YOU DO NOT SKIP RAMMSTEIN INTROS OR CREDITS. MORTAL SIN!
Rammstein, Industrial Metal. This song is about how they as Germans feel about bering German and its history. The black lady is symbolising Germania (Symbolic figure of Germany). Imagine a US band singing honestly about how they feel about beeing American and American history! Enjoy the rest, wonderful music, poetic texts and amazing pictures. Hello. You did quite good. Kudos.
I'm from Germany so let me give you some thoughts from someone who's born here. First of all, first time I watched the video I was shocked and deeply moved. The song/ video takes a very deep look into our german souls and how most of us feel about our country. It's a love- hate- relationship. The video is loaded with tons of symbols, that as a German you catch onto.
Let's start: in the intro you see Germania ( Personification of Germany) during roman/ germanian tribes time.
The red Lazer represents the "red thread" of the story/ history.
Astronauts from the future bringing Germania in a glass coffin (snow-white) so she can lead through the/her german history.
Next you observe the twenties(Weimar Republic). The prison scene representing the rough, violent times especially for the majority of the population struggling to survive. Money raining down/ the great depression. And Germany's first try as a democratic state. In between Germania is dressed in knight's armor awaking her knights/band with the Lazarus spear.
Next Germania is pushed in a wheelchair by the band through the Berlin Holocaust Memorial with burning bodies.
Next vignette the office scene showing east Germany and west Germany reunited (1989).
Then you're being taken back to mideveal times, monks/ church are feasting off of Germania. In most scenes you'll see some church man involved. No coincidence.
The concentration camp scene in the background you see V2 rockets ignition. The inmates are wearing different types of stars on their chests and a sign on the gallows reads: no photos. Germania wears an eye-patch first on her left, than on her right eye.
Than a quick shot of Germania dressed modern with lots of gold leading german shepherds., representing Germany's wealth.
The 70's scene shows the RAF- extremists holding Germania/ Germany hostage.
Next vignette is the witch burnings shifting to the book burning. If you have a close look, at minute 4:45 you see a church man holding up a cross hugging a Nazi, symbolising the churches over all position to the horrific events happening during 1933-1945.
The birth scene. Germania is giving birth to dogs respectively "Leonberger" a breed preferred by Kings and Queens. The Breed almost went extinct during WW1 and WW2. A cardinal helping (dressed in red) a new Germany being born.
At minute 5:50 you see the riots against refugees homes in the 90's in Hoyerswerda. Molotovs are being thrown and a car is being pushed over with the help of a man dressed in Nazi uniform.
Than the scenes/ time vignettes start shifting faster and faster, showing how many times, when circumstances becoming to extreme everything is falling apart and Germania ( dressed in knight's) armor is crying.
The outro is the piano version of the song "Sonne" which completed unfortunately you decided to skip(😉) how we feel thinking of our past: a sense of sadness.
To sum it up. Germany has a long, wild, violent, unique history, because we as a state of today exist only since 1989. Yet the roots go back a very long time. "Young and yet so old" I hope that helped a little to understand the video and with that us Germans. We don't have a strong feeling of patriotism, but a strong sense of unity.
With love from Germany 🤘 😎

I just went to my first Rammstein concert and we’re absolutely blown away. The production, quality, the theatre, circus, dark humor. It was so overwhelming I imediately booked tickets for next gig.

    • @jreyman
      @jreyman Год назад +4

"Live in Paris," I'd rank as third. "Live in Paris," while being a great performance, live, there were some special effects applied, augmenting the recorded performance, making the video look a bit campy. Had the video director, and the editor shot it clean (without any video effects), the Paris video would have been better.
Rammstein: Live in St. Petersburg, 2019, or Rammstein: Live at Madison Square Garden -- Both are excellent performances, and no special effects applied to the video, what you see is what the attending fans seen, providing as close an experience to being there, as one can have from home.

They’re a German metal band who are in business since forever (at least it feels like that). A song you may know by them is “Sonne”, but there are surely other people who have more knowledge about them.

The current tour of Rammstein simply says it all,. Amazing, incredible. They are totally taking the world by storm and fire. I was at the Minneapolis show. I'd never heard Du Hast sung by 30,000 people. Their concert is one of a kind theatre, and music. Every place the go, it's the same. Most incredible concert ever. And yet, they are humble, not egotists. At the end of their concert they got down on one knee, and bowed their heads to the audience. That was overwhelming. They were thanking the audience. Anyone who didn't go, has missed out on this one of a kind performance. I'm told they are touring through all of Europe in 2023. That's a long time on the road

Yeah, Rammstein are huge worldwide, since 1994. They sold out the New Yorker Madison Square garden within minutes multiple times, and tour with over 30 trucks. They won grammies and MTV awards. And their videos are excellent, only the best directors who also work with pop artists like Lady Gaga. So you're up to something. ^^
They had their breakthrough in the US in the 90ies, thanks to movie director David Lynch, who put their songs on his soundtracks. Rammstein also had an appearance in the movie Triple X with Vin Diesel, as themselves playing a show. They are well recognized in the US alternative scene, they are friends with Korn, Marilyn Manson, System of a down. They also played live on Jimmy Kimmel a few years ago.
i recommend 2 videos to start with.

The Sonne (Sun) instrumental at the very end credits is a form of hope after retelling the history of Germany in the video which is a bit depressing. Sonne is about the sun rising. The lyrics are also very reminiscent of their old songs too, their history. It's pretty genius all around. Tills lyrics are like dark poetry and his voice is perfect to bring that across. They've always been amazing, even since their first album. I was introduced to them in the early 90s with Du Hast on MTV! (I'm 41 lol). Their videos are always very high production too and yes, their concerts are insane. React to some Madison Square Garden lives...brace yourself lol

Rammstein is definitely the band worth checking. They are in the business for almost 30 years now and have a very unique style and vibe. They are famous for their live performances but also have high-quality videos. They are astonishing storytellers who can create multiple meanings for their songs (so it's always good to check their vids with English caps or official subs if U want to discover their full potential). Their heaviness does not necessarily lay in their music itself but more in their lyrics and visuals and how skillfully they are using controversy and cross the lines - I mean, any lines. There is no "no-go" zone for Rammstein's creativity :)

And you dont even get the BEST part of this... the lyrics. Rammstein is famous for their extremely provocative and insane texts... not so much this number, but for many others, you would even read the translation out loud in English.
You should try more Rammstein and look up the translated lyrics.
(Its always fun seeing others experience Rammstein and TOOL for the first time)

Not connecting the visuals and lyrics from this song is missing the whole point why this song exists in the first place!! This is such an important statement about their country and its history and how Germans still suffer from that daily. Some songs represent such huge historical awareness. This consciousness is seldom seen or heard of in music! The video shows a very deep look into the german soul feeling and how most of them feel about their country. It's a very tough love/ hate relationship for most I guess. Eva Libbach (who I don't know personally) has more info about the context of the song here down below. Thanks for that Eva! There are also videos on RUclips that provide more context. Thanks for doing something different this time BLAKE! This is easily becoming one of my favourite channels, so thanks for that!!! ( I'm from Holland btw and luckily have many German friends nowadays!)

The thing I love about Rammstein is that every single time I listen to a track, regardless of when it was recorded, I hear something new. Dude, I would *love* to see you look at more Rammstein!! They are absolutely phenomenal live, but are in general such an interesting band. Their texts and visuals can be crass, but are also very effective. This particular song is a reflection on conflicted feelings about coming from Germany, about how it's hard or even impossible to love it when it has been a place of so many harrowing things. Would love to see your reaction to their album "Mutter"!
Oh, and another prolific German band (that's also phenomenal live) are die Ärzte, who are more humorous but equally great with both lyrics and visuals. Their most successful album is "JAZZ IST ANDERS", but my personal favorites are "Geräusch" and "13".

The band members them self called it Tanzmetall (dancingmetall) in the early days of the band :)
