    • @truracer20
      @truracer20 10 месяцев назад

@@robertsmith2956 I never have to worry about locking my smart key in the car, I just keep it clipped to my belt or in my pocket. Of course I own a Toyota so I don't worry about the associated parts failing, I mean they can but it's rare, the console shifter already requires an electric interlock that rarely ever fails on any brand. And the Toyota system (I don't know how GM operates because I won't own a modern GM) reduces wear and tear on the key fob, I only have to touch the door handle to lock or unlock the car. As far as run position goes it's just a tap of the button without a foot on the brake.

One of the hardest things to find when I was an aircraft electrician was a wire that had just enough strands to show continuity but could not carry a load. In those situations a simple test light setup was often more helpful than the fancy test equipment. The only thing more frustrating was when there was intermittent contact. Often a problem would occur under certain g-loads and work fine when the wing flexed and contact was restored. I've seen several of your videos where you've had to deal with similar situations with the cars you work on. Your patience and ability to follow some complex and often erroneous wiring diagrams is commendable. Thoroughly enjoy your channel.

Paused at 3:20 I'm not sure if your aware of this Ivan. But ALL GM's with push button start, you have to hold the start button for 5 seconds to get the switch into run position.
Nice work finding that broken wire. They are not always so easy to find. But it never ceases to amaze me when a customer just want's one thing addressed, when the car has a laundry list of problems still.

Usually you just press the start button twice without pressing the brake. That will turn the ignition on without starting the engine on pretty much every car with a push to start button. Some cars you would just press once, and pressing and holding would get you accessory. It's pretty much going to be one of those combinations.

There's no engine of course and I tried to run it koeo and in service mode and any other mode in between lol. Turns out it's just a software glitch coz it was actually in calibration mode I just needed to drive it lol. I got frustrated and passed it on to another tech coz I was in the middle of a 22 crv main harness swap. I was pulled off that job to do a "quick" calibration. Ya right it's never quick lol. It's just gm ain't caught up with the released versions of the program to make it work like it should so if ya'll run across that just drive the dang thing😅 I've worked on cars with 53 miles on em and they have me strip them down to the unibody so the structural techs can go at it, two months later I gotta come back and reassemble the whole car and I'm a mobile tech so it can get interesting to say the least

You are SO RIGHT about the drawings! It was the same way in my line of work - and most guys had some sort of aversion to using the drawings - which really limited their success. Yes, a drawing can be wrong some times - but I would always mark up a hard copy and get to the right person for updating. It really helped me the next time I worked on that equipment. Funny that the ECM monitors the hot wire that way - I incorrectly figured the coil primary was fed by a fuse, and the ECM monitored the other coil wire for voltage when it was not being pulled low. I always make the wrong assumption!

Besides the short roll of tape, something to add to the fix box is some inner tube rubber and a razor knife. The inner tube cut to a patch strip, put a pair of slits about 1/2" apart near one end, thread in a zip tie(s), wrap the rubbing harness with the non-zipped end, rolling, and fasten the zip ties, to make a rubber buffer between harness and sharp edges. Also, keep some hockey tape on hand, it is the black cloth tape from the sporting goods supplier. Works great on harness looming.

Here in the UK I have a little Vauxhall Corsa, a GM product that recently developed a misfire on number two cylinder at low rpm, when you rev the engine the misfire goes away, if you let it idle and misfire for more than about 20 sec it will shutdown the injector on that cylinder to protect the engine and cat, sounds to me like the Cadillac could do with something similar! Thanks Ivan for all your videos I have learned a lot, mostly to take stock of the problem and not jumping to conclusions and start tearing things apart before proper investigation.

I would imagine that as this wire wore through it would give an increasing rate of misfires. If the owner just ignored it and kept powering through that would feed unburnt fuel through the cat, until it failed. Thus the cat may have been throwing codes and needed replacement as a secondary failure to the ignition problem. It is one of those reasons why problems should be fixed and not ignored.

How are push button Starts "stupid"? It's a modern car, a seemingly old timey key barrel to put a key in and turn would functionally do nothing different here - just sends a signal one of the many control modules. But of course Ivan knows this :D
Having concerns about the security of key proximity sensing systems to enable the push button.... that I can understand. Amplification attacks to boost your key signal from your house to the car in the driveway etc. have been going on for years among several other shortfalls.
All that said, the convenience of walking up to the car with a large box in your hands, the key in your pocket and being able to open the boot (trunk) without having to put the box down, get out the key, press a button etc. is great.... particularly the cars you can do this and just wave a toe under the rear bumper and the powered boot door opens itself.
Great convenience, just loads more to go wrong as it ages :(

Nice diagnosis. Apply solder to the heated wire to avoid a cold solder joint, not the iron. Hard to do in a tight spot.

I'm glad you taught Ivan how to solder. Try to solder in a awkward position, gloves on, freezing your ass off, and trying to video at the same time.

You must have some melted solder on the iron tip to aid in heat transfer to the wire itself... Just a tip 😉

@@PineHollowAutoDiagnosticsyeah, can't exactly solder with a dry soldering iron tip. Need some on there to get the heat flowing.

What's the customer's beef? Lots of cars, motorcycles and even trikes run on three cylinders!😂 GM sure stuffed that harness between a rock and a hard place. I have one of those soldering pencils too. I power mine with a motorcycle battery and special adapter. Lastly, from running on only three cylinders and dumping fuel into the dead ones, I'm thinking there may be gasoline in the crankcase along with the oil, so the oil level is too high. Do an oil change. That might fix the smoke problem.

Hey Ivan! I also have a Thinktool Pros, bought one a few months back since it seems to work so well for you, love it. I don't believe I've ever seen the CAN designations on the Smart Scan. Is this only on newer cars? Mine is an '06 and I've worked on an '07.

Hey Ivan good video, after watching it something dawned on me. You mentioned in the video you have to start the engine to get the accessories to turn on? Did you try to press the start button twice only and not put your foot on the brake pedal? I assumed that is the way to get the accessories to turn on only and not the engine. I just went outside and tried it on my neighbors 2023 Chevy Trax and that car was able to do that. I am sure this is past tense now but I would recommend trying this on your next GM vehicle. Good luck and thanks for the videos:) Udachi!

Maybe my electrical tape has not been a good quality? It seems like it eventually starts to unwind, especially when exposed to heat, such as in engines. I now use a zip tie to finish electrical tape repairs.

I wonder what the engine oil looks like. Probably loaded with gas too. Also, this is why diagnosis repairs take so long because of all the research that needs to be done before touching the vehicle. That is something that is lost in the general public at times.
