Hi, Would you share how you secure your bike while you're in a resturant or other place of business? Thanks for the trail reviews, I enjoy watching your videos
I'll try to tackle that in an upcoming video. Until then, let me just say that I use a cable with a 4-letter combination lock, where you open it by spelling a word. And even then, I try to position myself where I can keep an eye on it!
Your star rating is about what I’ve read on the reviews. But I think I would enjoy the first part of the trail. Also, your shot of the Great Blue Heron catching the snake was spectacular. Again thanks for sharing the video.
Thank you. I had to be very patient… I stood there for a good while waiting for him to make a move. I thought he was fishing…but he got a snake instead!
Woke University, if I ever see you on the SRT and you drink beer I want to buy you one or more 😉. I was raised in Bristol and live in Seneca SC now. I had been to JC many times back in the 70s and remember when the first big name chain restaurant a Red Lobster came to town and lines two hours long were common 😂. Your cinematic talent and musical selections just get better and better and “responding to comments” is a hit. When we run into other bikers we mention the channel and your sense of humor and how informative the vlogs are.
Cool video. Love the history talk. I loved in Nashville for 35 years and moved to South Florida but plan on moving to East Tennessee in a couple of years love the trip cities area
Another great video! We did the Tweetsie Trail about 4 years ago. We also liked the scenery and the covered bridge was definitely a nice added bonus on the trail. Already looking forward to seeing your next video and next adventure! We love Joyful Trails!
__ Back in the day, Moody Bible Institute had its tough bush-pilot program in Elizabethton. It churned out some of the best pilots in the world, guys who could slip their Cessnas into tiny, tippy strips.
Wow...that's cool to know. There's also a lot of history there surrounding a German rayon plant (?) that still stands today and looks kind of creepy. I started to include that in the script but figured it was too much...
I've driven past the Tweetsie several times and always wanted to ride it, but just never have made the trip up to ride it. Maybe one of these days. It looks like a great trail. Thanks for sharing!
Yeah, it’s great if you’re in the area. I don’t know that I would make a special trip to ride it from far away… But like I say in the video, the first third of the trail is really where the action is, so to speak.
Another great review! Thanks for all the time you spent to create this, incorporating your humorous personality, and the historical information about the areas you visit. I've been thinking of driving up from Knoxville to ride the Tweetsie, and now it's definitely on my list. Loved the comments section also. You rock my friend.
Nice! I like the addition of the comments section. As always, your little barbs cracked me up. Keep up the good work! Now I'm going to go jump on my trike and go for a ride.😊
The ET&WNC railroad (known by locals as the “Eat Taters & Wear No Clothes”) was a BIG deal to the remote communities between its beginning and Boone, NC. Banner Elk badly wanted the line to pass through its town, but the railroad decided against it. The mayor of Banner Elk was invited to the grand celebration in Boone when construction was completed to that city. When asked to step to the podium to give a Speach, the disgruntled mayor said “I remember when the only way to get to Boone was to be born here!”, and he stepped down and left! Great channel you have here! And you kind of remind me of Bobby Duke Arts - another of my favs! Your t-shirt was just great, as Col. 3:23 has been my longtime Bible verse!
Wow.. Everything is Clicking.. just when you think you can’t do any better.. you’re hitting new heights.. Videoing, storytelling, music selection, humor, Sarcasm was always your special talent, Top Notch😁.. I liked the added “Responding to Comments” 👍 Pedal On my Friend 🚴♂️😎
Very enjoyable video as they all are! I was surprised to see myself quoted in your video about half way through. HA! Fun. Did you spend just one day on the trip, minus the drive, but including shooting video? I ask because I'm trying to get a feel for the amount of time I need to allocate to do some of these bike trips. I definitely ride at a leisurely pace but I too do a lot of video shooting with my GoPro. Thanks.
Yes, one day for this one. It was a 2-hr drive from my home. I left at daybreak...rode the trail and shot video...and also shot video of the two towns...squeezed in a lunch...and made it back home about the time it was getting dark outside. So it was a full day...but just one day.
I ride this trail a lot when I want to just turn the pedals. I usually just do the first half from JC to the first stop in Elizabethton. Your video made me think twice about what I’m missing in downtown Etown.
I thought about y'all. But when I shoot one of these videos in one day...it's a FULL day! I barely had time to ride the trail and shoot video of both towns before it was time to head back home. Thanks, though. Hope you guys are doing well.
BAWWHAHAHA - I love it!! Riding around knoxville with an Alabama Hoodie and an open carry law - too funny.....but spot on - Knoxville native here - love your channel - hope to see you on the trail someday!!
I miss him so! I actually got to meet him briefly when he was doing his "Rush to Excellence" tour, back when the national show first started. He was one-of-a-kind!
Great video as always! The star rating might need an update since you can't do 1/2 stars what about going to a 10 star rating, then it gives you more options.
I love your channel. If you ever find yourself up here in Yankeeland, we have a a great trail called the D&R canal trail that spans the middle of the state of NJ
Your style of video creation is outstanding. Cool to learn history around the trail and you presented it all well. It takes lots of work to put this all together. Great work, well done! I need to look up where is this trail exactly would be really cool to ride it myself. I'm always lookout of the trails to ride but I think there're no Amtrak stations nearby and I always combine trails with Amtrak. How long is the whole trail?
Thank you so much, I’m a big fan of your videos as well. Yes, the editing is a lot of work, but I really enjoy that part of it as well. Unfortunately, I don’t think there is an Amtrak station near Johnson City. But the trail is 10 miles long one-way. So, 20 miles out and back.
Hmm I think this trail is cool enough I can add it to the list but definitely no ta priority because of the drive up! Would be cool if they could follow the ROW down to Boone, NC!
__ Speakin of Elizabethton and bush pilots, I guess you're a bush pilot of sorts flying that drone through the woods while balancing on a bike. I'm checkin out temporarily at 8:55 cuz I can't decide if I actually want to see Elizabethton, where some of my friends trained as bush pilots and I almost ended up myself. Going for a bike ride while I think it over. Your music and photography have had a weirdly powerful effect on me. Tennessee's always been JC Central for me, and every few years I dip into it for a few weeks or months and I have an adventure. I almost taught at that school there (the woke one) a few decades back. A lot of almosts for me between JCity and Elizabethton. Okay, I'm off on my bike. Oh, funny thing I just remembered. I'm up here in Niagara Canada but my ancient pedal bike has a Tennessee car license plate.
Cool...go ride that bike! Oh - and I'm actually using a 360 camera that's attached to a 9.5 ft long "selfie stick"...but the stick disappears in editing, causing it to look and act like a drone.
You missed Laural Falls (hampton TN), Ridgewood Bar-b-que (Bluff City) and train ride on some of the old tweetsie railroad. Now a christian summer camp, Hampton, Tn. check them all out on your next trip. On your hike to Laural Falls, see if you can find and hike to "Potato Top"
Wish we could have met up with you! We’re in Kingsport. Learned more than we knew before about JC and Elizabethton from your video. You were a hoot in this one all the way to “end of trail.”
This railroad bed is the same one you road on in roan mountain on old railroad grade Rd. That is the same right of way of the ET&WNC (tweetsie) railroad. Also you missed some of the original railroad bridges. You can still ride or drive across at least one of them on old railroad grade road. They are amazing around 130 year old bridges. Also you got the founding date of Elizabethton wrong. it is 1799 not 1719.
Well… Yes, I’m a human being and I’m alive and in the world and I do have beliefs and political leanings and they do come out a little bit now and then. I think that’s just normal. But usually I’m pretty subtle with it. Personally, I’m somewhere well to the right of Ben Shapiro. If you knew what I really think, you’d be shocked and appalled. 😂

@@joyfultrails that will work as well.

Nice video. Your subtle humor and history lessons make it hard to watch other bike blogs. Keep it up.

When are you gonna come up to ride the Mendota Trail? Kingsport has a 10 mile greenway trail as well.
Thanks for the suggestions...I will have to check those out!
