As someone who was Gold 1 at the time Ardent was released, it was nothing special. It wasn't OP and it wasn't as much of a must-have item on supports as Greaves are for ADCs. Didn't even know about the Censer meta until I saw some NA cucks ranting about it.
Justin Jake Ashton umm not op did you even watch lcs at the time practically every game came down to who got ardent first they would even go so far as to pick sona over janna/lulu if they had too it was so bad i think you even had adcs running relic to boost the speed at which they would get ardent as well it was so bad the casters said ardent so many times you could play a god damn drinking game with it that would kill your liver
oh and to add insult to injury not only did it make heals and shields better it made adcs with the meta at the time practically unkillable as well as getting free fuck tons of on hit damage and healing from another one of the passives as well it was a one man army in a item and all the support had to do to keep it going is basically spam one button
It doesnt go that way mate. But it surely is OP when every damn team in every region contested the supports that can utilise ardent censer and rush it first item. That is the signal of brokeness.
Talks about Darius' ult being so busted it led to some unbelievable pentakills... Shows clip of Soaz wrecking people after using ult once and failing it.
yeah the meta was so diverse that junglers didnt even need to think about what to pick since there were literally no choices whatsoever, 4 champs at 90% p/b, kalista completely dictating how the botlane went, 4 support picks with lulu having to get banned once in a while vs 3 tank supports, the only diverse thing was midlane (which still had azir available) The P&B was so predictable, just like every draft depending who they left open
Jan Gasser ikr, I loved watching that worlds. The 10 - 15 minute dragon and botlane fights were just way more exciting than teams picking champs to have sidelane pressure and shove advantage
Mhhhhn actually was fun to watch a game with Mordekaiser or Gangplank or Darius, watching everybody rushing on Lulu Kogmaw and Janna is not fun to watch/play
Morde played 4 times one of which got remake and gp played 4 times... the only juggernaut that you could possibly have a chance against was Darius and even then his healing was impossible to deal with and was using tank items way too well resulting in the champion getting 3 or 4 pentakills in the tournament
Can confirm. He was in a broken state for about a year before they gutted the passive and then reworked him into his current state a few months later. Walk up, press W, 100-0 a decently csed mundo with nullmagic+ruby through ult at level 6 with just tear. God I loved that champ. For all the 'mechanics' he had, he had 0 decision making to do. You walk at them, they either die, or you fuck up your mechanics.
"HEALTHIER WORLDS" im not sure if this is a joke or whatever, but 2017 worlds was a disaster, especially the grand finals, literally 20 minutes in and 0 first bloods. H E A L T H Y
Teams play league like a fighter game, Samsung play it like a strategy game. They can't macro in this clown fiesta of a meta and as a result they are awful right now
Worlds 2015 meta was fun for a casual esports fan because of the diverse champion pool. But in a professional and objective level, it was mad. Like they said at the end, it felt an insane change that it did felt unfair for various teams. Say what you want about Censer meta of last year, but at least it was one 'busted thing that everyone had to deal while in 2015 they had to deal with 5 problems at every game.
Agreed. And the champion pool was only diverse at the beginning because teams were looking for answers to all the crazy changes. And it basically threw away all the strengths and strategies that teams used to win their own regions, making the journey to worlds somewhat null and void.
3:30 It is worth noting that said Gragas bug (which was indeed gamebreaking) had been reported several times through a lot of means to Riot Games, yet they decided not to ban Gragas from the begining because it was "a one in a thousand possibility". This led to a huge difference in junglers between the ones that had literally wasted hours in practicing a champion they could not play and junglers that had avoided the champion entirely.
for ppl saying ardent meta, ardent was buffed on patch 7.2 and no one abused it til worlds, (including summer playoffs) how was riot supposed to see that coming. To nerf ardent just before worlds would be as game breaking as juggernaut, its just that no one had realized how good it was yet.
Justin Kushi lol i used it every game playing supp. I even remember to convience my friends to buy it instead of redemption or whatever I always said “just fucking read what it does :D”
Competitive is marketing for riot, imagine how many people buy the champion when they see how busted it is. Same with every new champ being strong, strong champ =more purchases
Am I the only one that enjoyed watching 2015 worlds probably it was super fun bc of all the different champs picked and stuff. It was rlly fln entertaining
You forgot to mention Kalista which also had >70% pick/ban ratio becausevof his syngery with support and strengh in 2v2 fights. Also she was ban for the BLUE side, cuz after picking OP champ they had to let her enemy.
And it was the last fun Worlds to watch, aggressive, imbalanced and overall fun. Nowadays everyone either quit due to the amazing "balance" Riot created or are just torturing themselves, waiting for the time when Riot will again make another "mistake".
Ahh the nostalgia. Mordekaiser literally oneshotting everyone... Darius pentakill in every game... Skarner drifting in the jungle... Garen spinning to win...
Ardent Meta killed Mordekaiser APC When ADCs started taking Relic Shield as a starter riot decided to nerf it the patch after... This was a huge nerf to Mordekaiser and a slight change to ADCs...
Teams did qualify for Worlds on a patch with an all-powerful Gankplank. Fnatic versus Origen in the EULCS Summer Final for example was so close because Soaz mastered the champ very quicky where Huni could not. Soaz dumpstered Huni on GP, when Huni got to play GP it was underwhelming at best. Also, Darius was comming in strong, but Gnar quickly rose in popularity as a massive counter. That's why it only has that 50% winrate. The immobilty of the Juggernauts also created an unique meta, with C9 playing Veigar in a weird siege comp and Xpeke shutting down the champs without dashes on Anivia. There were problems (Mordekaiser!), but is wasn't that bad compared to last Worlds.
let's not forget that 2015 was also the most entertaining world championship to watch, thanks to the diversity in the champs, an actually interesting knock out round, and the fact that we got to see many players carry games, not just mid or adc, the only other world championships I'd say that are equally as fun to watch s3 and s8, because the rest were either dominated by tanks or supports, leading to boring matches
Darius was quite strong before the juggernaut updates and not to mention that his kit change only in passive, Q and E. His R have already too powerful since the beginning. Still remember back when LOL released Darius I played him and immediately got penta kill thanks to the his Noxian Guillotine.
To be perfectly honest, I feel like they should do this more often. Pretty much every team has an established understanding of what is there and what works so it feels stale since we rarely get to see off worlds meta picks. Doing this more frequently would IMO test the team flexibility, ability to adapt and resourcefulness which would in turn make the game more competitive in any LCS type thing and more fun to watch, as opposed to them pushing missions into the game that say, watch a vod of our stale pro gameplay where if someone falls behind irelia or akali they can just ff the game.
I remember being at the world's quarter finals involving the Grag bug it was quite funny considering one team had mord and the other gp so one was guaranteed to lose there 100% win rate, untill ofc Grag broke it all :p only real problem was we kinda just sat there while they worked out what to do which kinda killed a bit of the hype was still an awesome time though
Even though playing during the meta was hard, it was still fun. Because people still liked to play their own champions. I saw the biggest diversity of champions in solo queue than I’ve seen in all the time I play league. Now, it’s always a single meta with basic picks, and on the few occasions I do see niche picks, I find those games most enjoyable and more challenging
If something has to be OP, immobile melee champions are probably the least detrimental to the game. OP assassins are not fun, OP ADC's ROFLstomp, and OP mages prevent you from getting close enough to play the game, but juggernauts can always be played around to some extent no matter how over-tuned. Juggernaut META wasn't perfect, but I enjoyed it more than anything from that point forward.
Ah yes, the juggernaut patch, those were the days. People coming planning, Mord can out level you and can have a pet dragon, skarner running towards you at the speed of light while being tanky and doing damage, Darius being unkillable and getting constant pentas, and my elo/mmr dropping as low as my IQ.
Not gonna lie, but I miss the crazy 1v1 toplane fights that have been around this years, except this one. I miss those Jayce-Rumble or Fiora-Darius man
"thats probably worth one messy turnament" well no its not when you consider how few international turnaments there is and that litterally every single analyst and expert had said for years that big patches before worlds was a bad idea. The old notion "atleast you learn from your mistakes" only make sense if litterally everyone didn't already tell you that you are making a mistake....
I like it when riot stirs up pro play, yeah pros will be at a disadvantage but ALL pros will have to adapt making it fair, in a game about adaptability. At the end of the day esports is just entertainment and 2015 was fun to watch.
I mean... As a viewer I really enjoyed worlds 2015. It was a lot of fun seeing all the broken stuff and crazy games and althoug it wasn't the best patch for the pros it was definetly the most entertaining worlds ever.
The "Hey, we give you a Champion, where a Diamond V Player can get a Pentakill at the biggest Tournament" Patch idea was soooo dumb... Btw: the only reason why Mordekaiser wasn't 100% Pick/Ban was because SKT left him open once and tricked the enemy into thinking, that kkOma had a counter strategy... yapp, that actually happened...
All the people complaining about ardent censor meta clearly neither paid attention during the video and had no understanding of the game in S5. The fundamental problem with juggernauts was that these champions are so powerful that they completely broke the game. And as the red team you cannot allow them into the game, meaning that you have no business playing them on red side. The Ardent Censor meta was different. There is a large number of supports and ADCs who could use Ardent. Lulu, Janna, Sona, Soraka, Rakan, even Morgana, Karma and Taric could do just fine, similarly goes with Caitlyn, Vayne, Kog'Maw, Varus, Twitch, Tristana and Xayah. It ruled out some possibilities, sure, but you can just buy the ardent on either side of the map, and you are not on that huge of a disadvantage, not to mention that people played non-Ardent bot lane and turn out just fine. World S5 is definitely one of the worst worlds ever. It created a false illusion of a 'diverse' meta, but that is really because there are a few on the top of the tier that nobody can afford to let out, and other things are pretty much the same. It was not because those picks are all viable, but rather because the viable picks are out of reach. Teams are not prepared for that game and players did not have time to change their play style. SKT was lucky to have Marin, one of the most talented aggressive top lane players this game has ever seen. Most other top laner played tank top for the entire season only to be met with this in Worlds. It was a Worlds that went seriously out of hand.
And then last year, we had the infamous Ardent Censer patch.
As someone who was Gold 1 at the time Ardent was released, it was nothing special. It wasn't OP and it wasn't as much of a must-have item on supports as Greaves are for ADCs. Didn't even know about the Censer meta until I saw some NA cucks ranting about it.

Dr.Dylan`s game LCS people use it so it's OP? Infallible logic.
It doesnt go that way mate. But it surely is OP when every damn team in every region contested the supports that can utilise ardent censer and rush it first item. That is the signal of brokeness.

Most other top laner played tank top for the entire season only to be met with this in Worlds. It was a Worlds that went seriously out of hand.
