You can't go wrong with Rodney Dangerfield, and he carries this movie really well. Another great Rodney movie is Easy Money!!
We are always ordering a Junior Salad with no dressing.
Easy Money with Joe Pesci! Fun
Omg Easy money yes!!!
Easy Money is another Dangerfield classic.... Ladybugs is funny too.v
Did they ever do Caddyshack?
"For Estelle. Thanks so much." This is a dedication to Estelle Endler, Rodney Dangerfield's manager and one of the executive producers of the film, who died during production.
Thanks so much for that information! I always wondered about that.
"help me straighten out my Longfellow" is still one of my favorite jokes.
The history teacher was played by Sam Kinison who was a big comedian in the 80’s and really good friends with Dangerfield. His whole stage personality was screaming about everything which he picked up when he was a fire and brimstone Pentecostal preacher.
I miss that guy. I loved it when he would call a guy or girls ex on the phone and yell at them in front of the crowd
Sam Kinison was also a legit preacher before being a comedian! :)
His standup was so great. My dad loved it and so I got to see a bunch of them on vhs. The good old days.
Dangerfield owned a major comedy club in NYC, and gave Kinison his first big national break on the club's HBO special: ruclips.net/video/PRbnTNL4UAM/видео.html
The secretary Marge Sweetwater is Edie McClurg. She was in Ferris Bueller too. "He's a righteous dude." Love her.
Rodney Dangerfield was big time comedian back in the day. His stand up is absolutely hilarious
Rodney Dangerfield was always so hilarious! I love this movie!
April of 1992 was such a bad month, we lost Sam Kinnison and Benny Hill! :(
Got to love the cameo by Kurt Vonnegut.
That scene is so spot on.
Saw it in the theater. Recognized Vonnegut as soon as the door opened. I was all "No way!"
The bit with Vonnegut was similar to a real event. Vonnegut’s nephew wrote a paper on one of his uncle’s books. His teacher had a similar response to the one in the movie.
I have seen a talk that Hitchcock's granddaughter had and she has a similar story about a film class she had, teacher didnt know she was his granddaughter and she had Hitch help her with the paper and she didn't get a good grade, Hitch said i guess i don't know my own movies then.
Isaac Asimov told the story of when he was just starting as a writer. He sat in on a class where the teacher discussed his short story, "Nightfall." After class, he went to the teacher and told him that everything he said about the meaning of the story was wrong. The teacher asked him how he knew, and Asimov said, "Because I wrote it." The teacher replied, "And just because you wrote it, what makes you think you understand it?"
Easy Money 1983 next, please.
Rodney's quips are amazing. Such a great cast and fun movie. Jason starred in Christine. A fun movie for Halloween.
Good review guys.
OMG the summer of 86. So many great movies! Back to School, Top Gun, Aliens, Big Trouble in Little China, Ruthless People, Stand By Me, Manhunter, The Fly, Ferris Bueller's Day off, Running Scared, Short Circuit. I saw all of these in the theatre, almost all more than once. "Easy Money"(1983) is a great Rodney Dangerfield movie thats been forgotten. Joe Pesci plays his best friend in it and it has a great theme song by Billy Joel. Also "Ruthless People" a great comedy!! One of Danny Devito's best performances!!
Running Scared! And my fave, Howard the Duck!
I was only 12 in 86. Saw all those movies you mentioned. One of my favorite years. I also started working out since seeing Arnold in Terminator.
I saw Howard the Duck in the theatre too.@@adambailey2523
And Cobra, too.
Fuuu All those in 86? Man, we didn't know how good we had it. Back when comedies were funny.
Both of my kids thought the same thing about color. I didn't realize until then that they thought I grew up in black and white. 😂😂😂
Idk if It's my favorite part but Sam Kinison's teacher meltdown is very rewatchable.
The whole movie is rewatchable though, I've probably watched this 30 times
William Zabka the ultimate villain of the 80s: Back To School, Karate Kid, Just One of the Guys, National Lampoons European Vacation.
God, I miss Jack!
Listen, the kid's the star of the show. Make her some chocolate milk! 😄
The studio audience applause for the lil one is hilarious
Back then the best line was “Why don’t you call me sometime when you have no class?”.
Now I relate to “She gives great headache”.😂
Gen-X person, by far my favorite scene is the history teacher. Miss the late, great Sam Kinison so much! Great Rodney D. movie. Miss him too!
The tension in Mrs Movies face during Kinison's rant is priceless. 🤣🤣🤣
Dad! Thanks for picking this one. Dangerfield has done several movies I don't really care for, but this movie really made him a warm and caring person. The whole gist of this was so he could be with his son; Rodney's character was a good person. I love this movie.
The son in this Keith Gordon he plays Arnie in Christine, also it was good to see Sam kinisan as a teacher.
He played the crazy teacher.
Kinda like how he was in real life as a stand up.
Keith Gordon was also in Jaws 2.
Oingo Boingo was very famous for about 30 years. Though you might recognize their lead singer better by his name is, Danny Elfman. He's been writing movie scores for all of Tim Burtons movies since the eighties.
And The Simpsons.
And Peewee's Big Adventure
That Kurt Vonnegut cameo was one of the best cameos of all time lol
Never heard of her
@@GeorgeTropicanahim lol 😂😂
Thank you so much, Christi and Patrick! I wore out my VHS copy of this movie.
You’re welcome. Glad you enjoyed it.
This movie, like Rodney Dangerfield himself, is a true gem! Such a great, little movie!
This is such a fun movie. And I love finding ways to reference the Triple Lindey when ever I can. :D
His movies "Lady Bugs" and "Easy Money" are a lot of fun as well.
RIP Rodney, Sam, and Hot Lips.
OG Hot Lips.
6:23 It's the Doctor from ST:DS9!! Also, Meg Mucklebones from Legend, the serial killer from The Howling and the Split Face Thing model in John Carpenter's The Thing!!
If you want another Rodney Dangerfield movie try Easy Money. It's my favorite of his movies.
Easy Money is the best Rodney Dangerfield movie, you really should check it out. Plus it has the title song by Billy Joel so you can't go wrong! 199!
Rodney Dangerfield: I called my girlfriend one night and she says come on over , no one's at home. I went over, no one was at home! No respect.
As a matter of fact, I first saw this movie at a _Star Trek_ convention. Terri Farrell has a part in it and she plays Jadzia Dax on _Deep Space Nine._ I previously had _no_ acquaintance with it, and I was _instantly_ charmed by Dangerfield's performance. The man was a _legend._
Please tell me that the Trek fans celebrated seeing Robert Picardo in a moustache
@@ZoahLord Oh my god! Is _he_ in this, _too?_
@@lazyperfectionist1 He is, however I didn't realise it was him until I watched it a second time
@@ZoahLord Well, shoot. Looks like I'll have to watch it _again,_ now. Which role does he play?
See, this was before _Voyager_ came on the air, so I didn't know about him even though I'd seen him on _The Wonder Years._
@@lazyperfectionist1 He's the dude that Melon's wife is fooling around with
Were you two familiar with Sam Kinison (the history professor) prior to seeing this movie? He was a comedy legend and Rodney helped get him exposure early in his career. RIP Sam.
Hands down the best scene in the movie is the class.with Sam Kinnisson about the Vietnam war. On of my favorites though is when th assistant is taking notes in the class with the son next to her not being able to control his laughter. It felt like an outtake they decided to keep in.
"well, i didn't know you wanted to get involved in the discussion, mr. helper" 😄
All true, except his claim that the "U.S. pulled out of Vietnam in 1975". It was really 1973 when U.S. combat troops left Vietnam. The South Vietnam government lost the Vietnam War, not the Americans.
Rodney Dangerfield also had a cartoon movie of him as a dog called Rover Dangerfield! it seemed like an odd concept when it came out, but i enjoyed it!
My fav line in this movie was when Melon was handing out pens before class and one guy says "Hey i know you! You're Tall and Fat!" And Melon says "Yeah well you're short and ugly....give me my pen back." LOL!
As a huge Kurt Vonnegut fan, I particularly love this movie.
Sam kinison in the movie was my father’s favorite comedian and still is. Always like his screams and yelling, even though some of the jokes are too close to home though
good answer. good answer. i like the way you think. i'm gonna be watching you.
Some of his stand-up is on RUclips. Marriage and world hunger is my favorite clip.
Such a great, mostly forgotten classic comedy. Dangerfield was such an icon.
This was filmed in Madison Wisconsin at the UW! That's so awesome
I love this movie. Absolutely my favorite Rodney Dangerfield movie. So many good lines.
I also love the themes of this one. He may be a bit odd, but under everything the thing he cares about the most is his son.
Kinda fun seeing a very young Robert Downey Jr. in this. The girl who played the love interest was Terry Ferrell, who went on to play Jadzia Dax in Star Trek DS9.
You left out my favorite line. "What do all men want?" "He wanted you to dress up like Wonder Woman, tie him up with your golden lariat, and force him to tell the truth?"
"Bingo Boingo"
This hurts my soul.
Glad you did this movie. There are so many great movies that barely get any reactions. Fletch is another one of those. You should react to that one too.
Greatest laugh thanks to Rodney
He cuts on the radio in Caddyshack I died 🤣🤣
Apparently Rodney was not only a comedy legend, but was also once a trick diver performing in shows on the east coast when he was younger. If I'm not mistaken, I've heard he actually used to do the "Triple Lindy" dive.
I love the interruption of your daughter that was so adorable ❤
The wife was in a Stephen King film called " Creepshow " and also in a John Carpenter film " Escape From New York " with Kurt Russell and other known actors .
I used to watch this movie often years ago, but it somehow slipped off my radar. I forgot just how funny it is! And who can resist that little cutie's desire for chocolate milk! Her appearances always deserve that applause!!!
"call me when you have no class" 🤣
Terry Farrell, Valerie, went on to play regular cast member Jadzia Dax on "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" for 6 seasons. The guy at the very beginning of the movie that Thornton's wife was cheating with, Robert Picardo, also went on to play regular cast member the Emergency Medical Hologram (EMH) on "Star Trek: Voyager" for all 7 seasons. Sally Kellerman, Diane, played Dr. Elizabeth Dehner in the episode "Where No Man Has Gone Before" on "Star Trek" the original series and Major Margaret J "Hot Lips" Houlihan in the 1970 movie "M*A*S*H." Keith Gordon, Jason, played Arnie Cunningham in John Carpenter's film rendition of "Christine" in 1983.
I genuinely haven't watched this since it was released on VHS and i was just a kid.
It was great seeing Rodney Dangerfield spew one-liners like he invented speaking.
Cheers.
"Call me when you . . . have no class." My wife's favorite movie line ever.
I remember when kids asked and parents answered.
Now, kids ask, parents ask back, kids ask/tell...parents comply.
How sweet.
I remember seeing this when it came out in the theater, and I used to watch it multiple times when it came out on cable. I hadn't thought about it for years, so when I saw you were reacting to it, I was hyped! So many good lines in this movie. 'Caddyshack' might be the film most people think of when they think of Rodney Dangerfield, but IMO, this was his best one. Great reaction!!
Easy Money.
My favorite part is when he reads "the dying of the light." Well done!
Yes, Oingo Boingo was/is a real band, and were big in the 80s. Also, their lead is Danny Elfman who has become huge in movie soundtracks.
Oingo Boingo lead singer, Danny Elfman, is the musical creator for all of Tim Burton's music (and he was the voice behind Jack Skelington on 'Nightmare Before Christmas'); created the theme song for The Simpsons; was behind the music for films such as Big Fish, Batman, Spiderman, Spiderman 2, Men in Black, Scrooged; wrote the music for the series Wednesday. He's been the music behind over a hundred popular films.
It was really cool to see Oingo Boingo in this movie.
Sam Kinnison was a very popular comedian a little before and definitely after this movie.
Sally Kellerman was in the 2nd pilot for Star Trek, the original series.
That was Danny Elfman singing for his band Oingo Boingo. He now writes scores for major movies.
Kinison died in a car accident when he was only in his late 30s, just a few years after this film. Personally, his scene was the funniest scene in the movie for me. I had a few professors with a screw loose, and I related to the scene. (Of course the very first time I saw the film was when I was 9 or 10, so I didn’t get it as much at the time.)
Sally Kellerman was also the original 'Hot Lips Houlihan' in M*A*S*H (the movie) opposite Robert Duvall as 'Frank Burns.'
@@crconway7926 Yes. She's had a long career.
Not gonna lie the Business professor and History teacher scenes are legendary. The business class because the teacher is talking about textbook business whereas Rodney is talking real world business. And the Sam Kinosin's energy is so great.
I saw this in the movie theaters, and loved it. I can’t believe I was only 9
25:13 Holy moly, that's Danny Elfman!! I forgot Oingo Boingo was in this!!
A lot of famous people in this film. Adrienne Barbeau, Terry Farrell, Danny Elfman, Robert Downey Jr. Sam Kinison.
I have to admit that was THE CUTEST TECHNICAL DIFFICULTY - EVER! Lol
Rodney Dangerfield was a stunt diver when he was young, and did most of his dives in the movie. I think the Triple Lindy was pieced together, but it was him.
Classic: We only whip it out on special occasions. It's always special.
One of Rodney's best movies.
Love your reactions, as always. Love your girl making her appearance. The best part is the amazing Sally Kellerman as the professor.
She was the original Hot Lips Houlihan in the movie version of MASH with Donald Sutherland.
This movie is one of my favorites Rodney is the King ..... I so want to see your reactions to the movie KIDS its a very serious film it feels so true to life for us that were coming of age in the 1990s.
After the military, I went to college and found it aggravating how clueless the students were.
When I think about taking some classes now, I know I'll be like Rodney citing reality versus textbook theory.
So glad someone is actually reacting to this:) Rodney, Burt Young aka Uncle Pauly,Robert Downey Jr, Billy Zabka, Keith Gordon, and the lovely Sally Kelleman. Good times. And of course Sam Kinison:)
My favorite quotes “ What’s a bath without BUBBLES hey BUBBLES come here & “Maybe you can help me straighten out my LONGFELLOW “😂😂
Last week, I was reenacting the whole "call me, when u have no class" scene, to my mom. Great Movie
I really liked this movie, and saw it WAY too young, but that was life in the 80's. Late night cable. It's so funny that the "Poster boy for birth control" became Iron Man. I still can't watch the Triple Lindy without full belly laughing. "Easy Money" is another Dangerfield movie with Joe Pesci. It's probably my favorite of his.
Easy Money is a great film with Joe Pesci in.
As someone else pointed out it was the same year as Ferris Bueller and oddly both featured Twist and Shout by the Beatles
11:21 it's Jadzia Dax from ST:DS9!!
RIP: Paxton Whitehead (Philip Barbay). Passed away June 16, 2023.
Rodney is one of my top 5 favorite comedians all time, and this is my favorite movie of his. RIP to a legend.
Professor Terguson and Vietnam is the best thing about this movie.
Oingo Boingo was a real band I saw them live in 1984. The lead singer is Danny Elfman who would become a movie composer who did the soundtrack for most if not all of Tim Burton's movies
this tutor, teacher, entrepreneur, and now prorn company owner can do all 3. my last career in my later years will be teaching when I am done being an entrepreneur and just because i love it.
I have been waiting for a few years for someone to react to this. One of my favorite movies ever. Thanks!
Sam Kinison was an absolute legend.
Used to subscribe to the 'Those that can't do teach.' camp. That ended when I started taking Master Classes. With Ron Howard teaching me how to direct, he's a 100% 'Those that can do - do.' guy. He & other teachers there have changed my feelings on that old saying & I've had to learn to let it go. Great teachers. (Not paid to say this, I wish! )
Finally someone did a reaction to this movie, thank you! But now I'm hungry for some chocolate milk!!
I've always liked to think Derek Lutz is really Tony Stark slumming and partying his way through a college under an assumed name.
ROBBY DOWNER JR?!
🙈🤣 THAT CRACKED ME UP
ONE OF MY FAV MOVIES AND YOU TWO MADE IT EVEN FUNNIER! 😂❤
Rodney Dangerfield & Sam Kinnison in one scene... greatness. Have you seen Easy Money? (Another Dangerfield flick)
Rodney had a soft spot for Sam Kinnison. He helped Sam become a very successful comedian and became close friends with him. It wasn't easy to make Rodney laugh, but Sam could do it no problem. If you look closely in the scene while he screams at Rodney, when Sam rips the back of the chair, Rodney starts to crack up laughing with his back to the camera, you can see him shaking! 😂
"Easy Money" and "Meet Wally Sparks" are worth a look. Loved Sam Kinison as a stand-up comedian!
I still quote this movie since it came out 37 years ago 😂
My favorite part was when the Mutant Ninja Turtle came in to get chocolate milk. :D
Springsteen was huge in the mid 1980s. When I was in college in 1984 you could bet that going past a dorm you would hear either Bruce Springsteen's Born in the USA or Prince's Purple Rain.
0:00 Hold up, hold up, hold up. Is that Jadzia Dax holding those folders??
6:35 Holy cow, the EMH doctor is there too. Any more characters from the Star Trek universe appearing in this film.
Valeri (I THINK) is the came women from Depp Space Nine. I forget her name, but she was Worfs love intrest.
I always liked the part where Thornton list real world business problems versus academic.
They had camera crews at the University of Wisconsin-Madison for the 1985-86 school year taking footage of students walking around for this movie. Never saw myself in any of the footage. And yes, I am that old.
Never seen this Movie before, such a host of talent in the cast. Rodney Dangerfield was legendary, with the quips.
"Easy Money" is a must watch movie..my all time favorite Rodney dangerfield movie!
More people should react to this movie! It’s funny ASL! Rodney Dangerfield is so funny!
Saw it in the theater. I had read a lot of Vonnegut and when the kid opened the door my jaw hit my lap.
