Terrible line
Good line
@@juniegyllenhaal3937 Very, very good line
@@juniegyllenhaal3937what are you a kid? I love and hate rain for the exact same reason lol. Good line
@@juniegyllenhaal3937 You sure showed him for liking a line you don't like. Way to go edgy boi! 🤣🤣
Hey! I was a PA on this film, I’m from Boston. Denzel is truly a sweetheart in person. Super kind and gave autographs to bystanders that were onlookers on set. This movie is hands down my fav feature film that I’ve had the pleasure of working on in my own city.
Funny to me how Boston Sand and Gravel is always where criminals are in action movies in the city. Bet they don’t like the advertising.
Thanks for sharing!!
I always like hearing about when actors I like are actually good people =)
What other movies have you worked on?
@@YouMeTheMovies ruclips.net/video/UVV2CmTJauI/видео.html&ab_channel=BillSimmons
I have NEVER seen a Denzel performance that wasn’t excellent. Man is a damn national treasure!
The man is top notch.
He wasn’t always good. Remember him as Urkel on Family Matters?
They did such a good job in this film. They showed how good he is when he dealt with Slavi, so when they just show him putting that sledgehammer back, your mind fills in the blanks.
Denzel and Liam Neeson could team up for the most violent and intense remake of Grumpy Old Men ever.
The best part was when the Russian guy went to Robert’s apartment. Everything about their body language and dialogue was hilarious. The Russian guy was about to leave and then he walks back up and Robert closes the distance incase dude wanted to try somthing. Also Robert was basically telling him it was him who he was underneath, like the conversation behind the conversation
Denzel has never done a sequel to any of his movies before this franchise. He believed in this franchise enough to do two sequels. The two of them together make amazing movies.
Has he been in many films that called for a sequel? Most, if not all, of his movies are self-contained stories or adapted from books that were not part of a series.
@@normlee6566 Denzel has been offered to do sequels of some of his other films, and turned them all down. The Equalizer, is the only role he has reprised.
@@impishsongster333 which films?
@@normlee6566 Safe House. Inside Man.
The sequel unfortunately fell flat for me which was a shame as this was such a fantastic start. Denzel was great in the role and the script was pretty strong and it worked as a story.
Great reaction. Every kill is different, same as the 2nd film, which is even better and very emotional. Washington's performance in the 2nd film is truly award winning. I am not exaggerating.
I used to watch the 1980s show 'The Equalizer' that this was based on starring Edward Woodward. I liked the show, but I have to say, IMO, Denzel's take on the character is the best. I think his Zen like approach, his wisdom, and compassion while obviously being haunted by his past really makes his version of Robert McCall so compelling. Can't wait for you to react to the next one and for the new one coming out! Great reaction!!
I _do_ like the overall attitude that Denzel's performance is giving McCall... But I hate how they've turned a fairly subtle guy - who tended to encourage people to stand up for themselves, and for the most part only *_equalized_* situations if the person didn't have a fighting chance - into just another "anonymous vigilante" action hero...
Woodward's McCall was more the spy/information/manipulation type who _could_ fight to a degree if necessary. Denzel's McCall is far more the "highly trained fighter/ninja/assassin/..." that we get in almost every action movie now...
One thing I missed about the show was that McCall had a whole bunch of ex-CIA guys who helped him out. Here he's basically a lone wolf. I wish they had a bit of that in the movies.
McCall answering the email at the end is a call back to the '80s show. That Equalizer would advertise his services in the newspaper classifieds. Ask your parents and grandparents about newspapers, kids. I think you should watch Red with Bruce Willis.
The two Red films are brilliant and very underrated. Definitely should react to them.
Gotta love Mrs Movies. she's the only reactor that I've seen recognize the Gladys Knight & The Pips song playing on the PA system. It's a subtle way for Denzel to let his co-worker know that he's in the building. Most reactors miss that.
Man on Fire. Total badass in that. Goes postal on a bunch of kidnappers in Mexico City
Fun little detail, about the honey: He's not cauterizing the wound when it comes to the honey, he's 'sterilizing' it. Honey, when heated up and purified, can have sterilizing properties. It's perhaps not as effective or quick as simply using Alcohol, either medicinal or from an alcoholic beverage, but it still serves the same purpose.
Denzel Washington's biggest pleasure seems to come from converting his workplace into a Home Alone-style obstacle course for the baddies to endure.
When he set the count for slavi and the gang he didn't subtract nine seconds for taunting but for the first one to attack him. Exact nine seconds after setting the clock the fight starts.
Denzel + Antoine Fuqua(Director) is an amazing combination. They've made several movies together, and I've enjoyed all of them. Even the Magnificent Seven remake.
This film could have been called Home-Mart Alone...
It's like Nolan and hans!! Best combo
"What do you see when you look into my eyes"? Love that line! Appreciate you guys reacting to this. This and part two are my favorites from Denzel. Glad you liked. Continue kicking a_s!
I honestly like the direction and tone of the film towards the end, for the final confrontation scene with Teddy and his men. It goes from an action thriller, to a borderline psychological thriller/slasher horror film with how Robert(Denzel) dispatches Teddy’s men, one by one… it’s almost the same tone as Michael Myers or Jason staking and brutality Murdering their victims from the shadows, which is what I believe the director wanted to convey a bit-- that Robert IS THE MONSTER IN THE DARK, to these type of men who do monstrous things, to the innocent and the vulnerable.
My favorite part of this is when McCall offers the Russian mobsters $9,800 to free the girl, and the consequences that follow their refusal. 👏👏👏👏 Denzel is outstanding in this film!!! 👏👏👏👏
you gonna dye right here on this funky floor broooo
@@benguensche You got it, bro!!! 👍
Classic Equalizer, just as with the original TV series. He'd always start by very reasonably offering the bad guys some kind of 'out', often a quite generous one - eg. "You've made a lot of money, time to pack up and leave" sort of thing. Of course, said bad guys NEVER took the offer, and would soon live to regret it.
I like how it’s $9,800 exactly, it’s a very subtle F you, just shy of an even $10K
@@AdamF89 lol the only way it makes sense it that he didn’t actually have the whole 10k to give. Insulting them wouldnt do him any good at this point
I recommend Denzel in Deja Vu, a sci-fi romance thriller.
Washington is always such a charismatic actor. Another movie of his that would be great to see is FALLEN 1998. A horror/psychological thriller, he plays a detective following a demon/seriel killer. With John Goodman, Donald Sutherland and James Gandolfini (pre Sopranos)
I'd love to see them react to Virtuosity :) Washington + Crowe in a purple suit! 😁
Omfg! Thats one of my favorite all time movies! TIIIIIIIME, IS ON MY SIIIIDE! YES IT IS!
I love FALLEN, and Falling Down too.
Fallen and Virtuosity are both friggin awesome!
@@Deathbird_Mitch "Not economically viable" 💔💔💔😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
This is actually based off a 80s TV show starring Edward Woodward. It also had an awesome opening synth score by Stewart Copeland.
Have you guys seen Man On Fire? It stars Denzel and Dakota Fanning. The reason I ask is they are the stars of the 3rd one. You should definitely check it out before that comes out.
Love all of Denzel Washington's work
Man on Fire is on our channel and should be a recommended video at the end of this.
The Warehouse scene was up there as a top tier action scene in that era imo. We got that and the club scene in John Wick around the same time. Was great.
Book of Eli is a must-see!
It probably isn't the most badass, but I particularly liked the drill kill.
On top of not looking at the explosion while walking away; if are wearing sun glassed and it's night, then you're untouchable
I remember my parents watching the original tv show in the 90's, it was actually the late great Edward Woodward that played him though. And that theme tune was iconic!
I like the new equaliser series
Favorite kill was def the beginning when he took out all those Russians in the club. Favorite Line is def when he was talking to Nicoli at the restaurant and says "I promised someone i would never go back to being that man but for you im going to make an exception" Equalizer 2 has another bad-ass line from Denzel. I mean everything he says and does is badass but still theres things that stick out. Thanks guys!!!! Awesome reaction!!!
The Tv Equilizer is Queen Latifa. the trailer for it where she waddles away from an explosion had me in stitches😂
This is how I accept The Equalizer. Robert is actually Creasy from Man on Fire(2004). He changed his name and got married. Then she died and this movie put Creasy back in action.
I think this is perhaps one of Denzels most underrated performances. Yes its a well regarded movie and very popular but his performance as Robert is every much as nuanced and deep as the hurricane malcolm x or training day. The man is a genius.
I wouldn’t say he’s more badass than John Wick, they’re both badasses in their own ways
Love this film but it's missing one thing - the theme from the 80's TV show.
“Cool guys don’t look at explosions they blow things up and walk away. Who’s got time to watch a boring explosion. There’s cool guy errands that they have to walk to” - the lonely island
One of the most interesting parts of this movie is the money McCall offered.
It highlights the worldview of the different players. Slavi understates it by calling it 9k, McCall is precise with it being 9,800, and Allia overstatung it by calling it "almost 10k"
Everything McCall does is precise, from his ultra tidy bed and apartment, to the specific routine he does at the diner.
@@dongilleo9743 that was the point of my post.
Slavi undervalues everything, McCall is precise, and Alia overvalues.
The way they each reference the money just highlights those characteristics.
So fun fact for you guys. I just thought it was necessary to put this down. Because to us, it means a lot. Denzel Washington is from the same town in New York. That I live in Mount Vernon, New York. He makes those proud every time he is on screen what he does outside of movies the way he carries himself. He's a great representation of the city of Mount Vernon, New York. And we love him daily for it. And he is never shy to return home to show where he came from. That's one of the best things about him.
Favourite kill happens off screen the guy leaves the table Denzel walks in and it's implied that he is not coming back. He never raised his voice, not even when he was sitting opposite the Russian he never lost his patience I think that's what I loved most about his character
Based on the 1985-1989 tv series of the same name. A former CIA operative turns vigilante to help those in need of his assistance. EQUALIZER 3 is coming this Friday.
I read a comment somewhere that pretty much sums up the difference between John Wick and Robert McCall. They both have a lot of similarities but where John Wick is a sledgehammer, Robert McCall is a surgical knife.
Love the Raw is War shirt and Im happy af to see you guys react to Equalizer!
All of Denzel's movie are worth reacting to, but I'm recommending "Unstoppable" because it got great reviews yet tends to be overlooked.
Not solely a Denzel movie, But 1989's Glory is a great performance from him and the other cast, Denzel got a Oscar for his performance..
Ole man Denzel is undefeated 🤣. He needs no real co-stars. He just crushes it.
I'm so glad you mentioned the Wire. Snoop was my favorite. That scene when she bought the nail gun was one of the top 10 of the show!!😂😊
Great reaction! His background is: Defense Intelligence Agency or D.I.A. He also has OCD. He was a Spy, Hitman/Assassin, and Black Ops Operative (formerly)
United States Marine Corps Gunnery Sergeant (formerly)
SKILLS
Military training
High intelligence
Expert marksman
Expert martial artist
High pain tolerance
Expertise in weaponry
Master tactician
Knife mastery
Explosive mastery
Multilingualism
This is the only trilogy for Denzel and it was such a good choice. EQ3 comes out on Thursday and I can't wait. It looks like he'll be taking on the Italian mafia this time and Dakota Fanning will be in it as well. They haven't worked together in 20 years since Man On Fire, so it should be good.
Some of it was filmed in the New England Boston area. My dad was (according to him) going to play the Diner owner, but he had surgery and couldn't do it.
Anyway like the action in this movie!
How awesome would it be if Robert McCall and Robyn McCall were cousins or siblings and both joined the CIA, became legendary operatives, both decided to leave for personal reasons and then, independently of each other, decided to fight the good fight and level the playing field for regular people against the villains & bullies out there? Sadly a Latifah/Washington McCall matchup sharing screen time is probably never gonna happen, although they did share the screen a bit in the Bone Collector when she was his nurse.
The best parts of this movie are the opening quote, because he knows why he was born ... he's a protector. And the fact that he's never prey, in any situation. Especially the part, @21:15, where Nicolai comes to the door as a 'cop' and McCall immediate gets in his space and starts asking him questions that no regular person would ask. That's why he knows all the stuff about him is fabricated.
Also, what his wife loved about him was that she knew at his core, he was a protector. When Susan, @26:52, says: 'he didn't come for help, he came for permission', she meant he was using her to ask his wife's permission to do what had to be done. It's alluded to during the entire movie, with McCall constantly apologizing to her for killing and then finally telling Nicolai at their sit-down that he's willing to break his promise to his wife (to not kill anymore) to end Nicolai and Pushkin's crime regime.
LOVED the TV show back in the day with Edward Woodward and Denzel has made this character his own like he does with all his characters. now you gotta watch 2 and 3 when it comes out to view :)
I love this documentary about Denzel's life off camera
Wait till you see number 2. And it's totally different in most every way. I'm waiting on 3 now. Ohhh yeah.!!!!
You guys are so fun fun to watch.
As we say in Texas; y'all be safe.
Have you seen Reacher movies or series? If not You should definitely check atleast the series! There are two movies with Tom Cruise and one 8 episode season starring Alan Ritchson. Ritchson's character is more close to the books than Cruise's character! Series season 2 is coming december and they are already filming season 3 says internet!
Honey is the best antiseptic healer in the world 😊 Robert is literally Kevin from Home Alone.
28:50 react... This was super enjoyable to see subtle reactions... One of the reactors has training as a psych'ist. Her opinion is more greatly appreciated in this The Equalizer movie.-Ernie Moore Jr.
that "big fella" @37:25 has the distinct honor of getting unalived with extreme prejudice by three one-man armies: john wick & the equalizer in 2014 and the accountant in 2016.
Loved al the puns you were coming up with, when they were at the store 😂😂
Denzel's performance is pretty fkn awesome, emotionless, stealthy n efficient, the perfect Equalizer character
The second movie is awesome... can not wait for the third which is out very soon.
I'm fairly certain that the ending is a homage to the old tv show where bob got equalizing jobs through special ads.
This movie came out the month before John Wick, and it made substantially more money, at least in the theaters.
The Equalizer TV series helped me through some scary situations coming home late at night, taking the bus home. Whenever a situation looked scary, I would ask myself “What would Robert McCall (Edward Woodward) do?”
Don’t walk or act like a ‘victim’, act with confidence, but be polite.
If a situation looked dangerous, trust your guts. Find another route.
You pick up on warning signs, things to avoid, many scenarios from the TV show.
Denzel Washington’s portrayal of Robert McCall was equally excellent. Miss the late Edward Woodward very much.
Fun fact, if the letter D was never invented then Edward Woodward would be called Ewar Woowar. 😂
Great reaction guys 👍. This film is great, I never saw the 80s TV show this was based on but I remember hearing about it back in the day. The book choice at the end was perfect for his style. 👌
One of the real awesome Denzel movies.
Based on the 1980's TV series "The Equalizer" starring Edward Woodward.
Recently discovered -- that is, finally recognized -- who plays the Russian "cleaner" Nikolai: it's Marton Csokas, who also plays Celeborn, Galadriel's husband, in "The Fellowship of the Ring"! It was his voice that rang a bell.
Honey is antibacterial.
It was used in ancient Egypt already, to treat wounds.
42:47 _"probably got a job a HIGHES lumber lard."_

nice one
To quote Lonely Island... Cool guys don't look at explosions. They blow things up and they walk away.
You can’t just walk away from an explosion to not be hurt. You also have to do it in slow motion. Then you’re fine.
He is like a retired John Wick, wait a minute John Wick was already retired… he is like a retired John Wick working at Home Depot
One of my favorites. Good reaction, y'all.
He was putting honey in his wound because it will slowly separate into Gluconic Acid and Hydrogen Peroxide. Hydrogen Peroxide will keep the wound clean. Honey can be used as an antiseptic agent in this way.
His talk didn't make her think shes only a hooker. She was forced into that. He's telling her, she's NOT a hooker, and for her to be who she really is. It's the beginning of her taking a stand, or at least thinking she can. She wants to be a singer. Soon after she makes a CD, and ignores Slavi's calls. That talk is the beginning of her story arc.
“I’m not here to say please. I’m here to tell you what to do.”
I’m guessing the writer was watching Pulp Fiction when they were coming up with this movie
TV series was good from what I remember as a kid
Staring Edward Woodward
( Before he passed away, one of his last roles was in Hot Fuzz he was the CCTV GUY that died when the landmine landed on him )
The 80s series was with Edward Woodward who had previously done a 70s Tv series called Callan . I'm not sure how it would stand up now but I Loved it as a kid 😁
36:51 That's what we call a Close Quarters Battle drill 🤪
I checked out when she said “ I didn’t hear battery acid anywhere in that conversation”. I’m 👂👂👂👂👂👂👂👂

I'd argue this was superior to "John Wick."
@@ConstantineFurman I think they're both excellent but John Wick is a little flashier and has a dog so I understand why people responded better to it after it's dvd release. Equalizer did better at the box office but JW has good dvd numbers and got its sequel out first.

there are 3 movies of The Equalizer! Every movie and every detail is mixed with the others! got to pay close attention while watching. Also, watch man on Fire! as it ties into the third equalizer.
In all of the three Equalizer movies, does Robert ever reply to the dying bad guys when they ask 'Who are you?'
When you hear the theme music whoever Denzel is looking at is gonna get brutally murdered lol
Boston is an old unplanned city towards the North End. But if you know the streets by heart, it's easy to dissapear from a visitor.
The Tattoos are ranking in the Russian Mob. They tell the story of his ascent as well as whi he is. Honey is a natural bandage, antiseptic, and has anti bacterial properties. Its used in burn wards as it allows oxygen in and keeps the vad out abd reduces the pain as O2 promotes healing, but the usual treatment was painful as the wounds need O2. That eas till Honey's abilities were found.
The 80's show had an older british actor as the Equalizer, but before hiring him, they asked denzel of he wanted to do the show, he did, but couldn't as he was already doing St Elswhere or whatever that hospital drama was named for like 6 years. So he did these movies instead, and these are the only movies where he did a sequel to. The third one comes out like in a week or so.
Not once does he use a firearm to kill any one. He uses unique ways to take people out, border line horror movie types of way to kill people. When he "shot" Slavi, it wasn't him using the gun, it was the henchmen who still had the gun, and Robert deflected the aim and made the guy fire at Slavi. When Teddy said he was sending a message when he beat the crap out of the Irish mob boss, he was sending a message to the other mobs/gangs there in Boston, most likely the Italian Mafia for one. This was based on the 80s television show, which I'm sure others have mentioned.
