Heck yeah, had the same truck, my favorite truck I've owned, the 460 with the carb was satisfying for some reason, and it got better mileage than my current 97 f250 hd, it only gets 6mpg around town.
@jeffellison8427 The 87 F350 CCLB we had was an absolute tank. It would pull a house down with 4:10s and a C6 combo. Sure miss that family pickup, it's been 20 years.
I special ordered an 88 f150 4x4 custom with the new 351 injected engine, c6 automatic with 3:55 gears 8.75 rear ls and ls in the front too. The engine was strong as was the tranny and read end. I was too light in the rear and the gauges didn't work (oil pressure and sometimes the fuel gauge). It had dual tanks (needed them). I hated the independent front suspension and the truck was so light that it bounced all over the road. It cost a tad over $16K, had no carpet, no power windows or seats. I never broke anything and I rode it hard.
Base model truck back then was the Custom. Alot of people converted these fuel injected engines to carb, and some from carb to fuelly. Really easy to do on those older EFI Fords.
You know why people trust Ford more than Chevy? Because even though Ford shows off, Chevy shows off more to the point where its like screamin' to the world, "My *bleep* is bigger!" Guess what Chevy...people don't like show offs and get annoyed with them fast. This is why Ford will always be America's truck.
Remember. We all might bicker about which truck is better, but in the end, every truck is great for a different reason. Except for the Honda Ridgeline. It's just a Honda Pilot with a bed.
I know it wasn’t around at the time, but I’m sure a 7.3 Powerstroke could haul the truck hauling the mountain with the ford hauling the Chevy, Dodge, and GMC. On top of that, the 7.3 Powerstroke was on the same platform as that Ford.
Julio Moreno I think the onstar, smooth dash curves, radio, cruise control, a/c, tachometer, speedometer that goes past 85mph, and overdrive button on the shifter give it away.
I love how the Chevy guys talk shit on the fords but there always working on there's! lol Mine lasted from 87 till now with the original drive train and 6.9 diesel. Now the only reason i'm working on it is because its getting restored. Same as in the video.
Lol a 6.9 IDI F250 is literally about too slow and gutless to self destruct. I'm sure a 460 with two dead cylinders running 3 quarts low pulling a loaded trailer would fly past an unloaded 6.9 uphill.
@Warren probably because there are more Chevy trucks still on the road then there are Fords. They basically sell neck-and-neck between GM and Chevy. But go out and try to find a 73 through 87 Ford truck still on the road, much less working everyday. You can find a square body Chevrolet every single day of the week, still out there working. You're lucky if you still find a Ford from the mid-90s
@Warren was gonna say, we have an 86 250 351m, an 85 bronco i6, and an 87 ranger ST-X 2.9L. Haven't seen many chevys that aren't half dead and rotted to shit sitting on stands around here.
"aerodynamic ford truck" never! I'm guessing they tried to do what that ford did using a chevy and it couldn't do it, so they were like well we'll just use movie magic and turn it into a joke
i think its funny how people are argueing over ford/ chevy when we all know that most of them are like 14 and havent even driven a car yet... im a diehard ford guy but chevys are good to. gm took bail out money not ford, " ford, not built with your tax dollars"
th3shameless they also completely unfairly conducted those tests and nearly all of their "real people not actors" are fukin actors. but I can't defend the fact that the new ford trucks AND Chevy trucks are fukin garbage
@@lynndempsey4096 there is not a nickels worth of difference between Ford and Chevrolet I have owned several of both brands they all have their problems and good qualities it narrows down to preference and opinion
Did you watch the end of the video where the Chevy is pulling the 3 trucks and the pile of rock, lol. I guess the only thing that comes close recently is the Toyota Tundra commercial where it tows the space shuttle. For short distances on level pavement, trucks can far exceed their towing capacity for demonstration purposes. I'm sure there's some disclaimer that basically tells you that your truck really isn't designed to do this and if you do and destroy your transmission or rear end, the dealer isn't going to fix it.
No manufacturer is immune to the idea of using tricks. Since I used to pull-start my old cabover Peterbilt, with a loaded bulk trailer, with a mid-80s S10 (hey... those batteries ain't cheap), not such a big deal. Let 'em have their dog-n-pony show, and some folks have made their respective marques into a sort of religion anyway.
In reality, all the trucks then as they are now are pretty much equal. It comes down to personal preference as to what you buy. No one truck does any one thing much better than the rest. One has the best fuel economy but not by much. One is cheaper, but not by much. One tows the most, but not by much. On and on. If you're a Ford man, you buy a Ford, a Chevy man buys a Chevy, Dodge man buys a Dodge, etc.
I got you all beat, 86 scottsdale 6.2. It will pull anything you hook to it and get 28mpg. Of course 0-60 is about 28sec which is why my daily driver is a 99 f250 7.3. The scottsdale does ride better though, and has a dump bed.
My thoughts exactly. The Ford was obviously REAL footage of a fucking MONSTER Ford towing other wannabes up a damn rocky hill. That chevy commercial was a joke.
It was that commercial that helped my family decide in 87 to buy an F-250 with (at that time) the largest V8 available in a pickup . (A 460) You know what? That pickup is now mine, it's not in the shop and it pulls anything I put behind it . Yes the gas mileage is awful . But it does it's work using simple mechanicals and is long paid for . Where are all the other competing trucks from that era ? I sure don't see them around like I see the trucks like mine .
Didn't even think about the trailer being under its own power at the end. Yes it looked fake because it apparently was. Those damn marketing people, no truth in advertising. The Ford was hauling and towing 3 truck bodies most likely with no engine or transmission in them so it wasn't really that impressive either. A new(insert your favorite truck) could probably tow 10 trucks like that.
I own an aerodynamic Ford F-250, same year and engine as the truck in the commercial. It gets 8 miles per gallon, still tows my 30 foot travel trailer with ease, everything (including the a.c.) works, and has over 205k miles on it, with zero rust . Don't tell me that a non-Ford product from that era is somehow better . I know better . You Dodge guys couldn't compete at that time because the largest engine you could get was a 360. (You also had no diesel option yet) , You GM guys (in 1987 and 1988) couldn't get the 454 in the new body style (You had do buy an old body style Suburban or 3500 for that, same goes for your Diesel option) . So even if the Ford were only towing truck bodies, at least it was honestly towing something .
My problem is I just love trucks, ALL OF THEM! Damn I just can't get enough. Trailers, equipment all of it! I live to lay on the ground all night working on something or all day in the hot sun. Now just waiting to hear from my brother so I can tidy up my utility trailer. you know sand quick & paint, re-wire, service hubs, seal tounge box and whatever else i can get done.
i drive a 88 body style k2500.Get 9-10mpg. Dont care. Just funny they even bothered mentioning aerodynamics like they knew anything about it back then.
Wanna know something funny? Louis Joseph Chevrolet was Swiss, raised in France, had nothing to do with America until GM helped the poor guy. First production Corvette in 1953 was a 3.8L V6 convertible for women. The shape had to be changed just to compete with high quality racecars like Ford and Ferrari, and still lost. First Cobra: 289 ->V8 great performance on the roads and track straight from factory. The reason people finance vettes is because they can't afFORD the Viper (Cobra) and most so called "chevy fans" have never seen a GT40 or Viper in person. The hurt feelings have gone on for many generations. Most of it from under age teenagers who are subscribed to Car Throttle, and have never owned a car at all. The kids thinking they are "badass" by doing a drag race, have never seen the WRC or Baja. . Right now, lookin' at a nice '79 K10 Scotsdale for sale and I've owned an '81 Trans Am and now a '79 Camaro. Starts on the second try ;) If I could buy a Plymouth Road Runner, I most definitely would, but I can't afford that, so the cheapest to get is a Chevrolet. The only vehicles that remain appealing forever are the metal ones, but don't bash Henry Ford or Carroll Shelby for being Americans.
Ferd may be able to haul a whale, that just ate a horse, that was as big as a house....but chevy will haul the the road you're driving on, while you're driving on it...........FACE
Chanze Sexton They were real truck bodies, most likely with no engine or transmission or probably even any interior in them either. Regular cab short bed too. So the Ford wasn't working nearly as hard as the ad would have you believe. Someone else mentioned that the mountain the chevy was pulling was actually powered and was simply following the truck. Its all marketing bs.
Greg Rowe I know thats why I said what I said. The 90's like a rock commercials are probably legit. I bet none of the trucks made it to the showroom but it would seem kinda hard to fake those to me.
I've heard lots of people over the years knock ford 460 engines and I am a chevy guy always will be but I do own a 1984 F250 that has the 460 and it will pull anything I hook behind it I have converted the truck to a 4 speed transmission however also own a chevy K30 truck and it is like the ford will pull anything you hook it to but the chevy gets a little better gas mileage for some reason 13MPG from the 454 vs the 10.5 of my 460
Typical Ford fanboy. Did you know. Ford counts Chevy and GMC as different companies? Ahaahaha so when you count them as one brand which they are. Ford is actually about second to Gm.
It's the same as gmc and Chevy being one company ford and the others are one company and much larger the gm and ford did not get government bailout money they sell enough that they don't need it
Nothing in these commercial is true, they always do this. The only universal truth is what the manual said you could do, which is funny, because the manual has to abide law (for fear of lawsuits). Once you bought the truck, you signed your papers, it's your problem if you go mental on it.
The only reason why ford sells so much is there government contracts and they have the cheapest basic work truck(witch so many companies buy). You could put gm's truck numbers with dodges numbers and they still wouldn't out sell ford.
actually the difference between GM and Ford truck sales isn't much, infact GM is outselling Ford trucks for the last 3 months! a bit of a shallow victory because they say one of the factories is down to build the new aluminum brick though I have no idea why this would change how many units people buy...

Sure miss that family pickup, it's been 20 years.
chevy is just pulling foam
If you look closely at the chevy commercial one of the rocks actually fall off and bounces off the ground...haha hilarious.
The whole thing is hilarious!
he was driving on flat surface, not fair, and that thing was foam xD
No!!!!!!!It's a real mountain!!! HAHAHAHA
Ford boys gonna say the trucks were foam too lol
These commercials actually forced an involuntary "Yee haw! Yip yaw!" out of me. 🤠
460 Motor is the best motor you could ask for in a truck. Got an 89 F250 HD with one. I can tow anything that Chevy can.
Yep, great engines, they will run a long time if you keep oil in it
7.3 IDI, if you go watch Zip Ties N Bias Plies he's well proven that nothing can kill an IDI.
I love seeing companies call each other out like this. Sadly chevy went to the “Real People, Not Actors” phase for like 8 years
Ford and Chevy make the best cars ever!
Lol
That Chevy & GMC, I don't see many of those generation fullsize light duty trucks out on the roads anymore like I use to back in those days.
No it's cuz it breaks and it's cheaper to get a new one
Done
LOVE BOTH FORD AND CHEVY
chevy lasts longer
Remember. We all might bicker about which truck is better, but in the end, every truck is great for a different reason.
Except for the Honda Ridgeline. It's just a Honda Pilot with a bed.
All of Chevy's response commercials to Ford trucks are hilarious. They really stuck it to Ford.
Chuckled when he said most aerodynamic. That title actually goes to the Aerostar 😉
I like Chevy but I don't hate Ford
Heartbeat of America, today's Chevrolet!
very nice i gotta say i love my chevy
I know it wasn’t around at the time, but I’m sure a 7.3 Powerstroke could haul the truck hauling the mountain with the ford hauling the Chevy, Dodge, and GMC. On top of that, the 7.3 Powerstroke was on the same platform as that Ford.
the 2015 silverado has the same boring interior as they did in 1989
come on gm step of your game!
you didn't have a 1989-94 chevy did you?
way different XD we had 2...
Being blind must suck having a seeing eye dog and all.
Dude open your eyes i have a truck from the late 70s and it's looks super different compared 2009 Silverado GM is doing great
Julio Moreno I think the onstar, smooth dash curves, radio, cruise control, a/c, tachometer, speedometer that goes past 85mph, and overdrive button on the shifter give it away.
Yeah I used to have an 88 Silverado, I haven't been in a 15' but my father has a 11'. Big difference.
I'm the guy that actually prepped those trucks and hauled them there for that film shoot, I remember it well.
I have a 31 year old ford bronco and it still runs like new.
Pretty much any 30 year old car still runs
Ford and chevy both are a great trucks and i love them
I love how the Chevy guys talk shit on the fords but there always working on there's! lol Mine lasted from 87 till now with the original drive train and 6.9 diesel. Now the only reason i'm working on it is because its getting restored. Same as in the video.
The only reason that people say Ford sucks is because their the best, and the best always gets the most hate
Lol a 6.9 IDI F250 is literally about too slow and gutless to self destruct. I'm sure a 460 with two dead cylinders running 3 quarts low pulling a loaded trailer would fly past an unloaded 6.9 uphill.
Umm I hope u know Chevy proved that they made better high quality trucks than ford since the 50s right ?
LONG LIVE THE IDI AND EFI, best engines ever
Carburetor!
i think its funny how people are argueing over ford/ chevy when we all know that most of them are like 14 and havent even driven a car yet... im a diehard ford guy but chevys are good to. gm took bail out money not ford, " ford, not built with your tax dollars"
better than chevy dropping toolboxes in ford beds
th3shameless they also completely unfairly conducted those tests and nearly all of their "real people not actors" are fukin actors. but I can't defend the fact that the new ford trucks AND Chevy trucks are fukin garbage
I love both. Chevy or ford never put me down .
"CHEVROLET"
@@lynndempsey4096 there is not a nickels worth of difference between Ford and Chevrolet I have owned several of both brands they all have their problems and good qualities it narrows down to preference and opinion
@@terrypresnell9100 True.
@@terrypresnell9100 apples to oranges...................................... but rly they were LEMONS!!!!
I'm a Ford man let's be honest none of those trucks that it's pulling has an engine its just pulling bodies
Greg Rowe at the time dodge was the loser. The biggest motor they offered was a 360
Noah Garay But they had the 5.9 Cummins too.
Ford stands for fix it again tony hehe.
You're thinking of a fiat dale
Tyson Tollstrup did you say you want to suck it again?
@@ghoulredeyedemon2024 fix it again ... tony oh
I got you all beat, 86 scottsdale 6.2. It will pull anything you hook to it and get 28mpg. Of course 0-60 is about 28sec which is why my daily driver is a 99 f250 7.3. The scottsdale does ride better though, and has a dump bed.
Funny how the ford didn't use special effects and trick photography not to mention a powered fiberglass trailer
My thoughts exactly. The Ford was obviously REAL footage of a fucking MONSTER Ford towing other wannabes up a damn rocky hill. That chevy commercial was a joke.
topical ford guys sitting around watching videos while there trucks in the shop again
It was that commercial that helped my family decide in 87 to buy an F-250 with (at that time) the largest V8 available in a pickup . (A 460)
You know what?
I love how they talk about how aerodynamic she is hauling a truck on the bed sideways and 2 behind it. oh and the fuel efficient 7.5 liter.
I get 8mpg in mine lmao
@@GaryGang911 My best friend has a 460 F-350 and yeah, 9.5 mpg was normal for him lol.
Best part was that it would still get 8.5 when towing!
@@samnangchea5025 I just bought a 86 F250 last weekend and it's got a carbed 460, I plan on putting a 4 barrel on it and restoring it.
I loved that too, all those trucks had the aerodynamics of a brick
i drive a 88 body style k2500.Get 9-10mpg. Dont care. Just funny they even bothered mentioning aerodynamics like they knew anything about it back then.
Well....sure has been a while since i've gotten a usefull comment like this!
Thank you sir!
Your so right on!
When the Chebbie was towing the "Mountain" I was waiting for the "HD" Suspension to snap.
Or transmission to fail
Or the motor to burn up. Lol
LoL these commercials are hilarious :)
Did they seriously have the balls to say "aerodynamic"?🤣
More aerodynamic than todays chunky full-size trucks
Ferd may be able to haul a whale, that just ate a horse, that was as big as a house....but chevy will haul the the road you're driving on, while you're driving on it...........FACE
any truck can pull that gay mountain...... its on wheels.......and its not even rock, its styrofoam...
And the trucks on the mountain? Those were Styrofoam as well?
Chanze Sexton They were real truck bodies, most likely with no engine or transmission or probably even any interior in them either. Regular cab short bed too. So the Ford wasn't working nearly as hard as the ad would have you believe. Someone else mentioned that the mountain the chevy was pulling was actually powered and was simply following the truck. Its all marketing bs.
the road made of styrofoam.
Greg Rowe I know thats why I said what I said. The 90's like a rock commercials are probably legit. I bet none of the trucks made it to the showroom but it would seem kinda hard to fake those to me.
I've heard lots of people over the years knock ford 460 engines and I am a chevy guy always will be but I do own a 1984 F250 that has the 460 and it will pull anything I hook behind it I have converted the truck to a 4 speed transmission however
also own a chevy K30 truck and it is like the ford will pull anything you hook it to but the chevy gets a little better gas mileage for some reason 13MPG from the 454 vs the 10.5 of my 460
7.5 liter engine? Damn.
Yeah that 7.5 liter is called the 460 big block
@@aopspot4691 and it was gutless
And yes that is a REAL MOUNTAIN!!!!!
cracks me up how chevy guys deny ford has been and always be the number one selling truck. Its for a reason!
Typical Ford fanboy. Did you know. Ford counts Chevy and GMC as different companies? Ahaahaha so when you count them as one brand which they are. Ford is actually about second to Gm.
Did you know ford and international as well as Groton are one company Chevy boy lol
That's aeromax not Groton dang spell check
What does that have to do with anything?
It's the same as gmc and Chevy being one company ford and the others are one company and much larger the gm and ford did not get government bailout money they sell enough that they don't need it
I'm happy with my 76 highboy it never done me wrong
he was driving on flat surface, not fair, and that thing was foam xD
Nothing in these commercial is true, they always do this. The only universal truth is what the manual said you could do, which is funny, because the manual has to abide law (for fear of lawsuits). Once you bought the truck, you signed your papers, it's your problem if you go mental on it.
Back then Ford offered the 460 cu.in. big block v/8 = excellant torque and power
Chevy may mean,,,THE HARTBREAK OF AMERICA 😁😁
Heart attack of America...
P L 😂😂😂
Well i still give all these old trucks credit. I still see quite a few on the road 20+ years later. They had to have done something right i guess.
LOL THAT WAS A GOOD ONE!!!!! FORD ALL THE WAY!!!!
Excellent trucks.🇺🇸👍
That was great much hilarious nice chevy.
And this kind of thing, folks, is why Trey and Matt had so much to work with.
mountain is small, the chevy was not towing trucks up slope, ford for the win
+Mountain Anderson chevy is also pulling 2 trucks up that mountain. lol
rudedude13
no it isn't it is hauling them, there is a difference ding dong
on a flat surface.......
ford was pulling 3 trucks up slope
I'm a Refugee
a flat surface those were boulders idiot
@blazerlover25 thank you for basicly restating the whole commercial in your comment... really helped us all
To bad Chevy still follows in Fords shadow. Ford will always be number 1
They weren't from 1955-1976
until you realized combined the Chevy and GMC twins outsold ford F150 and Superduty in 2002 to 2005
The only reason why ford sells so much is there government contracts and they have the cheapest basic work truck(witch so many companies buy).
+Greg Dragoo fords are more expensive
I like how the call it aerodynamic
No chevy would ever be able to do that. chevy can barely hall it's self .
+Daniel Haas *HAUL *ITSELF
+Clint Childers chevys can go any were were it is being towed by a ford!
your words would have more bite if they were spelled correctly (haul not hall) obvious Ford fan.
sucks to be you 😲
i like these old commercials.........
Ford trucks are better...period.
Holy f*#$!! Truck commercials in the 80's and 90's were fucking awesome!!!
