One of my favourite games this year!
Cool. I may get it for my gf. She’s nervous about “losing” or “making mistakes”, even though she’s awesome and I always try to reassure her that that’s why save points exist and that I mess up too 😅
@@Bored_Barbarian Yep, we all do on occasion! The best part is if we make a mistake and we realize it, then we can stop ourselves from doing the same thing a second time! Or at least do better at it!
Oh man, I make mistakes ALL THE TIME -- I make videos about RPGs because I love the way they make me feel, not because I'm actually any good at them! 😂
I will start this next. I’m so happy that it will not take forever to complete.
"What's in the BOX?!"
I never had a GameCube so I missed out on this one. Will pick it up. Especially if it's just as good as Super Mario RPG
@@Eagleknight815 It is good and different! I personally prefer Thousand Year Door, but you can't go wrong with either!
Paper Mario TTYD is utterly amazing, honestly one of my favourite games of all time, and an absolute fantastic entry game into JRPGs.
This makes me hyped to play this game. The original Paper Mario was so awesome! I should probably play this game soon.
You should! It's one heck of a game!
@@1DangerMouse1 I recommend it too!
Nice video Derek! I really like this game 😍
A really underrated thing, to me, about TTYD and Paper Mario 64, is that the combat keeps the numbers and calculations so approachable.
It's rare even near the end of the game to see anything doing more than two digits, and the attack and defense calculations are so transparent (like, if Mario's attack power is three and the enemy has a defense of two, you do one damage) and I think that's another smart piece of what makes the design so approachable
@@HybridAngelZero I agree! The Tattles from Goombario and Good!bella also help with this.
Ty dude. Great review!
I'm getting this game soon for my birthday and I am so happy! I have loved this game since the GameCube days so I have no trouble watching people play. There's just so many little added details.
My favorite addition though? The added music in the remixed tracks! All of the partners have their own theme (been listening to Goombella, Flurrie and the Yoshi) plus the fact each chapter has a varient on the battle theme? Like I can just feel the love and care poured into this game and I couldn't be happier! Will start my playthrough either today or tomorrow!
Speaking of Yoshi, I am hoping for either the pink, white or black Yoshi! That's another neat detail too! Whatever color Yoshi you get appears on the title screen! I mean just how awesome is that? That's lovely attention to detail there!
Hehe, sorry I don't mean to ramble, I'm just excited and my brain won't shut up!
I love it! Being excited is nothing to be sorry about, and the game lives up! :D
@@SuperDerek Hehe, thank you! This is going to be fun!
something i really appreciate about this remake is the optional challenges you can give yourself. Not only can you now opt to triple the damage you take instead of just doubling it, but you can fight a slew of extra encounters if you so choose (both new and old). What's nice is these are totally up to you to do, and can be a real challenge even to veteran players. The ability to choose your difficulty like this is really cool, and allows you to have a game be both accessible and willing to challenge you if you are up to it.
Hey Super Derek!!! I have a question that I wanted to ask. I am really new to JRPGs. I am currently playing through my first JRPG which is dragon quest 11 s for the switch and I really want to know what other JRPGs are great for beginners who have never touched the series. Is dragon quest 3 remake and the games in the Ys series like Ys oath of felghona and nordics great games for a beginner level jrpg player like me? The help for this question would be greatly appreciated.
Hey there! DQ11S is a LOT of fun! I hope you're enjoying it! I have a video of recommendations for turn-based RPGs you might want to check out, which you can find here: ruclips.net/video/V0PPNzDhqUY/видео.html
But to answer your questions more directly, I'm not certain about the upcoming remake yet. I enjoyed the original game quite a bit, but it is retro (NES era.) If you're into retro games, it might be worth checking out, as long as you keep your expectations in check -- it's also a much shorter game than DQ11.
The Ys games are also a lot of fun from what I've played, they are action RPGs though, so if you're good with fast-paced action (almost like Zelda,) I could definitely recommend Ys VIII. I'm not sure about Nordics yet though. :)
