@jxvwp There was also an episode, where the Danes came to rescue of a British regiment who was trapped in some Aghan village, short on ammo and water and with several wounded soldiers. I bet they were very happy to see their Danish cousins arriving on the scene at the last moment ;-)
@MrTheFrisco No, bec. we don't have a large heavy defence industry but then we build & think up other stuff that you folks can't make. Eg. enzymes that will soon allow huge quantities of ethanol to be made from all sorts of biowaste. 2nd gen. pilot plant is up and running now, when everyone else is stil on 1'st gen. Or a new method that will allow hydrogen to be produced from water in a much cheaper and far more efficient way than prev., so a large portion of surplus wind energy can be stored.
Cant remember the location, but I did hear of the Danish tank crews laying down some really accurate fire on some taliban positions helping out a British unit. Hats off to the Danes.
There are also german Leopards in Kosovo. If you saw the video on youtube of the "Firefight in Prizren" You will see one which get attaced by two serbs with a AK-47
@MrTheFrisco yea we know that, but they are driven by danish troops and thats really the whole point with the video. we also have MAN trucks which are from germany since we don't manufacture our own.
@DanishRecce its like saying to other countrys that use the ak47 there not aloud to use it because its russian made like any miltary stuff they all do 1 thing and that is kill
I read that Danish Leopard 2A5 crews had to teach US Abrams crews how to keep the tanks working in the desert(dust, heat etc.) The M16 introduction didn´t teach them anything?
Lol where do you guys get this Crap !!! we are all Nato Allies stop making Bullshit crap up! We've been fighting in the Desert since 1991 are you that Dumb ! I've had 3 Combat tours [1 Iraq,2 Afghan] and all green troops from other Nations [example- Norway,Poland,Germany,Denmark,Sweden] - etc, go threw a training "get up to speed" period with Experienced Combat troops from the US.Army,USMC or British sometimes French . There eyes & ears are wind open so they don't get KILLED in the 1st Week !!!! They don't tell us anything ! you Ass, there trying to learn how to stay alive and thats Ok they are Green. But they served and were brave and hopefully made it back. Not sitting in there moms basement posting stupid childish crap online with no proof !!! what an Ahole !!! I hope some Danish soldier "Bitch Slaps" you around for your lies ! Now grow up and have some respect for the Men who fought & died there ! USMC 24th MEU/ Semper Fi
Prog X I agree with you 100% and Thank You for your service and commitment to your Country and to Nato. I'll be blunt here, what is a Danish soldier going to tell you Marines and Army Tankers about the Desert ??? like you said the USA has been fighting there for over 20 years ! it's to funny, also in America you train in deserts in California,Arizona,New Mexico and Texas I'm guessing right ? Last I checked there is no desert in Denmark ! To funny- what a tool he was, hey thanks again Marine from the UK god speed.
Some time ago we had a few Danish tank crewmembers in the US, to give them a lecture on how to operate tanks in Afghanistan, as that was a new experience for the US at that time. As far as I know the US did not have tanks in Afghanistan at that time, so they did not know what to expect, if it were any different from Iraq or their own desert etc. The reason it was Denmark was probaly because, only Denmark and Canada had tanks down there at the time, and the difference was that we owned our tanks, while Canada leased theirs from Germany I belive. That happens all over the alliance, sharing the experience and "know how" - The US might have the most powerful military in the world, but they too want it to run effectively, and the best way is to share one anothers experience.
Blackie3391 I agree with Nato members sharing everything, that what we did with all incoming Nations in country. Now again I was there (Twice). The US had Tanks in country after our 1st year! This isn't an Ego thing But with our 20yrs Combat experience in all kinds of Desert warfare and training in places (Iraq,Kuwait,Saudi,Jordan,Israel,UAE,Egypt,Turkey,Afghanistan,Texas,Arizona,California,Nevada) we've had War & Training in EVERY Desert Terrain from thick gravel sand to fine dusty sand to desert tundra ! Why would you think we need help ? Your info is wrong or someone told you wrong or they just feel the need to crap on the USA again !!! We trained for years with Israel,Egypt & Jordan before the 1st Gulf War then in Iraq we made improvements to the air filter systems (I know lots of M1 Tankers !) and no problems. There seems to be this FOOLISH fight so many of you have with Abrams vs Leopards !!?? WE don't,why do you there both great tanks-we use your gun ! The US just happens to have more Combat/Kills because we do most of the fighting this is no slack on Nato. If you want more combat there are many military troop exchange programs- we have Royal Marines & Dutch Marines in the USMC ! And the Army and USAF/Navy has soldiers and pilots from many Nations !!!! So come join the fun and lets CRUSH ISIS !!! So we don't need Desert help. I am a Staff Sergeant SSGT/E-6 (13yrs service/ 3 Combat tours) I'm currently with 3rd Battalion, 6th Marines, 24th MEU on the USS Iwo Jima ARG US 6th Fleet 10 ships/3000+ Marines. we are in the Med the going to the Persian Gulf w/ the US 5th Fleet. so no "basement gameboy" here ! USMC 24th MEU/ Semper Fi
Prog X Obviously you know more, but I only told you what I remember from the article. That article was years ago, but its not only sharing one anothers experience, its also looking at how other nations do things. Remember that those crewmen wasnt there to train the US troops, when I saw the article I said the same as you. But the US military invited the Danes there to share THEIR knowledge, and share how THEY operated THEIR tanks. Im pretty sure the article (or another) said that our two nations operate tanks very differently, thats another reason for those lectures. I dont recall the details, sorry. But as I said you obviously know more about the military as your already a veteran. As far as Im concern I have to wait till my education is finished (one year left) and then Ill probaly sign up for the navy if I can (long long wait time...) but until then, I follow all Danish published military actions very closely. And by the way, Denmark are already having fun bombing the ISIS, we contribute with 7 fighters.
@MRAK47ification No, they were stationed there already, WHEN the war broke out - as part of your empirial forces. Apart from you some of your war ships and supplies, you didn't suddenly send large forces to the far East.
@jxvwp exactly thankyou for proving my point..... countries like Germany and Britian started from nothing we made our country our govermant, our empire we expanded grew.... gained power, respect, fear, world domination..... you speak our launguage because were so powerfull, denamrk failed to do any of this
Excuse me but typically the German, Benelux and Scandinavian armed forces score best at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds when the annual NATO tests are held. Even Latvia and Estonia score better than Great-Britain and the United States on various (mechanized) infantry tests. Those might be small poorly populated countries (excluding Germany), but they usually are better organised, trained and have more efficient budget spending. Obviously they'd lose in an all-out war. But never underestimate them!
Panzerkeiko: Would you post your facts behind your claim of "som solution on the tank make it very good" ? And how would you compare these solutions with latest Merkavas and the Greece Leo 2-variant, witch is the most recent panzer on the Leo-family ?
What good are they, when you can't use them? ;-) A huge vaste of money really - 10-20 would do. Daneland? Doh! - ENGland is even named after a peninsula over here in Denmark / Germany (now) called Angeln, which became the name of the tribe of who used to live there, before they "fled" to Britain.
Don't worry about MRAK47ification - he is just pissed, that we Danes in the viking period screwed his ancestors, so he is now partially Danish blooded :-)
the french tanks ww2 had more armor then the german tanks but they lacked in mobility and firepower.. so armor is not everything. ofc fighting taliban everything bigger then an ak47 is better firepower and more armor can save crewmembers from an rpg attack. the problem is.. there are no swedes in afghanistan!
@jxvwp Plus our naive politicians have been disarmouring throughout the 30's, bec. they hoped that would made Hitler see DK as uninteresting. So we had very limited forces to fight back with. What were they supposed to do? Shoot with slings at tanks and planes? Of course it took some time to get organised with the resistance. Such things do NOT start from day to day, and you need to find reliable and brave people. If "anyone" is a member of the resistance it's far too easy to rip it apart.
Well said Blackie 3391....And ew never know who's a Hjemmeværns Man/ Woman !........cause not all of us is Danish.....MUUU HAHAHA ! Bori cacha a darfod Abdul , Enilla ddymuniadau chan 'r Cymraeg Republican Bragad, Ddyhea buchedda Denmarc a Cymru !
That being said, the British deserve HIGH praise for never giving up and maintaining light in a dark Europe, not compromising. But you should do this thing called reading before spouting, ignorant. 1) UK was beaten as was anyone else until the USSR bled the Germans, you lost 0.94% populace, USSR 14.7%. 2) The Danish surrender was a consequence of a policy that was coordinated with the UK. 3) Check who the highest decorated foreign soldier in UK WWII was, including Gurkhas. Ignorant.
We killled and wounded about 203 Germans before we surrendered, the Germans only killed and wounded 36 Danish troops. Every combat veteran would be ashamed to have people like you in their country.
@MRAK47ification Haha, how ignorant you are ;-) DK is richer pr. capita than the UK and a much happier place. Yeah, we speak E. bec. it's an international language now, and it's very easy for us to learn, since we already know most of the basics from the start. Act. it's you speak part. D. almost every time you open your mouth. You forget that the Anglo-Saxons, Frisians & Jutes also came from these shores before the Vikings and that their languages were still very close - almost like dialects.
ehm nej det har jeg ikke. med hvad fanden skulle det der pis med at mit engelsk er lort til for ? og så vidt jeg ved så hedder det YOUR english sucks ikke you english sucks.
@woody48319 really, the battle of britian in 1940 was probably the most important single battle in britians history, and there was less then 20 american planes and pilots, and over 120 canadian ones, even tho canada was 15x smaller population and had the exact same relationship with britian as america did...
The Danish Leopard platoon was the first in combat
and was asked by the US army, how Tanks worked in combat...
And we did....!!!
Well the highest decorated soldier of the British army ever - and the only member of SAS to be decorated with the Victoria Cross was Danish
Finally real combat testing for the Leopard 2!
I would like to see a Leopard 2 in Iraq.
I LOVE THE LEOPARD! Germans got it weapons right!
@jxvwp

I love tank's so thanks
Cant remember the location, but I did hear of the Danish tank crews laying down some really accurate fire on some taliban positions helping out a British unit. Hats off to the Danes.
thanks I was looking for that video.
On the other hand, the Danish Leopard 2's have all been upgraded to A6 standard compared to the A5 the swedes use
There are also german Leopards in Kosovo. If you saw the video on youtube of the "Firefight in Prizren" You will see one which get attaced by two serbs with a AK-47
of course its yours, and Im glad that it seems that you arre proud of your tank. were too :D
*thumbs up*
@MRAK47ification
The highest decorated foreigner in the British Army in WW2 was Major Anders Lassen, a danish officer in the british SBS
Strv 122 is a wonderful tank, very strong frontal armor.
Strv 122 is the Swedish variant of the Leopard 6 tank. This video shows Danish Leopards. While the difference is small, it is noticeable.

No, they were stationed there already, WHEN the war broke out - as part of your empirial forces.
