This concerto is a rare gem. I played it for the first time as a 13 or possibly 14 y.o. kid but it is only now that I can appreciate it fully in this marvelous, ethereal rendition, thanks to Divino Arturo!
I so love the fact that Michelangeli played several works of Haydn :-) There are so many pianists that they never even studied one work of Haydn. That is not good, Haydn was such a great composer.
As a matter of fact, he played only two piano concertos, not much for a composer who wrote more than 50 piano sonatas... anyway, these two concertos are played superbly.
Avete Celentano, Bud Spencer e Terrence Hill = Mario Giroti, almeno ci fanno ridere.

This is HEAVENLY!! Actually the first piano concerto of Haydn i've ever heard, incredible as that may seem, lol!! At his best, as in this wonderful work, Haydn was right up there in the same league as Mozart - well, at least quite close!! Thanks for uploading this deliscious bonbon!!!
well not even close, but higher in terms of music-emotional expression...Everything you hear in his music appears later in Motzart and in Beethoven even more...Beethoven admired J.H. and devoted several works to him.

Please , can anybody tell me if this is the concerto no 4 HOB. XVIII/4 (1770) or the other one in G no 9 Hob. XVIII/9 (1767) There is some disorder in the classification . Thanks for your help . Maybe SCARTATUM is the most "inteilegent" in this case , I hope so .
"negative loaded energy" ?? Maestro Mombeek's goal is to make us understand the opposite: the Beauty of real Music! Do you call that "negative", too ?? His reference: real musical talent.
If they found a way to compress this as tablets, the entire sleeping pill industry would go out of business. Just had a super beauty sleep owing to this. Thanks a lot. PS i sleep better still to Eb-maj or a-minor pieces. Funny, i wonder why. Cheers, good morning.
Yes, I 'grew up' with this recording and many others, too. I never liked it, but now I dislike it even much more than when I was young. Regards from Belgium in autumn, Geert Dehoux, pianist.

blithering idiot ! i don`t need anything like a magic interpretation but music ! nothing less than sheer " cold " music . if you are in need of any schmaltzy tearjerker choose a different music-channel . embarking on michelangeli means straightforward abnegation of any sentimentality , yes even of any interpretation whatsoever . listening to michelangeli imparts the experience of a miracle : music by itself !

+Georg Andor its understandable though isn't it, when you could be studying rach or or liszt for 5 lifetimes

Ci mancano oggi Italiani così.Inutile negarlo.

A wonderful performance of a very beautiful concert. ABM often gives his piano a catchy harpsichord-like sonority. Great style.
Except for the modern piano, I would think that the good Papa himself is playing.
By the way, this concert is a masterwork.

I read that Glenn Gould said that Haydn composed better music for the piano than Mozart.
S. Richter said that too.
I do agree. Haydn genius !! But underrated .. unbelievable.

every opinion, even though stupid, deserves respect.
on the contrary : stupidity never deserves any respect whatsoever !!!
Does Michelangeli play his own cadenza in the first movement?
Lev Bulanov Same question.
no, Nino rota did
@@ptyxs no this cadenza was did by nino rota the famous composer
@@cardiochirurgiasiena2118 Thanks for the information.

Monumental playing, but perhaps a bit heavy handed Beethovian interpretation. I prefer the more Mozartian lightness of Pletnev. Great to have both.

Anyhow, in this recording there is NO magic, only like by a machine created notes.
