Good honest findings here Tom. Good to see you not just blindly jump on the Springbank fanboy bandwagon. (not to say I'm not a fan as I absolutely love the stuff and just wish I could get my hands on some more!). Interesting you say about temperature. I've never really noticed it before, but if I'm honest, if I think a whisky tastes different from one taste to the next, I just put it down to my taste buds and never really thought about temperature difference. One famous whisky expert, Jim Murray, even heats his whisky up by putting his glass in a bowl of boiling water before drinking!
Haha cheers bud! I’m not sure warm is the best way for me personally based on this. Will be interesting to see if it comes back to form in a few months!
The whisky has just oxidised in the bottle which all whiskies do over time. It will change again over more time which isn't a problem. Temperature variation in the UK won't harm the whisky, just don't leave it in direct sunlight which will really alter the flavour to the point of no return.
They’re all kept in the dark for 99% of the time so no worries there. Will be interesting to see if this changes back again as the temperatures drop. Cheers!
Really interesting experiment! I love this Springbank although I prefer the 15 and 18. Peated scotch is my love but Campbelltown scotch expressions are lovely!
I'm not totally convinced by this theory. Temperature is a factor in the drinking experience for sure but I suppose the fill level and time has played a bigger role here. The first bottle I had, I was living in Vietnam (not exactly cool) and it was whopper. It'll be interesting to see your updates in the autumn and winter.
Yes I do, certainly when drinking them off camera. Occasionally I do it when filming if I think it’ll really help but I often find water helps less on a fresh bottle as it can amplify some of that ethanol burn that needs time and oxygen to dissipate.

Agreed ! Summer heat / temperature changes the profile of Malts - a lot !
Glad I’m not the only one!

Will be doing the same with the 15 Year Old soon! Cheers!
@@TheCrumbyBeard Yay!!! Exciting!! 🙂
How hot was it at the time? I'm in Florida and regularly drink my whisky at about 77f/25c room temperature.
95f / 35c in the room - actually colder outside; our houses aren’t made for summers 😂

Very valid! I’m certainly not stating it as a fact, but it’s the only notable difference I can work out. Next update will be October so we shall see!
When will you be doing an update on the bottles you have?
Every bottle on the shelf? I will get something sorted soon!
In the States are selling them for close to $ 200 a bottle, ridiculous since in Europe you can find them for less and half that
To be honest it's getting close to that here now unless you get very lucky. Apparently mainland Europe is a bit easier from what many have said!
Do you ever add a drop of water to your whisky?? It's seriously worth a go, the Whisky can change enormously.

Why didn't you just test your theory by sticking your glass in the fridge for 15 minutes and re tasting it at a colder temp??
Because apparently I wasn't feeling that intelligent on the day - I blame the heat! 😂
