I have indeed tried the flatlock seam on my Singer. My instructions are a little different, though, they have you sew with the wrong sides together and the back side then ends up with what looks like a little ladder. There's also a way to make a decorative flatlock look where there isn't a seam. I've played with it a little, still need to practice on the tensions!😁All your toasters are beautiful!
@@runningsewandsew oh, I thought mine was just different (blush) I will trust my instructions. 😁 You have inspired me to give it another go, as I did order some of that double-sided - navy and gray - knit that Peggy has on her website, and it's shown with that kind of seaming. Of course I want one just like it haha! I so love watching your videos! 🥰
Hello Judi. Thank you for another great video, it is lovely to see you (as always..). I have the basic Brother overlocker (2544D) and after watching this video, I got out my manual for my overlocker and there were no instructions on how to do a flat lock seam. However, undeterred I looked up on RUclips and sure enough, I found a great video on how to do the flat lock seam and it is EASY. So I will be giving this method a go for when I start making more active wear and other suitable garments.
Love the toaster sweater, I have made 3 with that view which is my fav and 1 with the boat neck not my fav. I have a new Janome 3000pro coverstitch so I will be attempting a top cover on my next toaster. Good information Judy and beautiful sweater. Nice snd light.
Totally agree, we need to get to our machines and get the best of out of them. I got the phaff quilt ambition 365 in November. Even my sister who got an overlocker for Christmas is having a 1-2/1 lesson for her overlocker
Thanks for the great tutorial Judi! I’m going to go and check my manual now. I hope my Janome does flat locking. I really like the look and your Toaster sweater is amazing ❤😃
I have had a serger since the 80’s, and yes, we did flatlocking back then. Had a White 534. Wish I still had it…..but love my Babylock air threading! (Have the Celebrate)
Take a look on RUclips to see if there are any tutorials. I have the very basic Brother overlocker and I looked in the manual and there are no instructions on how to do these seams. So, I looked on RUclips and found a video with my exact model, so have a look and see what you can find. Good luck
Your toaster is lovely! May I ask how much length you added to the body of the sweater? The length on yours is perfect and I know the pattern is somewhat cropped.
Thanks for the great tutorial Judi. I have the same overlocker but haven’t tried that technique yet. What brand of overlocker cones do you buy and where to you get them from? I need to stock up! Thank you.
Hi Judi - should all overlockers have that facility or perhaps not? I have a Jaguar and though I've read the manual a couple of times, I don't remember seeing reference to flatlocking... Thank you.
Here is the link if anyone has the same overlocker as I have (Brother 2544D "the basic model): ruclips.net/video/jo3BDr278Nw/видео.html love to Poppy and Maggie xxxx
Totally agree Judi. I’m always looking at my manuals. I have the same overlocker and it is fab. Thanks for a great video
My pleasure I'm so pleased you enjoyed it. xx
Wow Judi , what a fabulous tutorial . I have the same wonderful overlocker & now thanks to you I’ve learned more of what it can do . Thank you . 😊
Thank you Andrea …there are some variations of the flat lock seam that the machine offers …. Trying those next xx
Awesome! I’ve been hoarding your video until I had plenty of time to watch and enjoy it. Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you!
I’m a manual reader as well but I sometimes forget everything my machines can do. Thanks for the reminder to see what I’ve been missing!
Thank you so much for watching x

We all agree with getting the best from our manuals xx
I’m ready to try using flat locking more
It’s great x

Oh the air threading is amazing x
Cute shirt, very versatile.
Thank you xx
Love that look, Judy. Will definitely try it. I'm sure you mean wrong sides together though? X
Apologies
Easily done. Speaking, doing, filming can't be easy at all!
Thank you … such a great blog - unfortunately my overlocker doesn’t do flat lock seams - but i still found this useful xx
Thank you

Great video more activewear please and also pattern ideas and where to get activewear fabric from 😁 x
Will do xxxx

Approximately 2 - 3 inches - hope this helps xx
@@runningsewandsew Thank you. I'm a little late to the Toaster game but want to try it soon.

I'm really lazy and just tend to go to Amazon or David Drummond Sewing Machines .... they are immense.xxx
@@runningsewandsew Thank you.
I am great user of my manuals, why clutter up my brain with more junk when I can get out my manual.
And paper manuals are best xx
My Janome 9300S overlocker is brilliant but very much entry level so doesn't do flat lock or two thread.
On most overlockers it's just a change to tension and stitching length or width. Sew over it do a fab tutorial 😊
Hi and do search your overlocker on YT xxx

You need more (or maybe better lighting).
Good content though.
Thank you for watching …. I am but a mere amateur enjoying the opportunity to share my love of sewing ….. I do my best with what I have
