The 2025 Honda CR-V E:FCEV (or, more simply, fuel cell CR-V) is one of only three hydrogen-powered electric vehicles available in the United States-and, identical to its competitors, is solely offered in California. Honda just entered the hydrogen fuel cell industry with the Clarity fuel cell.
However, Honda's latest hydrogen effort takes a different approach by using their famous CR-V crossover as the base instead of a sleek, aerodynamics-focused sedan. Fuel cell models show a striking similarity to gas-powered SUVs, with only a few distinctive elements like as a unique front grille and a slightly extended nose to fit the fuel cell. The CR-V fuel cell competes with the Toyota Mirai Crossover and Hyundai Nexo Crossover.
However, what sets the Honda unique is its added 17.7-kWh battery pack. This battery pack may be charged at home and helps expand the overall driving range. The fuel cell CR-V will be sold in limited numbers, with Honda announcing that it will make a modest 300 units annually.
What's new for 2025? The CR-V fuel cell includes a new powertrain built for 2025, including Honda's advanced hydrogen fuel cell system developed in conjunction with General Motors. The fuel cell CR-V's exterior and interior design is likely to be remarkably similar to the existing gas-powered CR-V.
