grinding idk whay to do
And I m watching it with 6 screws and a wire in my elbow still can't move my radius and ulna, broke my whole elbow into pieces and my x-ray after surgery doesn't look the same
I was just wondering if you could explain why i can rotate my elbow more than normal? If i put my hand palm down on a surface i can get the inner elbow facing outwards then if i turn elbow left it goes 180 degrees to be facing in again.
i cannot stress enough how helpful these animated videos are!
i realize I am kinda randomly asking but do anyone know a good site to stream new movies online ?
@Willie Erik flixportal =)
@Myles Devon thank you, I went there and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it!
@Willie Erik Happy to help =)

Really well explained! The model and animation sure help a lot as well! Thank you so much for posting!
Thank you, now I have a better understanding and comfort with performing straight arm strength training.
Excellent video! Particularly the animation at 6:44 showing how the humerus/radius/ulna intersection moves when twisting the wrist.

Very informative Video. Thanks for posting. After 3 surgeries to my elbow I have a better understanding as to the function.

same thing happened to me recently dislocated my elbow and have around 10 degrees less ROM, have you found any exercises to help with it
+jacob chow
Stretching it seems to help. Worry about strength later on. Do what your ortho or therapist says. it will take time.
Bone growth elbow recover
This is so great and well explained, thank you so much Dr. Sechrest!
wow, i couldn't find any other videos like this , thanks!

when we turn hand palm down or palm out ULNA stationary?
but when I touch it I feel it moves...
Where are you touching the ulna? It does move distally. The proximal is stationary though.
