Amazing! Can't believe someone wth no experience has the nerve to undertake a project of this magnitude and looks like you're doing a great job!!! You definitely have my admiration!
I think the previous owner would be proud of this cars new caretaker. Please keep the updates rolling in. This car is a monstrous task, however, the results will be rewarding for not just you, but for everyone!
My man, you are on a mission. To learn mechanics and restoration on the fly is no small task. I had a 53 Pontiac deluxe convertible. The hardtop was new for both Ford and GM for 51, a historic piece of automobile history is in your hands, and I know you'll do it justice.
It has been entirely learning lol! 53 was a great year too since it was the new body style. Interesting piece of Pontiac history is that the 53 body style was supposed to come out in 51 for the 25th "Silver Anniversary". However, due to the Korean War, it got pushed back until 1953.
This is definitely a labor of love and you are doing a yeoman's job on it. This isn't just "some old car." It is a family heirloom and you've done your research to uncover as much of the car's provenance as you can. The more provenance you can reveal then the more the car can mean to future generations. Good luck and keep going
Thank you John! Cars are great, but the history behind them is even better. I think I will be putting out a more extensive video of the original owner. He was a golden gloves champion in Michigan. Thanks for watching!
Pontiacs hold a special place for me. Dad was a Pontiac product engineer. He met my mom there when she worked in the payroll dept. I was born in Pontiac (Mich) in '49. I worked in Plant 8 on the assembly line two summers while going to college. Plant 8 is where this Pontiac Catalina was built. Grandpa worked at Fisher Body where the body of this car was made. Grandma worked at Pontiac for a while. I'm going to subscribe so I can watch as this car is reborn.
Hi Randy, a Michigan man I see! I am over here in Lansing so I am not too far. Once I restore it, I will be taking it back to where it was assembled. I didn't know that about Plant 8. Very neat!
Hey man. As an old Pontiac fan from Australia where we never had many of these cars, all I can say is keep plugging away at it and don’t lose interest. Any experience that you don’t have, you learn as you go. The internet is awesome for stuff like this now. I look forward to watching it come back to life. 😊
I know your enthusiasm, admire your skill and tenacity. I have a 1940 Buick Super Eight, 1948 Ford F5 V8 coe, 1949 Plymouth P15 business coupe, 1952 Buick Roadmaster straight eight, 1953 Chevrolet 3800 box van and a 1954 Packard Patrician straight eight here in the UK 🇬🇧. I restored the F5 and I am restoring the Packard and Chevy The others are all on the road. God Bless for all that you have done. Nick Jervis UK 🇬🇧
🎉first car was 49 Pontiac fastback, bought for 300.00. Really enjoyed your video. I have done several rebuilds. I give you lots of credit and I really mean it. Have a 64 GTO now.
As they say where there's a will there's a way and oh boy do you have a abundance of will . It's great to see you still at it would have loved to see more of the work you did but saying that excellent video telling us the history and you're passion of what you want to achieve, for someone with so little skill to start with you're doing an amazing job I take my hat off to you young man. Hopefully we'll see you a bit more often and keep on restoring. Gary 🇬🇧🇬🇧
Good on ya young man.......love to see the old cars brought back from the dead. Stick with it Jace. I used to own a 51 Pontiac and it was an awesome cruiser. Will keep an eye out for your next vid ! Mine was a light green color.
That paint color is nice. I'm suprised at how good it looked after you power washed it. Definately a worthwhile project. It's amazing that you have all of the history on the car. Good luck with the build.
wow, young man you are headed in the right direction . glad to have found your channel. love what you are doing and all the great history you have uncovered about the Marine that did so well for our country. hope you honor him with a SEMPER FI sticker or two. looking forward to more videos from you 👍👍
Thanks Doug! There is a wooden billy club that was under the seat when I found it. Story goes that when he was on base down in NC or SC, he would get into fight with local boys who were jealous since all the girls liked men in uniform. He would keep that billy club with him to fight them off. Ill be restoring that and keeping it in the car
This story warms my heart. So many people don't do things because they don't know how. It's great that you have the cajones to just jump in and get'r done. You are learning the best way possible. I'll be following your story, and enjoying every minute.
You've done a fantastic job so far. My dad had a 51 4 door and I had a 52. Loved those old cars. I hope the rest of your restoration goes well. And thank you for preserving our history.
You're doing great work, bud, and you're restoring it the right way. Take it from someone who's got about 3 resto's under my belt, best thing you can do is just to get out there and get your work done, plain and simple, talk to the old guys, and if you haven't done something before, oh well, best way to learn is just to do it, and you'll get better and better. You are doing an old vet a great service!
Thanks Joseph! That is exactly my plan. I figure the best way to learn is to try. I have a 1977 Trans Am that will be my next project after this one. That's YEARS down the line though...
I grew up in "G.I. housing" after WW II. We had a '50 Chevy 2-door sedan fastback. Only option was the heater. We were poor. If there were a car like this Pontiac in a neighbor's driveway, he'd be considered rich, and extravagant. Enjoyed seeing the attention to detail and old pictures.
HI JACE , AND WIFE TO BE ,, I DIDNT SEE YOUR FIRST VIDEO OR ANY OF YOUR VIDEOS ,, BUT WHAT A GREAT!!! FIND ,,. A MILITARY PVT. MAN BUYING THIS CAR WOW!!! Rock on young man ! My first car was a 53 Pontiac Chieftain I bought for 6 bucks. I'm 70 years old now and a retired mechanic of 51 years. Don't worry about your painting ability...it will come around. Your doing great !
As a former Marine Myself I am enjoying your videos wish I may add are well documented I am gitty with them & may I say they'Re outstanding Ooh Rah !!- thanks for saving a brothers dream now its time for you to enjoy , GOD bless you and all that you love !!! OOH' RAH !!! SEMPER FI .
These cars were so beautiful back in the day, they were sold dirt cheap . $2000 brand new straight out the lot , you really lucked out with this beautiful car my friend . I hope you never sell it ,just keep with it in the family ,that’s just me my brother.thanks for sharing.
Great project. My parents first car was a 50 Pontiac. After that we were an Oldsmobile family. Those straight 8 engines were really well made. We look forward to seeing the next progress. You’ll never regret doing this and it’s super cool your fiancé is involved, way cool. ❤️🐰
It is very inspirational to see someone put forth the effort to restore a vehicle that some would consider "junk". I have always felt, that no matter the condition, or how bad it appears, there is almost always a possibility for it to be salvaged and restored. My brother has a 1965 and two 1966 Mustangs in his back yard that he has plans to build into one nice vehicle. He is a couple of years from retirement and plans to do the project when he is no longer working the regular 9 to 5. I have expressed interest in learning to weld on that project when the time comes. Thanks for providing the inspiration to "jump into it with both feet". I look forward to more progress on your project.
Love the old 50's Pontiacs. I owned a 57 Super chief and wish I had never let it go. I look forward to seeing the progress you make on the restoration.
I'm impressed. That car is so rough. I love the original lines are the car. I have a 1950 Oldsmobile and they're not that much different on the general lines. But the story of the man who bought the car. I worked with a man who's 10 years older me easily and his brother was probably 15 years older than him. His brother is here because at the reservoir the same reservoir. He stacked for others fellow servicemen on top of him who are already dead. If you'd only put one or two of them on top of him he would have been killed as well. It involves Chinese soldiers that came across with bayonets. For this man originally bought card and to survive the reservoir. And from you on the be such a decorated Marine this says so much about him and about you and your fiance who are restoring his car. Now I'm going to go back and part one and watch this part 2 from the beginning so I have more of the story. You have something here. I went ahead and subscribed a channel. I believe that I will not be disappointed. May I recommend Joe at the rest Ranch south of Wichita Kansas. You can find him with a Google search. I believe he'll have Parts you probably will want for this car. I have bought a few things from him and sent countless numbers of people to him. Joe is intelligent and always learning. He has well over 500 vintage cars in his Parts yard. This is his business this is what he chose to do. I really want to get to hear more of the story about the original owner and what you're going to do with the car. And this is a good time for me to find your channel. Very very recently a specific day marked the one-year anniversary of a 21-gun salute funeral for my cousin. He lost his battles from his injuries. He would tell you that he did nothing great he just took the man's money and did the man's job. By the way if Joe does not have any parts for you I know of a few in locations where these cars are at. More than glad to hear no strings attached and those information so you can contact then when you desire to. Thank you and I'll try to leave much shorter comments in the future.
You're definitely on a mission and you'll learn what to do and not do along the way. Smart move getting donor cars to finish yours. It's obvious you're determined to git r done ! Good luck hope to see more videos!
I'm glad to see the progress you made. Funny thing, I was watching Mr Goodpliers tour of a 95 year old's place that will be auctioned. There was a 58 Pontiac there that was in far better condition then yours and all pieces were on the car. He says, oh most likely a parts car. Too much money to restore it, doesn't make sense blah blah blah. I'm glad not everyone thinks like that.
Looks like your doing an outstanding job. Just keep on keeping on my friend. The best thing that you have going for you is; your not afraid to give anything a try. All you can do is mess up. An if you do, then you just do it over an don't make the same mistake twice. Your doing a great job. When you get it done you will have an awesome ride an the history to go along with it. 😁👍👍
These cars were just so Amazing and True worls of Art and the American Dream ! You definately seem to have the bone in your teeth now.... keep pushing Brother ! What a Joy to see this Great Symbols of America still rolling down the Highway !
I am impressed with the way your getting it done! 3 or 4 donor cars not wasted! Painting the frame yourself. Reach behind you and give yourself a pat on the back! lol Are you going to have someone else paint the body?
@@JaceAllen13 Good luck! I think I would watch plenty of youtube videos on painting and then practice painting something else the same color of the car, like an old fridge or freezer? Or even spare body panels?
That Pontiac is gonna LOVE you. I just found you and subscribed. I'm a Pontiac guy , 65 Bonneville. I'm looking forward to watching your progress. You covered a lot of ground already !
Keep on keepin on! I am 8 yrs into my '48 Chevy Coupe project. So keep good notes as you dismantle. And get yourself some body hammers, etc. Those fenders are thick but they will want to return to the original shape...just don't heat them very much. Takes time. Watch Coldwar Motors Utube. He's very good panel pounder. Good luck
Wonderful to see all that you are doing. I had a 54 Star Chieftain coupe, all original and running. Stupidly I sold it. Original two tone yellow and salmon roof. Heaters under the seat and more. Wish I had it today. Keep up the good work. Looking forward to seeing how good it turns out. Kindig did one if you want to see what he did.
as a experienced car guy- love the old hardtops! the catalina was a top of line beauty- leather interior and in line 8- lil more fancy than the 51 Chevy hardtop belair. You are going to have more money in this car than it will be worth... but it isn't always about the dollars. it is about saving history and this car deserves a frame of resto. just see this project through to the end.... the easy part is tearing them apart- putting it back together is the slow-tedious-painstaking and expensive process that will test your resolve and pocket book to the limit. But in the end it will be a fun car to enjoy, there are not many of these hardtops left.GIT 'R" DONE
I remember Goodwin Pontiac in Grand Rapids. I worked in the body shop at the 'other' Pontiac dealer, Orson E Coe Pontiac-GMC on 28th Str. That's been a few years ago. When I was still in High School, my best friend had a 51 Pontiac for awhile. The valves were bad in it so if we were someplace & shut the motor off, we had to stay there until it cooled down good cause it wouldn't start hot.
en uruguay un tio de mi padre tubo uno muchos años el pontiac de horacio era un referente en mi familia de esto hace ya casi 50 años ,grato recuerdo ver este video
Reminiscing about my 1952; identical except for the chrome on the sides. Keep at it, those top-of-the-line GM cars from the 1950s tell more than the stories of their owners. It is a chronicling of an industry.

Great Work, you are well on the way to having a great car.
That Pontiac is gonna LOVE you. I just found you and subscribed. I'm a Pontiac guy , 65 Bonneville. I'm looking forward to watching your progress. You covered a lot of ground already !
Great car with an amazing story! Looks like you are doing an awesome job 👍 best to you and yours
Great video 📹 bro I like antique cars 🚗 Brooklyn is watching 👀 👌
Very cool that you are taking this on. Subbed!
as a experienced car guy- love the old hardtops! the catalina was a top of line beauty- leather interior and in line 8- lil more fancy than the 51 Chevy hardtop belair.
Nice done, Take your time you can learn a lot while doing this restoration. Move on!
You could not have picked a cooler car. This is really awesome. Earns the Groovedog Stamp of Approval.
Looks great! You're doing what I wish I could do. These things are hard to find around here. Keep up the good work!
Thanks Steve!
Very good job! Gratulation! Perfect!! ❤👍👌🥰☺️🤗
To quote Puddin', Your momma didn't raise no punk! You're not afraid. You shoot from the hip and dig right in!
My uncle had a 54 Pontiac 4 door sky blue color if I'm correct. I can't wait to see the rest of your restoration videos. 😊
Good on you for taking on such a big project, keep at it and the rewards will be huge.
Keep up the good work, your doing well! 👍
Love this project and keep us updated
Exelente trabajo! Espero por tu vídeo 3, abrazo desde Uruguay 🇺🇾

I'm from south west Michigan I'm proud of you
Reminiscing about my 1952; identical except for the chrome on the sides. Keep at it, those top-of-the-line GM cars from the 1950s tell more than the stories of their owners. It is a chronicling of an industry.
I can not wait to see how the car turns out.
You're doing fine on that undercarriage. Hell, you could paint a frame with a brush for all it matters.
Man I am getting ready to do a car myself
Keep it up looks good

Espectáculo de carro. Adoro estes monstros da estrada. De 1946 até aos 1960's. Lindos. Continua com o teu trabalho. Qualidade? É a que tens! Com gosto pelo trabalho e carro. Vais conseguir! Senão ficar cinco estrelas! Fica três ou quatro estrelas. Não interessa. É teu. E só tu é que tens de gostar. Mais ninguém!! Grande Abraço de Lisboa, Portugal, EU.
