I fished Upper Twin and Robinson Creek May 30- June 3. It was awesome, Power bait and mouse tails were my go to. Had a great time, stayed in Bridgeport at the Redwood Inn Motel. Very rustic, however, great ice machine for your cooler and a freezer to store your fish. I'll be back. Reasonable stay, was up from San Diego.

That's my favorite place in the world. I've been going up there since I was two. I've caught a ton of fish outta those lakes and Robinson Creek and from my experience, they've all been stockers. They supposedly do stock Alper's trout in those lakes, so there are some monsters, but for the most part, you're gonna get pan fryers. You are correct, though. It is absolutely gorgeous up there and that's the reason I take my wife and kids up.

The fish I was getting under the whitewater coming out of the dam the day before definitely did not come out of a hatchery truck. They had full sets of perfect fins and wild markings. I think they were spawning and that's why they were there in concentration. I wouldn't have even known they were there if I didn't see a few fly through the air as they were trying to leap up above the blasting white water. Those fish will probably disperse soon and once they do they will be hard to catch. Heck, they were really hard to catch on my flyrod where they were! I'll put one on my next highlight clip so everyone who is not subscribed to my Patreon can see what they look like.

@@CaptainCompassion1 Yeah, you have me running down a rabbit hole of WTF right now. So, if Alpers sold their property and Arcularius is closed, it looks like the same guy bought them both. Is he doing anything with those properties, or just saying nobody can fish this pristine part of the Owens River? I have been by the property a few times and there are signs posted all over saying get outta here!. Just curious because my findings are a bit scarce on the subject. Thanks for letting me know.

@@7Wolf2k Alpers had moved his operation from the Owens to below Conway Summit. He got in a dispute with DWP who owned the water rights and had to shut down. The Upper Owens has been private property for many years. Back in the day there was the Owens River Ranch and Articularious (sp) Ranch. Don't know who owns them now.

My wife and myself went to Twin Lakes on the 18th, fished the upper lake and didn't even get a bite. We used power bait and mini night crawlers. Talked to another guy and he said last year he had his limit in no time, but he didn't get any bites too. Was going to try Virgina Lakes, but the road was closed. Went on the June Lake loop and saw that no one had any fish at Grant Lake and the water was still low, next at Silver Lake, they were dumping fish into the lake, one lady said it was slow, but she caught a 4 pounder the day before, we didn't even see Gull Lake, but there was a lot of people coming out of June Lake without fish. Next stop was Convict Lake, there was a truck load of guys that said they caught nothing. Thanks for the tip on the worms.

It looked like the fish I was getting in the creek below the dam were spawning but I could be wrong. I wouldn't have even known they were there if I didn't see a few leap up out of the whitewater trying to move upstream. There was no upstream though, just the lake spilling over the dam. Once those fish disperse and the heavy pressure starts as summer comes, I don't think many people will get those fish like I was getting. Bright spawning colors, all of there fins, they were awesome. I'll put one on my next highlight clip. I'm sure some trout swim up the inlet stream to spawn. I wanted to go check it out in the upper lake but snow stopped me on the road I was trying to get there on. I'd never been there so I wasn't going to spend too much time driving around to try to find it.

@@wildernesswithamani1027 A little history. A few years ago the CDFW was sued and the courts forced them to stock only non viable trout if they are not the native trout of the water where they were stocked. Twin Lakes are in the Walker River drainage where Lahontan cutthroat trout are the native species. All non LCT trout from Conway Summit north, stocked by California or a private hatchery, must be Triploid. No viable Rainbows have been stocked in this area for over 10 years. Robinson Creek below Lower Twin is heavily fished so I doubt that any natural fish could survive. South of Conway Summit There have never been any native trout so viable trout of all species may be stocked. You have run into these Oregon trout before. A while ago you caught some nice Rainbows on the East Carson. Those were Oregon Fish.

Wasn't sure if I could drive through so I turned around. I had my boat but I was rowing so I wasn't looking to go that far from where the launch site was at. The wind got bad that day too so I was off the lake in only a few hours.

Non-Stop action is awesome, too bad you could not hook into one of those fat browns, so what is up with those non refrigerated worms, need to check those out. I can't do it. I won't! There were people fishing when I drove by but I didn't even take my rod out of the car. Looking down from the bridge you could see fish lined up in a huge school I'm guessing right where they dumped them in. If you were a kid it would have been fun but that doesn't even slightly interest me. Up stream where the dam was dumping out there were a bunch of colorful wild rainbows congregated under the high flow white water. I got 4 or 5 of them on my flyrod fishing for my Patreon the day before but it was real tough because the fish were only under that white water so getting your nymph to get under there and stay long enough for them to see it was tough duty. I figured it out by going with a short leader and a larger nymph. I wouldn't have even known they were there if I didn't see a few leap through the air as they tried to get above the white water.
