Paradise Kayaking to New Zealand's Whenuakura Island (Formerly Known as Donut Island)

- The secluded paradise of Whenuakura Island (Formerly Known as Donut Island) lies just off the coast of Whangamata Beach on the Coromandel Peninsula of New Zealand. They say it takes about 30 minutes to reach the island by kayak, but it only took us a quick 15 minute paddle. We rented our kayaks from Surfsup Whenuakura Island Tours, who I highly recommend!

In that area check out Homunga Beach. Access from Waihi Beach. It's a 6km walk each way but really nice. Small waterfall onto the beach. Track along top of cliffs. You can also walk down from Homunga Rd but it's a tough walk back up. Or walk one way from North to South and taxi back to your car.
Oh nice!! Thanks for the info. We're in Northland now but good to know if we return 🤙
@@JesseStLouis Homunga is not a location for swimming holes and canyoneering, but really nice scenic hike with streams coming out onto the beaches. I'm also touring NZ right now and been to many of the same places. Seems like we might have crossed paths at some point.
@@yffips oh cool, we'll probably run into each other on the North Island somewhere. The further North you get, it starts to get a lot more cozy.🤙
@@JesseStLouis I went the other direction and now in Catlins. I'm not too familiar with canyoneering but there's tons of awesome beaches and mountain hikes in Northland. Check out Whangarie Heads, Te Whara track, St Pauls Rock, Duke's Nose, etc. There used to be a guy that does quad bike tours up the beach at Great Exhibition Bay to Parengarenga inlet. I can't find that guy any more but if you can find a way up there it is well worth it to see the pure white sand dunes on a sunny day (lotion required). And perhaps more up your alley, Poor Nights Islands for scuba and snorkelling. It's a bit commercialized and you'd likely have to go with a tour group but definitely the best sea-life in NZ.
We just checked out Homunga Beach today, awesome spot!!
