Very cute sweaters, especially the pink one! I do enjoy fabric haul videos:) I've used various stretch stitches on my knits. I always test on a scrap piece if it's unfamiliar fabric. Usually I sew a basting stitch to check fit and then either use a narrow zigzag (1.5) or trim the seam and use my overcast foot (so it looks like serging). I like using a double needle or (most often) 1/2 "steam a seam lite 2" for quick hems on knits (and if I'm getting unsightly tunnelling no matter what I do, lol).
Rikki B oh, these are great details, thanks! I love hearing the exact number (1.5) on the zig zag- because when people say “narrow” I always think- but what number do you mean by that!! Lol
I just made version 2 using a jersey knit. Love it!! Its so comfy. I used walking foot, ballpoint needle and stretch stitch on my sewing machine. Worked out fine but can be tricky. I don't have a serger....yet😊
Great video! LOL! Can you tell I’m “binge” watching your videos to get caught up! I’m new to RUclips and loving it too! You are so correct...it’s a very supportive and fun community! I love sewing with knits, but being honest with you, my serger probably gets more use than my sewing machine! I felt like you too...I didn’t think I needed it. But once I got it...sewing life changed forever! I just love your personality too!
1SewSweet hee hee- I love to binge watch, too! I’ll go sub to your channel- have you posted your first video yet? I’ve been stalking sergers on Craigslist. My resolve is weakening! ;)
And Sew On Lisa thank you! Yes I’ve created another channel under my name “MyraLorraine”. I have an older serger I’ve had for over 1 years (Singer). So I am looking to replace it with that ever popular Brother 1034D 3/4 Thread. I do enjoy using my serger. If you don’t find a good one on Craigslist for under $200 I would recommend taking a look at it. It goes on sale sometimes (currently at $207.02). I am hoping it will for Black Friday! Good Luck!
Love your grey version and the pink version. You have sold this pattern to me. I would probably lengthen it for me. I have used both zig zag and stretch stitch on jersey and a straight normal stitch on ponte di Roma. Thank you. Ruth
I love them! So warm and well made. I love that you also used thrifted fabric like I do. I do wish I could need items like that...... Being hot all the time can get tiring.
Lifting Pins and Needles thank you!! I must admit, although I don’t love winter, I do love having four seasons. Autumn has always been my favourite. :)
Sandra Navarro Thanks so much, Sandra!! I will definitely do the fabric haul video- I keep checking the tracking number to see when it’s going to get here. ;)
Well I enjoyed that Lisa. I love all the sweaters I sway towards the pink one. I love that raised neckline. Yes please to a fabric haul. I've heard so much about Blackbird fabrics it will be nice to see what you have been buying. ;-)
Hello from Australia! Love your videos. Just discovered your videos today and I have watched them all and subscribed. Looking forward to seeing more :)
Such lovely sweaters 😃 Great job! I would love to see your new fabrics and would definitely watch a sew-a-long for the toaster sweater. Probably prefer version 1 because I prefer raglan sleeves. PS. I use my overlocker for the seams and I think I would have placed the seams of the waist and neckband so that they match up with the side seams on the main body of the sweater if that makes sense. I know this because I just sewed the neckband on back to front like you did 😄
Sollenbum S That’s a smart idea! You know, I did check the instructions, and I don’t believe it told you where to put the seams- although maybe I just didn’t look close enough! Lol. I just posted a fabric haul video, so I hope you’ll have a look!
agirlsewgeeky Thanks so much! I’ve never seen scuba with jersey on both sides before, so I scooped it up- it’s definitely a more structured sweatshirt that usual, but still soft and comfy!
Your Toasters are beautiful! I never would have thought of doing it in a ponte but your pink one is just gorgeous. I think I'm going to have to do View A too :) I had to do an FBA on View B to get a good fit. I have narrow shoulders but a large bust so I couldn't get away with just grading down. :) I'd love a sew-a-long with the Toaster!
Love your toasters, almost finished version 2, my daughter has requested one as well. Like the look of version 1 as well. I think the instructions and construction is really good. Always love a sewalong😊
Yes! Haha that was for both of your queries...I would love the sew along for the sweater with waist band and cuffs version. That very same thing happened to me with the in the folds jersey dress (free download) I mixed up the back and front as well. Like the idea of the sticky note. Thanks Victoria
vicksonrnful Done! I was thinking that one was better for the Sew-along, too. More steps! I’ll have to check out that dress pattern- I always been free patterns for days when I’m feeling thrifty. ;)
Love the pink one of this. I sew with a small zigzag and serge my edges. I have a stretch stitch but I find the zigzag works well. I also use my walking foot, in fact it usually only comes of for my zipper foot. I sew cottons as well with it. I haven't yet brought this pattern ( one of the few I haven't !!) I have so many sweatshirt tee patterns but I do love the folded neck.
+Quiltygal The folded neck is very cool- it just makes the construction so easy with no facings or neckband. I hate to be an enabler- but you should get it. ;)
Hi lisa, I just found you in the comments on Karinas video, Lifting Pins and Needles and so glad that I did😁. I have just sent off for that very same pattern and can't wait to sew up this great looking sweater. Your version's are great and look lovely on you. I am looking forward to seeing more of your video's. All the best from Sally in Cornwall, England 😘🌹
Have you thought about investing on a serger, the stitches are perfect and you get a more professional finish to your clothing. Sergers handle knits very well. The sweater looks fantastic!!! I love it. Yes do a follow along.
Faodail Creation Hee hee! I’m tempted, for sure! My next door neighbour is a seamstress, so maybe I’ll see if she’ll let me borrow hers for the weekend and see if I like it!
And Sew On also see if your sewing machine has a overcasting stitch. It kind of mocks a serger. Some sewing machines can also come with a foot that cuts the fabric.
Check your manual, I have a 520 that comes with a small selection of overcasting stitches It's setting 8, 11, 12 on mine. They are used for different purposes. :)
Great tops. I just ordered the pattern so looking forward to making both versions. Nice makes and a sew along would be awesome, either version. Thanks for sharing
Hi from Ottawa! We had great October weather for sure. Good info about that thread. I've seen it at Fabricland too...will give it a go. Love the pink! Yes do fabric hauls!! And sew-alongs are the BEST :) Subscribing! Merry Christmas 🎄
I'm wearing one of my Toasters oddly enough! The scuba looks so cozy, and the grey is really pretty. The pink is a gorgeous color for you. I use my serger for most knit construction and my coverstitch for hems. If I need to use my sewing machine, I use a very narrow zigzag (.5 width, 2.5-3.0 length).
Elizabeth Made This Hilarious! It’s such a great pattern. I am toying with buying a server- but now that I’m getting the hang of using my sewing machine for knits, it seems like just another thing to take up space. I know it’s fast and makes for a professional looking garment, though!
Like Elizabeth, my first choice is the serger and my second is a narrow zig zag. I really like the structure of the grey toaster. I don't have the toaster pattern but found an uncut 80s sweatshirt pattern with an oversized turtlleneck at a thrift store, that i have made twice and really like. I have been thinking about hacking it into a toaster. I have hacked it into the Seamworks Astoria and Moneta bodice.
Hi Lisa ! I just love your vidéos and your cousettes ( it's French ) i subscribe right now ! By the way, I understand easely your english. Amitiés from France !
Has anyone tried sewing with a twin needle on scuba fabric? I'm making a Toaster out of scuba/faux suède (totally inspired by this video!). I only get one line of stitching with the stretch twin needle! (It works fine on cotton fabric). Anyone any tips?

Love all of the sweaters! So creative of you to use the thrifted sweat shirt for your toile!
+M Biggart Thanks! It’s nice to use something for a toile that you might actually wear, isn’t it?
These tops turned out fantastic! They both look sharp!
Thank you!!

love the second version best! it looks soooo comfy. Fabric haul - yes please!
Dallas James It really is! The scuba has such an interesting texture. One problem- it’s not cold enough to wear it yet! I’m wearing the pink today.
Great job! Version 1 has my vote for the sew-along.
sewgatormomm Thanks!:)
Love your grey version and the pink version. You have sold this pattern to me. I would probably lengthen it for me. I have used both zig zag and stretch stitch on jersey and a straight normal stitch on ponte di Roma. Thank you. Ruth
+Ruth Lanwarne I’m glad, Ruth! It is a great pattern- and you get a lot of value with the two distinct styles. Enjoy!
Thank you for this video! I was hesitant about this pattern but that last one in the pink ponte looks gorgeous and I'm going to go for it!
+Sarah Larsen Thanks, Sarah! Definitely go for it- it’s a great pattern! I made one in a stretch faux suede that I put in my October Makes video, too
Hey Lisa, I love your toasters. They are beautiful, your fabric choice is on point😉
RunningNStyle Thanks, Renata! So kind of you to say!
put a tailor tack on the front of my project. I always have at least one hand needle threaded. this has helped me on numerous projects.
Lovely tops, all of them. Sew-a-longs are fun, as well as help a lot of sewers, hope you do one.
LOVE your idea to use thrifted finds to try out the pattern first! I am so stealing that :)
+Karlen Marshall Thanks! I’m going to grab another one soon to try out another pattern. ;)
Yesssssss! I would love a Blackbird fabric haul. Loving your channel. You're great! Glad to see another Canadian vlogger! Hi from Winnipeg. X
Sandra Navarro Thanks so much, Sandra!! I will definitely do the fabric haul video- I keep checking the tracking number to see when it’s going to get here. ;)

I just LOVE the pink Toaster sweater. Another addition to my mile long sewing list...also loved the Video, great job😙😚😗
Hattie sews Thank you! It a fantastic pattern, and so quick to sew- even without a serger. ;)
Hello from Australia! Love your videos. Just discovered your videos today and I have watched them all and subscribed. Looking forward to seeing more :)
+Kacy Mateljan Thanks so much! I’m having a blast, and have some great stuff planned!;)
Version two please for sewalong. Love your blogs so natural
+Lesley Jones Will do!
I love toasters. I'm on number 5! I make mine on my overlocker from start to finish.

Love the sweaters! Fabric is great, I didn't realise you could make the sweater from a scuba type material, love it!
agirlsewgeeky Thanks so much! I’ve never seen scuba with jersey on both sides before, so I scooped it up- it’s definitely a more structured sweatshirt that usual, but still soft and comfy!
Hello from Ottawa! So glad to have find your channel! You are very natural and interresting. I would like the sew along with no.2 toaster pattern.
+Chantal Lariviere Thanks, Chantal! I will definitely do a Toaster 2 sew a long!
Kathleen Meadows I’m definitely going to do a sew along! I just finished a other View B today in the faux stretch suede, and it’s sooooo cozy!
Love your toasters, almost finished version 2, my daughter has requested one as well. Like the look of version 1 as well. I think the instructions and construction is really good. Always love a sewalong😊

Wow that Scuba looks nice and toasty! I used for the first time this month the ballpoint/jersey needle and stretch stitch, it worked out really nice.
+NaturalDane I love the scuba! I have to search out some more up here. I think the double jersey lined is unique
Cute, the pink is 👍🏻👍🏻
Stitches & Seams Thank you! It’s so funny, I have very little pink in my wardrobe, but it’s a flattering tone, I think!
Love the sweaters so much I can't wait to make mine now :) and yes please to a fabric haul :)
Kittenish Behaviour Thanks so much! Can’t wait to see yours!
Great tops. I just ordered the pattern so looking forward to making both versions. Nice makes and a sew along would be awesome, either version. Thanks for sharing
It’s a great pattern. I’m sure I’ll do a sew along in the new year!
Lovely! I'll have to try that eloflex thread, also saw it at fabricland the other day!
Judith Dee I was pleasantly surprised! I’m going to go back for more colours. I couldn’t make it pop no matter how hard I pulled.
These tips turned out fantastic!
Yes a sew along of #2...please...
llozano1018 Alrighty! ;)
Hi from Ottawa! We had great October weather for sure.
Good info about that thread. I've seen it at Fabricland too...will give it a go.

+Tania Cern I haven’t tried Seamwork patterns yet. Do you recommend them?
