@@tysontyson1244 Subaru's biggest mistake was removing the 5 or 6 Speed manual transmission from some of it's popular models Outback, Forester, Legacy and most recently the Crosstrek. They were fun, and not only solid as a tank but also the most reliable cars money could buy, by a country mile. I am still driving my 2010 5 speed manual in town and on long journeys, never ever had a major or minor issues other than the regular expected maintenance. The CVT transmission took much of the shine off Subaru's reliability. My manual transmission Forester and Legacy remain my favorites.
I live in southern Ontario and I bought a used forester, I will own until there’s nothing but a frame, engine and I will use a piece of clear plastic as a windshield and a lawn chair as a seat. I love Subaru. I have loved them since 1993. Subaru is the brand to own. I have hot wheels cars of Subaru. You can never go wrong with a Subaru purchase.
I made a Subaru purchase, and it went wrong. Actually, my girlfriend and I both have had Subarus cost us thousands and thousands in repairs. The problem is their engines and oil consumption, which is in their own words, "satisfactory". I will never buy another Subaru.
Bring back a standard 5 or 6 speed transmission. The stick is where its at, plus you have a much less chance of someone stealing your car. Wink. My Crosstrek has 204k miles and has never failed me. People cannot believe I got into some of the areas in my Subie as they were quite remote. Regardless, many miles ahead , and many adventures to be experienced. Stick Shifter.
I agree. Stick shift all the way ! People have gotten too lazy to use a stick ! Give me a wilderness Crosstrek will no frills and a stick shift and I'd buy it today !
I have a 2014 manual with 33k miles and also wants to reach at least 200k miles, what are the major repairs you’ve done so far? How did you deal with burning oil?
They really should add a turbocharged or supercharged engines as options to the Forester, and Crosstrek CUVs. A smaller forced induction engine that brings on the torque at low rpm would not only improve performance, but also overall fuel economy. Or introduce hybrid models that have electric motors to improve low end torque on both the Forester, and Crosstrek. Low end torque is something that is needed on off-road vehicles.
Yeah, I think the "shocking" part is that Subaru is still rolling with the wheezy 2.5L engine as the cars get heavier. That engine was available in 2013 when I bought my 2014 Forester XT. I could go for a hybrid if it gave the 2.5 a bit more punch in a useful range of driving. I'm also curious as to what markets this video is talking about. Are the Baja and Brat coming to the US market? And when? The dude lost me when he talked about 0-60 in 8 seconds as "fast". DId I just get teleported to 1990?
I would throw my money at them if they offered a turbo 6 speed crossTrek. I already have a '22 WRX. Just put that engine in a CrossTrek and I'll tell Subaru to "Shutup and take my money!!"
Subaru will never go back to a geared transmission except for a possible new WRX sports car. They are making too much profit on "one size fits all" concept. A Subaru truck will not be anymore capable than a Wilderness Outback. When they adapt Toyota's proven hybrid system(2025), it will price them out of their normal market. Toyota never sold that many Hybrid Rav4 because they were too expensive. Except, even with a CVT, a new Brat will still put everything in its class to shame.
As a styling standpoint, I can’t help but wanting to build a proper STI version of one 😅i think a lowered one set up as a street take to track on weekends Brat styled like an STI minus the giant wing would look fun and be different to see 😂
Our 2011 Outback, bought new, 160,000 miles and still my favorite vehicle ever owned. I’ll be 64 in July, love our Subaru all wheel drive and quality. We never had a breakdown until 153,000 and it was a wire on the harness at the plug. We’ll drive it until it won’t move, lol
if they make the brat or baja available with a manual i'd be super interested, with a standard A/T i'd still be interested, but CVT is a deal breaker for me...
Unfortunately, there simply aren’t enough customers interested in a manual transmission. It would cost Subaru, millions to develop and implement a manual transmission for the Baja and the brat, and they likely would not recoup the money they spent on sales. The WRX has already proven that considering they sold more models with the CVT than they did with the manual and the WRX is literally a rally car. It’s sad but I think the market has killed the manual.

....A WRX Brat or a WRX Baja with a turbo boxer engine/6 speed would get me out of the Ridgeline I'm currently driving. As soon as they're released I'm at my local dealer checking them out. If the Brat/Baja are CVT only, it's a big "no way in hell" for me. C'mon Subaru, give us a rally car that can haul my mountain bikes to the mountains...
LMAO any Suburu in the dealership can haul your mountain bikes to the mountains just fine. You must never have owned a Subaru to make that statement lol. My 22 Outback Onyx XT can haul 4 people, thier camping gear AND their 4 bikes up any mountain road a new Brat will. You do know that one doesn't need a rally car to go into the mountains, right?
In fact, my 22 Outback Onyx XT is far, far more capable off road than my 2004 WRX was. My manual WRX had 237hp, standard sedan clearance and a stiff, road-tuned suspension. And ZERO X-Mode. My current 260hp OBOXT with almost 9 inches clearance and softer suspension, would smoke that li'l WRX over ruts and washboard dirt roads. And do it with way, way more comfort and ease. And again, it's hilarious you think you need a rally car w/stick to get into the moutains with your bikes 🤣.

Cannot agree more with you and the other comments here the CVT is the weakest part of the Subaru drive train and has been for years. It's shameful they don't let their engineers work on a better transmission. I also did not agree on getting rid of the 3.6 engine. If they would have put a turbo on that it would have been so much better than the lame and tame 4 cylinder motors they have now (non WRX). I for one will never own a non turbo Subaru as they are so under powered. Please Subaru keep the 6 speed manual and start working on a double clutch or 8 gear auto and dump the old tech CVT.
What's really shocking is that ALL these new Subarus (and some recent ones) *monitor you 24/7.* They record video of you, and your family. They record audio of you, and your family. They use GPS mapping to see where you go, and how long you're in various places. They monitor and log how you drive, so be on your best behavior constantly. The new Subarus even 24/7-monitor areas *around* your car, wherever you're parked, picking up people's conversations, logging wifi info, cellular info, taking people's pictures without permission. And you can't delete any of this information. Subaru might provide you with some thin notice of this in the manual, but it should be written in big letters on a sign before you buy the car. "WARNING: This Big Brother car monitors you and your life, and the lives of all those around you. If Subaru records anything, it is instantly the property of Subaru, and Subaru refuses to delete the info." I just want a reliable CAR, not a constant invasion of my privacy. I used to really like Subarus. Sadly, many new cars also have this "feature." Big Brother govt. and corporations are one thing, but what happens when hackers steal this info and use it... for whatever it is they use it for? What happens when someone discovers that your 14YO daughter is cute, and they know everything about her patterns and your patterns? They can take anyone they want, whenever they want. Is this the kind of world you want? If so, then SHOP SUBARU.
Great call on the door situation by Subaru: making the heavier-duty proper truck more useful than the common "4-door SUV with a miniature bed" configuration that's all you can get with some "trucks."
I’m on my second Subaru. My entire family owns Subaru’s. My parents currently are on their 4th Subaru and my sister her first one. I love ❤️ Subaru’s. I am waiting for them to make a Forester with the “new” projected Apple Car Play that will take over cars in the near future. The Apple Car Play is supposed to take over the entire dash with full customization and front window projection. When that comes out, I will be buying me a new Subaru.
They were not selling enough Impreza sedans so they discontinued them. But if you want AWD, 36 mpg highway, at a reasonable price, there was no other place to turn. Maybe they could bring that back with the non turbo engine and a standard automatic with a larger top gear.
They need to offer the WRX/STI in the hatchback. Fun AND practical. I for one will never again own a car with a trunk, no matter how roomy. Big space with a letter box opening that you can't put in anything substantially sized.
I don't know why people always say this. Subaru gave you a hatch and it didn't sell. Look at the va generation it was the best selling. People want a good looking sedan not a hatch sorry.
A Baja with the 400 hp sti engine and 6 speeds manual transmission; that’s going to be a Subaru grand slam, no matter if it’s a $45,000 little truck (lo escribí bien?)
Subaru sales in the UK have fallen a very long way from their hay day because they simply stopped selling what we wanted. I would like to see them come back but not holding my breath.
Sadly that is awful fuel economy. Ive had the Legacy, Outback and Impreza, all terrible on fuel. Mid 20s MPG round town is not acceptable. Superb cars but running costs are high. There is nothing in the range (in the UK) that is tempting me back now. I might see snow once a year and purchase prices are very high here for what you get. Theres nothing else like a Subaru but hard to justify one as a daily driver, although it would be a cash purchase if I did get another. People who pay ££££ monthly and keep trading in need their head testing.
7:20 all Subaru models, except maybe the WRX have a CVT now. Stop going on about this.. nothing anyone can do about it. you want a regular geared auto transmission, buy a truck. Stick shifts are mostly gone. And the CVT that Subaru uses will last, as long as you ignore Subaru America’s advice and change the fluid every 60k miles, or 30k if you tow a lot.
Since the Maverick really can’t be had for less than $30k, the Brat may actually be able to start at the low $20k if it keeps the cab short. Then, a truck for $30k+ could be really nice with a wilderness trim in the low $40k
I love my Legacy, but it does have a CVT, which is fine, for the most part, except for the fact that it tries to emulate a regular automatic. I typically bypass that by engaging the cruise control at 20 mph and continuing to accelerate to the desired speed. I've never understood why they'd go with a CVT and then try to emulate a regular automatic.
The Baja with the WRX engine and 6 speed trans will be a great option. We might wait to see what the reviews are like instead of just buying the current WRX.
I was happy with my wrx hatch and dissatisfied with the 24 wrx… but I guess it’s time to start saving just in case!!! Subi don’t let me down this year 😢
I bought a Forester Touring about a year ago. I hate that the low oil pressure light keeps flickering. I hate that my dashboard lights keep burning out. I hate that the Eyesight is failing and I especially HATE that with only 14K miles the transmission needs to be replaced. This is my First and Last Subaru Ever ! As far as I’m concerned, Subaru can go 🖕🏽themselves !!!
Subaru, please bring back the hi/lo range gearbox. I learned to drive in a Subaru1980 GL. Great car. Have had 4 other Subaru cars. Still have a 2007 forester. All were great.
What I want to know is the CVT able to be serviced. Is there a filter can you drain it or do you have to have it sucked out and refilled. There’s no such thing as a lifetime oil.
I have a 2018 Legacy with a CVT and I had the fluid changed at 40,000 miles. It wasn't something that was in the service schedule, but I had it done at the local Subaru dealership. I've watched videos where the mechanic took a giant syringe looking thing and sucked out the old fluid, then replaced the exact same amount with fresh fluid. Not something I felt like dealing with.
Subaru Knows people want a standard transmission option. They refuse. they can but they just don't. CVT only by choice. Subaru is not my choice because I will not own a car with a CVT except a Hybrid. The new Wilderness without a Standard tranny option is a Joke for sure.
Part of the reason Subaru has managed to keep their prices low for so long is by reducing the number of variations in their available drivetrains. Unfortunately because they committed to CVTs in a few models a while back they are now incentivized to use CVTs in most models to save on manufacturing costs. Especially considering that Subaru sales have only grown since implementing CVTs, they have no real market research that can prove going back to conventional transmissions will in anyway boost sales. And the development and implementation of new conventional transmissions will likely cost the company millions, even if they borrow ideas from their Toyota partnership as they have in past. The brat and the Baja might have something new, but I doubt it considering Subaru’s most recent generation of CVT has proven significantly more reliable than past CVTs. They are probably satisfied with its performance.
Only boomers and trashy people want manual. Sorry people. My generation are so poor paying your healthcare bills we need fuel efficiency over performance.
Hi folks. My humble 07 Forester 2.5ltr fuel injected (no turbo). A 5-speed dual manual ’10 forward gears and two reverse and LSD on the rear axel’ I love it, it did 160k before first break pads. (My trusted mechanic said green brake pads they look like the originals, hum Yes!) I know how to click all the high/low cogs on approaching any challenging situation. ‘That’s including speed humps and roundabouts” I don’t feel that SUBARU has improved it’s ground clearance or on the dual speed '10speed' gear box. I also recall in the 80’s the Leone rally version had adjustable height. So the 'dark horse' would be more impressive with some good features from the past!!!
Brat or Baja will replace my GMC Z71. Outback touring great vehicle wife loves the ride. But I want a 6 speed manual truck ... Subaru and give us a six foot bed single cab with tow packages.
I want either two or four battery packs in the Crosstrek. I thought about the 400hp car but with my Hyundai Hybrid(which wifey will get when I buy a white-or red-Crosstrek Hybrid)running so good, I'll be set for my foreseeable future
Can’t understand them with the cvt. Imagine painting an awesome portrait, beautiful, then you splash your coffee on the top for that “ used stressed look” 🥱🥱 or buying a Bentley then painting a pink stripe down the side it just does not correlate.
They need to bring back the turbo charged version of the forester touring model. I know 5 people that own them and they won't buy a new Subaru because they don't have anything new that even compares to the old 2014 turbo charged Foresters.
Yeah maybe in the Forester lineup... but no stock 2014 Forester XT is going to pull away from a stock 22 Outback Onyx XT in any situation. And a recent year OBOXT will do it all with more refinement and grace. Don't get me wrong, those Forester XTs were awesome for what they were, but to say that NONE of today's Subaru models can compare to them is simply fanboy chatter.
We did own a Baja for quite a few years and then we traded it in for a Forester. Big mistake. We now have an Outback and a Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz does not come close to the quality and handling of the Outback. I would definitely trade in the SC for a new Baja.
I've got an Outback with the rare, and getting more rare every day, 3.6, flat six, normally aspirated engine. The geniuses have decided the six is out--on other brands too, and turbos are in. Maybe they are right, after all if you deisgn in enough strength to take the turbo power, maybe those engines will last, I just know I like my six and get up to and over 30mpg's on the highway. And it is more than enough power for a non racer like me.
Sticking to my guns - absolutely luv my 23 Outback Onyx Xt - Subie how bout a 25 Sti version of that car - promise I’ll trade mine in and pay the difference
All somebody has to do is make a Cherokee trailhawk replacement and that will be my next car but nobody has done it yet. Low range Rear locker 4 wheel independent suspension Thats all I want. Nobody built it... Land Rover defender. That's it!
That's a very, very purpose built and focused vehicle. Not a good city car, not a good highway touring car. But a fantastic off-roading car. Most people don't need such intense off-road capability, so you're not going to have a lot of options in that narrowly focused a category.
I've been looking at Subaru for a while, and now that I am ready I learned they got rid of the most important thing for me. The manual trans! Dumb move. I prefer the Crosstrek in the manual. But that is gone. The WRX might be ok. Worried about the reliability of that model though.
That's great, but what is Subaru doing to correct the issue with Parasitic Drain on 2015-2020 Subaru Outback 2015-2020 Subaru Forester 2015-2020 Subaru Legacy 2015-2020 Subaru WRX 2019-2020 Subaru Ascent. Sure, you have a work around by removing the breaker for the DCM trying to connect to 3G towers. This disconnects calling features that Subaru drivers utilized like hands free driving. The fix is $800 and there's no guarantee it fixes the issue, and is paid for out of pocket by those customers even though it's a manufacturers flaw. What is Subaru going to do to bring those customers back? I've met many Subaru owners that have been left high and dry in the wilderness because of this drain, myself and my wife being one of several.
Is this real? Subaru Australia has seriously dropped the ball... We don't even have the 1st Wilderness editions and there's already a 2nd edition 😢 PLEASE can we have new management in Australia 🙏
So, I love subarus. They’re awesome cars. Very useful for a variety of environments. But as someone who often takes their Subaru off road, into the mountains, and through rough conditions. Subaru needs to abandon the 2.5L engine and the CVT. Those are great for fuel efficient city driving but not the best for other things people often do with a Subaru
Hey subaru. Hear our desperate cry. Forget cvt and all engines nowadays have to be turbo engines. Replace cvt's to 8-speed Aisin torque converter automatic with VTD awd system. It wouldn't be so difficult. You would thus have all the keys to success!

The Apple Car Play is supposed to take over the entire dash with full customization and front window projection. When that comes out, I will be buying me a new Subaru.
I really hope this video is true and not clickbait. Very hard to tell
And we can tell you it is true!
They were not selling enough Impreza sedans so they discontinued them. But if you want AWD, 36 mpg highway, at a reasonable price, there was no other place to turn. Maybe they could bring that back with the non turbo engine and a standard automatic with a larger top gear.
2023 Prius goes 0-60mph in 7 seconds, has AWD, and gets 50mpg.
Do you have an official source? These all look like concepts and I don't see any Subaru announcements.
I luv the Brat and the Baja
😎👍🆒! If they put a manual gearbox in the SUV I will buy one yesterday.
A Baja with the 400 hp sti engine and 6 speeds manual transmission; that’s going to be a Subaru grand slam, no matter if it’s a $45,000 little truck (lo escribí bien?)
I absolutely agree
Subaru sales in the UK have fallen a very long way from their hay day because they simply stopped selling what we wanted.
I would like to see them come back but not holding my breath.
WRX STI hatchback. Bring it back and take our money. If not, its the VW R type for me.
400hp STI will be a game changer and the best decision Subaru ever made. I’ll buy one immediately.
I’ve got a 2021 Crosstrek which gives me 30+ mpg on a daily basis. It also has 8.87 inches of ground clearance.
Subaru can improve if models come without the wimpy CVT automatic transmission.
Lost me at 2.5L and CVT
Bingo.
Yk I grew up around Subarus, and for my first car I bought an 05 forester. Gotta say I don’t see myself buying any other brand, love my subie
The brat 😮 I don't like 4 doors I like more bed room 😮 I would definitely be interested in the brat.
If lifetime is 50k to 80k it is
Subaru Knows people want a standard transmission option. They refuse. they can but they just don't. CVT only by choice. Subaru is not my choice because I will not own a car with a CVT except a Hybrid. The new Wilderness without a Standard tranny option is a Joke for sure.
CVT is crap. I had one in a Mitsubishi. Kept it 7 whole months.never again.
As a former Subaru owner, have the same issue with their current offerings. Great vehicles, but I refuse to spend my hard-earned money on a cvt.
Got a 22 Outback, CVT totally fine, no issues….
Only boomers and trashy people want manual. Sorry people. My generation are so poor paying your healthcare bills we need fuel efficiency over performance.
So will the Brat and Baja be so in the United States ? I certainly hope so !
The Crosstrek Wilderness “lift” vs the Limited is 0.6”, not 6”
The Forest looks good but the front Fog lights need to be circular and larger occupying a more prominent forward position on the front lower bumper.
I'm so excited to see the brat and Baja coming back
I would be seriously interested in the Brat!
When will the brat and Baja be available.
That's awesome! Did they start using gaskets in their cyl8nder heads or are they still using silicone? If it's silicone, I'm still not buying one.
Still no turbo in the Forester ? ? ?
A big swing and miss.
An no plug in hybrids ? ? ?
Another big swing and a miss
Hope they improve paint & metal durability
Was this written by ai? This just doesn’t sound like what a human would say.
Ofcourse not.
Im really looking forward to a new Subaru truck...i love my crosstrek sport and prefer driving it over my 4dr rubicon
Don’t know if it’s a good idea to bring both Brat and Baja, I’m thinking they’ll compete for the same group of customers
Can’t understand them with the cvt. Imagine painting an awesome portrait, beautiful, then you splash your coffee on the top for that “ used stressed look” 🥱🥱 or buying a Bentley then painting a pink stripe down the side it just does not correlate.
Man I miss driving Subarus
I suggest the truck. That way you can carry enough engine oil to get around town.
I have a 2020 Forester, which is great, but the new Baja P/U looks very interesting,
Cvt = dealbreaker
Just wish Subaru would sell the trucks in the UK, we miss out!
Will the Wrx Sti come out in the uk? Right hand drive?
So what transmission will the sti have?
What’s the official source for the new WRX STi
If they put the 3.6 and a manual transmission in the baja, i may have to sell a few cars to pick 1 up.
I need Subaru to make the truck in the thumbnail. 😂
Toyota Stout just entered the room.
Sticking to my guns - absolutely luv my 23 Outback Onyx Xt - Subie how bout a 25 Sti version of that car - promise I’ll trade mine in and pay the difference
If most of the models have a CVT, their sales will be flat and it wont matter if its a Brat or not. Subaru needs to listen to its fan base
All somebody has to do is make a Cherokee trailhawk replacement and that will be my next car but nobody has done it yet.
Low range
Rear locker
4 wheel independent suspension
Thats all I want.
Sales for Subaru are at it's lowest since 2015, and the real shocker is that they're just offering us with more of the same.
Ronald Reagan famously had a Subaru brat at his ranch, and he loved it.
I've been looking at Subaru for a while, and now that I am ready I learned they got rid of the most important thing for me. The manual trans! Dumb move. I prefer the Crosstrek in the manual. But that is gone. The WRX might be ok. Worried about the reliability of that model though.
Will these come to the US?
Subaru should have fog lights for the Crosstrek base model, even if it’s included in price.....safety is no.1 with Subaru right?
That's great, but what is Subaru doing to correct the issue with Parasitic Drain on
2015-2020 Subaru Outback
2015-2020 Subaru Forester
2015-2020 Subaru Legacy
2015-2020 Subaru WRX
2019-2020 Subaru Ascent.
2.4L turbo charged engine on Crosstrek please!!!
If I get one, it’s gonna have at least one (removable) jump seat in back! NO Subaru B.R.A.T. would be caught demolished without one! 🤓
I love Subaru but they are decades behind the competitors. These 2 new trucks won’t sell a large volume of units.
New kight weight STI borrowing from 2nd gen buddy styling... give me a clutch and I'm sold
It’s it just me or do the lines of the brat from the headlights back look like a first gen Raptor?
Can't Afford nada😮😮😮😅😅😅😅😢😢😢
Subaru needs to put the boxer 6 cylinder in the Brat
Is this real? Subaru Australia has seriously dropped the ball... We don't even have the 1st Wilderness editions and there's already a 2nd edition 😢
PLEASE can we have new management in Australia 🙏
I'd buy a Brat or Baja if it's a manual transmission and naturally aspirated. No turbos, no cvt, no hybrid.
The Brat looks very interesting.
But please not with the CVT.
"Trusty" Boxer 4 Engine only trusty until head gasket boom boom
As long as theres no CVT and its a manual V6, I'm happy :)
Then don't hold your breath, because they're all-in on CVTs and aren't at all interested in producing a 6 cylinder.
Sad really, I am not touching a new Subaru due to these two requirements.@@SM-McKraken
Subaru needs to focus on the reliability of their engines over anything else…
Hey subaru.
Hear our desperate cry. Forget cvt and all engines nowadays have to be turbo engines. Replace cvt's to 8-speed Aisin torque converter automatic with VTD awd system. It wouldn't be so difficult. You would thus have all the keys to success!
Bingo.
Do these things have a full chassis
