  • I am finally reviewing the Springbank 10 Year Old. Springbank 10 year old is a Campbeltown Single Malt Scotch Whisky made by the Springbank Distillery and currently, one of the most popular whiskies on the market. This Single Malt Scotch Whisky is Non Chill-filtered, natural colour, bottled at 46% and matured in 60% Ex-Bourbon Casks, 40% Sherry Casks. Does Springbank 10 year old live up to the hype as one of the best bottles on the market, or does it fall flat due to high expectations? Watch this Single Malt Scotch Whisky review to find out about some of the history of Springbank distilllery and to find out if this whisky is one of the best Scotch Whisky options for you. Cheers.

    Hi Matt
I totally agree with you on springbank, and the core range whisky's from springbank, I'm lucky enough to have 2 bottles of the 10year old and a bottle of the 12year old cask strength, the 15year old and a bottle of the 18year old unopened, I have a bottle of the 10year open, and was drinking it as I watched your video, it's very hard to find it anywhere in my area, the bottle of 18year old I picked up in 2019, and haven't seen it again, I payed $250.00 for that bottle, and I'm sure I can't find it again for that price, I don't know when or if I will ever open it, but it's tempting. I can say that I had 2 bottles of the 12year old cask strength and drank one bottle, and it was fantastic, the problem with springbank now is they have gone to no boxes and only 700 ml's now, so for me I'm keeping my boxes, they come with tissue paper around the bottles, I guess you can find older bottles that have boxes, but not where I live, from New Mexico.
    Frank H.
    Cheers fellow !!!

Perfect way to watch a Springbank 10 Year review absolutely is to drink Springbank 10 with it! The Springbank 12 is a special bottle in it's own right. Who am I kidding, they pretty much all are. Glad you're stocked up pretty decently with the springers. It would be a tall task to find another 18 at $250. I'd savour that bottle. Yeah, there are few if any left that have a box. I have some older 10's, 15's and a 12 with a box. Cheers Frankie 🥃

Hi Matt, thanks for mentioning the "guava" note, that is the first fruit note (in a very complex nose) that I noticed in my Springbank 10 (July 2023 batch) 😂

Springbank 10 was my first bottle of my current collection. Got it due to Ralfy's score of (also) 90, which is high praise from him. Had to whoa back on drinking it as I developed a "leak" in the bottle, and before I knew it, it was down to a quarter! Might have a dram of it this weekend and get reacquainted.

Great review, Matt ! And no, never apologize for talking about genuine whisky like this one, please...especially as your passion for this distillery/expression here shines greatly & coming across as genuine as well. It is one of my 10 favorite distilleries & I'm happy for you that will be having soon the occasion to visit it (alas I still didn"t yet) & I'm sure you'll have a blast there. I had the chance to discover this distillery's products around 20 years ago & with this expression as well (that's why I did celebrate that milestone recording a special video, special for me at least, this year, with 4 different batches of the Ten, plus a surprise discontinued old "100 Proof" version of it) & it is fascinating to see so many batch variations but to embrace em all, always or almost, as a variation on a theme rather than thinking of consistency that would be equivalent to quality as often referred for so many other brands. In other words (& sure it is my opinion, not always shared), for me quintessential Springbank is the 10 yo & is batch variation embraced & glorified here...Having had the chance to also discover some legendary bottlings throughout the years personal discovery or through collectors friends, shows, etc...It is for me probably the most impressive one in terms of having a disarming ability to seduce our palate whatever (ok, or almost) recipe the distillery will come with...Ok I stop there, but I could speak about them for hours...Cheers to your review & to your future visit, enjoy it at the max ! 🥃

Thanks for the wonderful comment Greg. Glad it's one of your favourites too, I've heard great things about that old 100 proof. I'm sure you'll be visiting Campbeltown yourself sooner rather than later! The Springbank 10 really does encapsulate quite perfectly what we love about this distillery. It's really hard to reach past it! Cheers Greg 🥃

A very good take on SB10 Matt. It is unfortunate that quality producing distillery that SB is, they cannot produce enough to go around at a reasonable price. I was lucky enough to get my hands on one bottle of SB10. Your review has me now really looking forward to opening it one of these days. As for the availability and price, it is a rare find and it's a thin inventory when it does show up. It would be dream come true to stock up a couple of these beauties but it's only that a wishful thinking at the moment.

Another crackerjack vid Matt. Thank you sir! I have never been able to try anything from Springbank sadly. However I have some very fond memories of Campbeltown as a kid, as one of my grandmother's lived not far from there, in a tiny place called Southend. We used to go into Campbeltown for caps for our cap guns and fishing tackle. Some of the best fighting brown trout in the streams around there. All the rivers are a translucent brown colour from all the peat they run through, which give the fish a fantastic flavor. Ah, fond memories 😊 It would be heaven, if it wasn't for the bloody midges. How can something so small, cause so much exasperation!

My pleasure James, glad you enjoyed it! Oh man, you are tempting me to bring my fishing rod with me take my best shot at a peat flavoured Brown Trout! Those are some great memories to hold on to. As for these midges.... I've heard they're worse than mosquitoes. I hate mosquitoes. Trip Cancelled! Cheers James 🥃

I have a 2019 bottle that I got at MSRP and I honestly don't get a huge difference from the Hazelburn 10 2020. They are both citrus lemon bombs with a hint of funk, maybe.
If we believe the hype, that the newer batches are better I'm still not convinced that it's worth double what I paid. We are deep in the range of most 15 year olds at $110-130.😂
With this impression in mind, while on vacation in 2021 I found a stash of 2017 core releases soon after I opened my bottle. At the time I never thought I would ever fork over $300 for whisky. So I only bought 1 backup bottle of Kilkerran 12 for $62. And down the street was LR NAS for $59.
6 months later, they were all on the shelf and the SB10 hype was just starting so being an age snob I bought another KK12.
One more year later, the shop changed hands and most of the bottles were still there prices at $61.99. I didn't see the SB at first so I bring a Hazelburn to the counter and the computer says $125. I point at the price tag and the girl calls the owner. $125.
    LR NAS 62 ,ok
Then I find 3 SB10's all laser etched 2017, with 2 different $62 price tags. I bring them all up to the counter and the computer scan says $130. She calls the owner again as I'm laughing and I walk out with one bottle of LR NAS.
I could have been sipping on that every day for $62.
My luck has been with the 12 year for the last 4-5 batches. And my kinda crazy would allow me to spend $200 for that cask strength and not $125 for the 10 year old. I just think age and ABV do matter

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast
      @whiskyonthewestcoast  Год назад

Hey Jack! I can definitely taste the similar DNA between the HB10 and SB10.
That is a crazy journey with that liquor store. It's really almost comically bad with those unmarked markups! It's like they are going out of their way not to move those bottles.
Getting a 12 Year is quite a bit of luck, let alone multiple batches. The SB 12 CS is worth every bit of the extra premium, might be the best(accessible) Springbank out there. The age and ABV do really matter like you said. Cheers 🥃

It's getting bleak, both on the allocation and the prices. $130 is too much I think for this bottle. It seems to trade $150+ on secondary(Ew, gross words to say) which once again, is too much. Hope you find some closer to MSRP in the near future. Cheers 🥃

Firehoses flooded the cabinet part way up the label so when I recovered 4 weeks later the label didn't survive unscathed, though the whisky was still perfect inside! Cheers 🥃

So hard to get these in Quebec. I ‘’won’’ the opportunity to buy a 12 year old cask strength a year or two ago which I have still not opened, but otherwise you have to win these lotteries with demand far outstripping supply by an exponential factor. Last lottery I put 13 different products in my cart and won the opportunity to buy….zero. Gotta order from outside the province and risk going to jail sitting beside a murderer. ‘’Whatcha in for? Oh, chopping up my neighbours and eating them in a stew, you?’’
Me: Buying a bottle of Springbank and bringing it in across the provincial border’’

    • @whiskyonthewestcoast

I'm looking forward to the day you open that 12 Year! The SB12 might be the best of the core range depending on the batch. That said I feel for you on the lottery. I've had no luck for years in the B.C. lotteries. Hopefully both of our lucks change soon and that neither of us have to become bunk-mates with Hannibal Lecter because of a Springbank. Cheers 🥃

Springbank 10 get's better every time I come back to it after having tasted other whiskies. Absoluty stands alone and on top of it's category. But what is a category? It competes and beats whiskies beyond it's price and age range. So tell me where to compare it with...
