Hi Tiago - love your "reporting" on the sometimes messy world of Substack/ConvertKit/Ghost - any updates since this came out Dec 7, 2022?

Hi Bob, thanks for your lovely words :)
Yes, there's a bit of an update at least for Substack. They have released an SEO update a few days ago, I still have to investigate it, but I've been busy working on another video in the meantime.
I'll talk about on the newsletter first, which I've seen you are already subscribed :)

Do you think it’s odd or weird to consider building your main website on ghost and also using sub stack as your newsletter pointing people to your main website while updating subject with post from your website or should I just consider focusing on being on ghost?

      Hi :)
Short answer: that's a bad idea. It will be infinitely better to use either Substack or Ghost, not both at the same time.
      Long answer:
I think it's a bad decision to that because it will create a complicated system (to make Ghost and Substack "communicate"), cost more money (by paying for Ghost and potentially paying Substack fees), and most important of all, I think it goes against Substack rules to do that (I've seen people get banned for promoting their other 'websites' on their Substack newsletters).
In your place, I would pick Ghost over Substack if:
1/ I wanted a tool with better SEO
      2/ more customization options
3/ save money because those 10% fees on Substack add up quickly.
And I would pick Substack over Ghost if:
1/ I will not charge memberships (this way, Substack is free forever)
2/ I insisted on publishing different types of content in the same place (ie, podcast + newsletter) for simplicity's sake (*note 1)
3/ I already had a strong community that enjoyed using the chat capabilities of Substack (*note 2)
*note 1: I think using Substack for blog+podcast is not the best idea in the world, but it's much easier and cheaper to do it on Substack than on Ghost.
*note 2: Ghost doesn't have chat capabilities, and moving a community from one tool to another is tricky, and for that reason sticking on Substack could be a better idea.
Let me know if this helps :)

Hi and thanks. I am new to all this but I need to help my boss move 200 of his email-blogs (literally just emails) to Substack. But Substack only accepts migration from a URL. What would you do if it were you? Should I move everything to a place like Tumblr or WordPress, then migrate to Substack? I'm sure I'm missing something but not sure what. Or maybe you would recommend a different platform other than Substack? Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Could I use ghost as my main site and beehiiv for the newsletter since its more focussed on that but run the general content and site on ghost? Beehiiv has a subscriber form for it, but their website theming sucks donkey ass. Thanks!

      Hi Deni, yes you can.
This year I started doing something similar as I'm using Ghost for the website and MailerLite for the newsletter.
To sync subscribers you have 2 easy options:
1\ use HTML block to put the beehiiv form on your Ghost site.
2\ use Ghost native subscriber form + Zapier/Make to sync subscricers between Ghost and beehiiv.

@@thestackjunction perfect thank you I think I’ll go with the code snippet for the subscriber form on my ghost site and the newsletter section of the site, so I don’t pay members fee as the newsletter scales (right now I’m only paying 11$), and use beehiiv for the newsletter.
Just wondering now how I can display latest newsletter issues on the ghost site but I figured an rss feed or just posting them manually would work!
Thank you for the swift response, I love your channel.

Wise decision to avoid the double cost of subscribers :D as I'm on the lower levels of subscribers I didn't consider the potential cost in my previous answer.
Thanks a lot for the kind words :)
