Not possible the korean playoff bracket doesn't have different sides. They are about the same as the gauntlet for seed 3 for worlds in the west. The lowest team to reach playoffs plays the second lowest, the winner plays the third lowest and so on until you reach the first seed of regular season in the finals. Meaning skt was already waiting for them in the finals.

Any team in 2015 LPL would need tons of preparation if they are to beat EDG, so it's quite understandable that LGD tried to do it the long way around. If they meet EDG in the first round of playoff, their fate will be no different from IG.
Great video, but just one thing, neither team in the England vs Belgium team tried to lose, they just weren't bothered about winning because it was a meaningless game to get 3rd place in the world cup
They meant the duel in the group stage.. 1st place would get in the bracket with all the strong nations and 2nd place would get in the bracket where croatia would be strongest.. Neither of them wanted 1st place as 2nd place would mean easy road to the final.. Easy if you aren’t as awful as England..
@@Kelvin-nt1jc Not gonna lie, completely forgot about that game, my bad. If only Kane squared it to Sterling in the first half we would have won the Croatia game and gone to the final, still haven't forgiven him tbh

I mean they both lost 3-0 to EDG so they were not wrong. Why would you intentionally get knocked out early when you can make it to the finals? That'll get them better players in new seasons, better sponsors etc. because it looks good on paper, making it easier to win in the next years.
idk about you but the legend tells that there was a team known as Mineski that played in worlds and didnt win a single game from anyone. This series isnt as bad as the folk tale.
That's because wildcard teams were expected to go winless at worlds. Winning even a single game was an overwhelming upset. That's no longer the case today, especially since ANX's quarters appearance, but that was the norm pre-S6.
So basically lgd and ig tried to lose because they dont want to face edg in the play off? Do they use single elimination bracket? Because in double elimination/winner-loser bracket, yoi can get another chance at the play off on the play off. So it's not necessary to dodge edg
Due to the size of the LPL teams were seeded into two separate playoff brackets. The brackets were determined by regular season performance. However, the teams were just in one large pool for the regular season, as the LPL only had 16 teams back then. The problem was that you actually ended up with the better teams all on the same side; this error was promptly fixed the next split. However, Tencent's negligence did result in this hilarious fiesta. Note: This is no longer a problem as the LPL expansion to 20 teams means teams are pooled separately even in the regular season.
Doing this in dota gets you permanently banned from valve events. First time some player threw game he got banned for year or two(something like that forgot now). Then Valve made sure everyone know that future throwing will result in permanent ban. iBuyPower from CSGO experienced this. Esports became serious thing you could potential look at prison sentence for fixing matches.
Marko Lomovic completely different circumstances and intentions. The Dota 2 and CSGO professionals were permanently banned because they threw their games after placing bets against themselves. iG and LGD were sandbagging because they wanted to get an easier bracket path in the playoffs.
Street Guru as response to the original comment, yes this event has somewhat happened before, but with a different context. The best example I could think of is Na’Vi with nothing to play for in the Dota Asia Championships in 2015. Already guaranteed to progress from the wildcard qualifiers, they went for a clown draft against Wings, picking a Pudge-Tiny-Techies. It wasn’t sandbagging for position, it wasn’t throwing for money, it was clowning with nothing to play for. And generally, position means everything in Dota groups. For example, in The International, top seed of the group gets to pick their opponent from the 3rd/4th from the other group. If you sandbag, you might end up 5th, and in the lower bracket. So there’s little to no reason to lose on purpose.
there have been times neither team has cared if they won or lost (like in qualifiers, if both teams are qualified and there is random seeding) but never has one tried to lose intentional besides for match rigging (getting paid to lose by betters or betting against your own team to make money if you lose)
It's definitely less likely to happen in dota 2 as well due to the fact that most major tournaments are double elimination rather than the single elimination that league likes to use. That means that even if you get a bad opponent matchup after group stage seeding, you can always fall back into the lower bracket and work your way through the tournament from there.

Nah everybody knew the LPL consisted of non-stop fights and aggression. LPL teams significantly changed, however, after Season 5 worlds, when China's representatives all under-performed.
